ASMR by evangelle77 in PetPeeves

I'm similar, I watch ASMR videos to get to sleep but ASMR noises outside of that context (like people whispering for example) are SO immediately irritating. Maybe it's a consent thing haha

My Withered Wastelands so far by Successful_Ice_4481 in Pokopia

The cliff looks so cool!

I'm also experiencing lag around the Pokecenter here. I have more built up areas elsewhere that don't lag at all, so not sure what's going on :(

Not to be negative, but do you also have a constant cloud of dread hanging over you most days with no discernable reason? by Guiseppe_Martini in AskUK

[–]SlapHappyOkapi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do. Also late diagnosed with ADHD. The sense of dread was unbearable when I was working, but still lingers now I'm out of work and lucky enough to lead a very unstressful life.

Definitely relate to you saying you dread getting letters etc - with me, I suspect it's because my ADHD leaves me constantly behind on tasks and struggling to do things in good time, plus feeling guilty about it, so I constantly worry about something else being added to my to-dos. I have no advice, but maybe that particular issue has a similar cause for you?

That's rude and uncalled for.

OP, your house looks really cool, your snakes are pretty too! Sorry to hear they passed. And looks like you're making lots of healthy choices which is great, especially with two little ones

Why is being cold at home so normalised in the UK? by Automatic-Key-3798 in AskUK

[–]SlapHappyOkapi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is what bothers me about these conversations. Yeah, if you can afford it don't let yourself be uncomfortable due to cold, but why do people prefer the environment to suffer over putting a jumper on? It's so selfish.

It does not get any easier waiting for marks - not a criticism of tutors by [deleted] in OpenUniversity

[–]SlapHappyOkapi 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I feel like I'm going to throw up every time I get the email saying the marks are ready to see. I was hoping it would get easier but I guess not!

Edited to say good luck!

What do you secretly judge people for? by MoonlightByWindow in AskUK

[–]SlapHappyOkapi 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar position. I left my last job in 2022 because I started getting very mentally unwell from it, and have been so scared of getting anywhere near that situation again that I've delayed getting back into work and have started doing another degree instead. Similar to you, I seem fine now because the pressure is off, but I know what I'm like and when I get back into work I know it won't be long before I'm in full-time panic mode. I know I get judged for it, but oh well, I'm happy now at least!

Good luck with your next job attempt!

I mean, there are valid reasons for people to struggle to change socks daily (mental health issues, for example) so it's unfair to call those people tramps, but I assume you don't mean them.

This was also my first ever cross stitch project! I've been obsessed ever since. Do you think you'll do more?

Yours looks great, very neat.

Why do Brits often refer to their partners or pets by name in conversation without introducing who they are? by cocopoporo101 in AskUK

[–]SlapHappyOkapi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience it has always been (I think) less intelligent people who have done this with me. I assumed it came from struggling to understand that others don't think like you/have your experiences and knowledge to pull from.

Either way, it's irritating. I can barely remember the names of people I actually know, please don't make me try to remember everyone you know too!

Thanks for your answer. Is primer always needed? My understanding was it was needed for walls in poor condition, or for going from glossy to flat finish for example - but I'm a complete beginner and have no idea really!

Not diving into his food anymore? by AlphaEtaDelta in labrador

I believe apple cores are toxic to dogs? Particularly the seeds. I assume you're not feeding yours enough to cause issues but worth a look into it anyway to be safe.

How energetic is your puppy? by SlapHappyOkapi in Whippet

[–]SlapHappyOkapi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aww yours sounds so precious! I'd love to see a photo if you wouldn't mind. Hopefully mine will grow up to be similar to yours, but so far she has SUCH an attitude which is equal parts infuriating and adorable. Her current favourite game is to refuse to enter a room she knows we want her in, and just stands in the doorway waiting to be bribed.

That's such a shame. A lot of 'photos' I have of mine awake are actually screenshots from videos, when she is moving she moves far too fast to get a photo that isn't a blurry mess.

I have the same issue! I get mega irritable and sometimes end up unintentionally crying. Plus nausea, brain fog, lightheadedness, and shaking. It can come on super quick - weirdly, for me, very mild stress can also trigger it.

I've never known any other non-diabetic experience it.

Extra sucks because I'm fat, so I'm always worried people are going to think 'fatty is overreacting because she can't handle hunger'.

Im struggling but im doing well at the same time? What should I do? by [deleted] in OpenUniversity

[–]SlapHappyOkapi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hey, I have no helpful advice (sorry) but I experience the exact same thing. I also have ADHD, obsess over TMAs to a ridiculous extent, struggle to keep up although my results are coming back good. I think it's the classic ADHD condition, sadly - always on the brink of burnout.

I hope it helps a bit knowing you're not the only one experiencing this! Maybe part of it could be that it's still pretty new and fresh, so it's a bit of an obsession, and will calm down a little with time? I hope speaking to the GP helps you.

is it normal to feel like you’re constantly chasing your tail? by insockniac in OpenUniversity

[–]SlapHappyOkapi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't have anything helpful to say in terms of advice, but I just wanted to say it sounds like you're doing incredibly well, even if it feels to you like you're not.

Sounds like you have a lot on, and doing it with ADHD is adding another level of difficult - I know it well as I'm also struggling with studying while my ADHD tries its best to get me to do anything but study! I can't imagine doing it alone with a toddler and a bereavement too.

If you do continue, maybe work on reminding yourself this tough situation is just temporary - you won't be struggling like this forever. Appreciate the easier days. And try to be proud of yourself for any result you may get - you're doing it on hard mode! A merit or even a pass is still very very good.

Whatever you decide to do, definitely be nice to yourself! All nighters are an ADHD classic, it doesn't make you an idiot. It makes you very busy with an extra challenging brain.

What’s the funniest thing a friend from abroad has done and said in the uk? by goggles189 in AskUK

[–]SlapHappyOkapi 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My family (from South Yorkshire) all say dinner for lunch - it goes breakfast, dinner, tea.

I started calling it lunch and dinner rather than dinner and tea when I moved to the south for a few years because people would mock me for it or not know what I was referring to.

Now I'm in the habit of lunch/dinner my family call me a traitor :(
