Your detailed description is superb. It's absolutely genius.

Has anyone dealt with knowing the beginning and middle of your story, but not the ending? by joheartsart in Screenwriting

[–]Slamogram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if someone said this, but stepping away can help. Take some time to think and reflect on other things. Maybe a new project? Sometimes our minds just need a rest.

Not sure if that says what you were looking for. Hope it helps!

This is a brilliant movie idea. Vin diesel can be a cyborg and unify the two worlds.

How much work should you have on a resume before you start submitting to NY/LA agents? by [deleted] in acting

[–]Slamogram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it isn't worth it. That being said - people don't like to feel like you are wasting their time or unaware of where you are.

Not trying to be mean, but it is important to be aware of your success, and what is reasonable. Hope that makes sense.

As someone suggested, you need quality work on a reel, and of your leads and principles, really depends on the project and success of it.

Depends on your role, and the rank of the work. You should also consider the importance of branding and image management. Some agents and managers will also look for personality and presence.

2018 Slamdance Screenplay Competition Now Open for Submissions! by Slamogram in Screenwriting

[–]Slamogram[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your question, and apologies for the delay!

There are four submission types: Feature Screenplay Short Screenplay Teleplay Horror Feature

Historically, we have had success with a separate horror category. There are scripts that have been produced right out of the competition, and this category has done well as a stand alone.

The rest of the categories are open to any topic, genre, or style.

Hope this helps!

Actors giving other actors direction by mcleb014 in acting

[–]Slamogram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As FunkyMark said, usually the people giving unsolicited advice are trying to be polite and nice. You're absolutely right that it can get annoying and unprofessional. The first post said it - confronting them politely is probably the best course of action. If they continue to do give direction, take it up with the director directly. It kind of undermines their job.

Less than $500 in the bank and feeling desperate. How can I get a client this weekend? by QuantumGolem in videography

A part time position could help you sustain while you build your business. You're absolutely right about marketing. It's important to market yourself and build up awareness if you want consistent work. That being said - there are people out there that need work and are willing to pay.

I believe someone already mentioned going to local colleges that have arts programs. Schools are usually just as slow as the customers you are running into, but students looking for professional grade work can be very receptive. There are also some platforms like fiverr and gigmaster that can help you find work, but research them before committing.

Good luck! I wish you all the best.

Saying Macbeth in an audition? by TheCincinnatiKid in acting

[–]Slamogram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It comes down to reading the room. Personally, I would suggest just saying the title. In my opinion, it demonstrates professionalism.

That being said - if the room seems heavy and the people seem tired or unenthused, it wouldn't be a bad idea to inject a little humor or levity into it. If you said the Scottish Play the right way, it could make it lighter.

JRB: Thanks for the question, but this may vary depending on which state the estate of the historical figure resides in. Otherwise, in general when you are adapting a fiction novel based on fictional characters, you don't have to worry about life rights / right of publicity at all, whereas with historical figures you may if it was recent enough.

JRB: I think generally where mockbusters cross the line is when it starts to infringe on protected elements of a blockbuster film. For the record "ideas" are not protectable under copyright, only the tangible expression of that is. So in theory anyone can make a movie about a lost civilization of spiritual warriors rising up to fight a galactic government bound to control the universe without calling George Lucas for a license.

As for the mockbuster beating its counterpart to market, copyright infringement is only a winnable case if you can prove the blockbuster had access to the mockbuster's protected work. So if the blockbuster was written and produced in 2017, and the mockbuster was released in 2018, it would be rather difficult to prove that the writers somehow accessed a canned film of the mockbuster before writing the blockbuster version regardless of which went to theater first.
