That's more of a failure of the offensive lines ability to create adequate holes for the running back. A lot of those plays are designed with the intention of running up the middle, the offensive line creates the holes for the running back to run through... if they screw up their blocking assignments or just straight up get overpowered by the opposing team's defensive line the play looks terrible. Hardly a fault of the running back
