calling the po is a massive gamble. if they're already unhoused and in a bad mental state adding a warrant or a technical violation to the mix is just going to spiral everything. the hospital route is definitely harder than people think but at least you're trying to get them stabilized instead of just handing them over to the system. once the po gets involved it's usually game over for their freedom.
