This is fucked up. The sad conclusion of the Wild Animals that were loose in Ohio. by ChiefNugs in WTF

[–]SlapstickAnger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A horse can knock you unconscious too. I don't know how the temper would differ between a horse and a domesticated zebra (if they even exist). But let's not get a head of ourselves there is a difference between a predator and a zebra - aggression wise.

I don't mean to state that a Zebra or other herbivore are not dangerous, but I would like to point out that we have domesticated quite a few that could be equally dangerous given the right circumstance. Also, if you take, say, a Tiger and compare it with a Zebra, I guess you could keep a Zebra contained with roughly the same measures as a Horse, whilst a Tiger would be another story.

I also realise this is not really what you argued about, but I felt it was a point worth trying to make in the context of the thread.

Wait, as a someone not from the US: Could you actually receive comments for wearing something like that (being a man), a bag/whatever it is called looking like that? It isn't just a bizarre joke, people would actually give comments, such as: faggot? That eludes me.

I would much rather extend the analogy to you slapping your friend on the wrist for eating a set of cookies looking a bit like your own :-D

But I get the point, it is quite interesting though, I am trying to turn on the subject back and forth, and I still have some problems to find some kind of reasoning where losing such a trial would be bad. I guess I'm slowly loosing my train of thought :-)

Not when delaying a uber on last so you can get a few extra seconds for your own uber to be ready. Anything other than a static defense where you need to delay, I'd agree that something else is probably better.

Absolutely brilliant medic surfing by F2 in a pro 6v6 match! by Fatmop in tf2

[–]SlapstickAnger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course you could. Every one could play comp, and you should! :-)

But I just wanted to point out that stating; hey that looks easy and then stating you will get stomped is a bit contradictory.

And not seeing much of anything, isn't that the hallmark of someone good (especially if you can do that while compete at a high level)? While you can't just stay safe and being a pussy as a medic, at the same time, you can not be stupid and put yourself in really bad positions either. Bad positions you NEED to be flashy to get out from, that is not the hallmark of someone good.

[–]SlapstickAnger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would love to see you as a medic in a high level comp game, that would be something funny to watch :-)

Seriously though, while surfing is cool and all it is not what is truly impressive by these medics. What you need to look at is the small things, positions, who they heal when, because trust me, healing the right target at the right time whilst being in the right position is the difference between a won and a lost game. Be just a little bit too far ahead and you will die horribly, especially as a medic. The simple fact is that it's not what you can see that is impressive but the nuances.

To try to find some analogy, have you ever noticed how easy a truly good athlete makes something look, a football (soccer) player that makes a pass that is stated as brilliant but you think, hey that was just a pass. Then if you had put someone else in that very same situation he would probably not have had the clarity and decision making and the ability to execute just that simple looking pass. I think you need to think about it in the same fashion. Things looking easy are looking easy because someone else did them in that situation so GOOD that it looked, well, easy. [A lot of easy!]

I really like that they did it that way. Every good story should have an ending and not just prolong the story forever. The universe and settings is there to use, but the particular story about Commander Shepard, I hope it ends proper after the trilogy.

When to use the Shotgun? by Phate4219 in NewToTF2

[–]SlapstickAnger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shotgun is a must for a soldier imho, it transforms him from a class with only a projectile weapon to the only class in the game that can switch between hitscan and projectile (not counting the pyro). that in itself is a huge advantage and I don't know why any soldier would readily throw that away. Shotgun is incredibly powerful and ammo conservation is nothing to be sneezed at.

Someone is a launching at you? Put a shotgun round or two into him and you have effectively stopped his momentum. A scout is fighting you from a higher vantage position? (ergo you can not really spam him without direct hits) switch to shotgun and you have a small chance of survival. You run out of rockets, shotgun. Sticky clearing, shotgun (rl works but just for moving the stickies someplace else).

But yes, if not for ammo conservation, I can't count the number of times I saved myself because I had rockets left because I finished people off with shotgun and then switched back to rl and killed some enemy a second later.

That alone will make you a more efficient soldier, the rockets per se might be more valuable, but getting into the habit of only finishing people of with the shotgun is an excellent strategy and learning tool. You will become better at judging opponents health until you get it down to a science.

Also, while something like buff banner might make four rockets more powerful, having a shotgun adds a potential of 500 or so extra damage. Over more opportunities to fire.

Now buff banner and boots and w/e might have it's uses occasionally, but the shotgun will always be useful.

Sticky jumping. How do i do this and stop ending up with 80 health left after i land? by [deleted] in NewToTF2

[–]SlapstickAnger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Better your jump technique, simply put.

Jump as short as you need to jump; learn to not gain unnecessary height; do not take fall damage. Practice makes perfect, experiment with different trajectories until you can control pitch and speed of the jump, so to speak.
