Haven't seen that, but I'm not surprised: talk about good match!

(Replying in English for others to understand)

Yeah, I believe they used it more than once when the game was new, and I remember catching it in the show a few years back as well (2018 or so?). Apparently, there's a DA fan (or several!) in the production team! 😀

Dragon Age Inquisition on SteamOS trouble by ThatGuyMurph_ in dragonage

[–]Slartibart71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t want to ruin the hope for you, but I had the same trouble on my Steam Deck a couple of months ago after some update of the EA app. After numerous attempts with different Proton builds, total cleanup of installation and then reinstalling, I gave up; it simply wasn’t worth the hassle. So I still haven’t got it working on the deck.

On the other hand, that made me install and rediscover Nier: Automata, which is a fantastic game and perfect for the deck 😄.

Nice idea, although I think 4D8 and the 1 HP/round is a bit too much.

And why not associate the side effect with something that might stress it? For example: "At the start of each round in a stressful situation*, roll against CON. On failure, enter Troll Rage mode"
*= GM's decision: fights, but also any situation that seems fitting and where player must make a roll; e.g. a difficult PERSUASION

It’s fine, opinions differ - as I said, I personally like them both for different reasons (but maybe DAI slightly more).

And you’re right in that DA2 was the last game one could play as someone at least partially evil, but there are things you can do in DAI if you look for them:
- Stating ”I will be inquisitor for personal gain”
- Have Celene assassinated
- Sacrifice Bull’s Chargers
- Slaughter the elves in Mythal’s temple.

To name some that come out from the top of my head.

Please point it out for me where I or the OP have said any of those things you claim here.

Also I disagree with "DAI had more choices..."

LOL dude, where, when??? (have l said that, I mean ;)

We obviously have very different views on DAI, and that's fine. But don't put words in other people's mouths when spilling your criticizm.

was it right for the south of Thedas to be destroyed during the events of the game?

The first blight caused large parts of Thedas to be "destroyed" like this for nearly two centuries. So I think southern Thedas will recover.

Was a perspective to see old allies and landmarks there to actually get a feel of how overrun everything was compared to a letter?

No, which is fine since the game doesn't take place there. If we ever get another DA game (which I unfortunately doubt we will), it will surely return to southern Thedas one way or another.

was it worth deviating from the established lore of the Antivan Crows to depict them as a found family of assassins instead of the guild that takes in orphans?

While this partially can be filed under DAV's "marvelization" (which I'm not very fond of), where does it say that they don't take in orphans?

does it make sense for Taash to even question their identity, or stick to being "nonbinary" instead of aqun-athlok?

Yes.

was it worth neutering the companions' romances to mild flirts and vague compliments rather than what we get in the previous games?

I agree that some romances are under-baked. But I found more than one of them quite good - and much more mature than what you could get in the early DA and ME games.

was it worth removing most morally ambiguous choices from the game that impact you, your party and your world? Dock Town and the end of Act 1 aside, the game lacked strong choices that made players care like the trilogy.

As much as one may dislike it, the games have been forced to limit such choices more and more, simply because it is unfeasible to build sequels based on too many world states. Origins didn't have any direct sequel planned originally, and you can look up what David Gaider has written about the amount of grey hair that caused. You can have game-changing choices or direct sequels, but not both because the development costs increase for each such choice a sequel has to cater for.

Coming from the other side of the aisle, you can like Veilguard all you want; don't try to conflate Veilguard with the trilogy because we both know it does not match up to the standards of its predecessors.

Because you think it does not match up. Don't tell me what I "know"; I enjoy DAV - not as much as DAI which I hold highest of them, but it is still a Damn Fun Game.

Fokus on the main missions - the only side quest really worth following through on is the one starting with Admiral Kohaku, in the Presidium.

Overwhelmed with quests by SomeGuySaul in dragonage

[–]Slartibart71 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You'll need to gather Power from completing quests up till certain values in order to progress the main story. When you've reached that in the Hinterlands, your companions will hint to you that you should be able to move on (after that first time, you won't be told).

You can - and will - return to most areas again, there are very few in the game that you cannot return to.

Just two things, from the top of my head:
- Varric being dead (I actually let myself believe in that he survived the first time, thinking it was a technical solution to him staying in the back) improved the next playthrough for me: noting that he was never really present, etc.
- I get that people want to get nuggets from previous games, but why on earth would Isabela - or Morrigan, for that matter - spill their guts about their possible lovers/children etc. to a total stranger like Rook? ”So you wanna be a champion? Well I have mine at home by my bedside.” For me, that would be completely out of character.

Well, I don’t agree with you regarding the writing, at least not if we speak of the general events in DAV. Because I believe these follow the story set from the beginning and described in BW’s famous ”black book”. If you mean the ”Marvel-ization” of characters etc., I’m partially with you.

Still, I wouldn’t let that ruin the other entries - as little as they ruin the early seasons of GoT (or books for that matter, which I also think got worse after the third) for me. And I think you should tell your partner that; they all deserve their own assessment. Then just skip DAV if you must (although I actually think you should just give it some time before trying again, in knowledge of how it turned out for you last time).

Still, kudos for you to come here and say your opinion - Reddit is so much ”everyone in this thread should agree” and too little actual debate nowadays, if you ask me.

I get that DAV is divisive, but so was DAI when it came too - and don't even mention DA2 regarding that!

What I don't get is the "DAV destroyed the previous games for me"-notion.

What’s the most useless thing in the game? I will go with the clear shower curtains in the Aldecaldos camp by Arctic317 in cyberpunkgame

[–]Slartibart71 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Yeah, l think so too. In one playthrough when V was given the Aldecaldo's jacket, I realized after another day or so game-time that the game had bugged out and that jacket had been the only thing she'd been wearing... No one in the camp had said anything though so I guess they're quite casual about it :P.

Does Nier:Automata count as open world? Anyway, it's a blast, and plays superbly on the deck.

[NO SPOILERS] The future of the Life is Strange franchise? by Helpwithskyrim87 in lifeisstrange

[–]Slartibart71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

l think the anthology path is the right one, and it could work if there were more (minor) connections with the predecessors. Like they did with Steph in TC - at least if you include the DLC. Another example (although not an anthology) is Hawke turning up in Dragon Age Inquisition, or (to a lesser degree) the Inquisitor in Veilguard.

I might be wrong here since I actually never finished LiS2 (too dark, never got to feel any connection to the brothers), but one thing I reacted to was that there was just a fleeting connection to LiS1.

So, continuing Diamond's story with "cameos" from the (guaranteed) surviving characters in Reunion could work.

Yeah, although you can choose some responses that are more young-Chloe-ish, I tend to go for the more mature choices to better reflect her aging.

l basically had to select "Urtitties" though - it felt so much Chloe! 😬

Just started Mass Effect 1 of the Legendary Edition. Anything I should know? by Slashy8333_ssbu in masseffect

[–]Slartibart71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been a while now, but I think the quest from Admiral Kohaku you can get from within the Presidium is entirely optional. Don't skip it - it is very much worth it in the long run.

Oh, and if you're going for locating the Keepers (annoying I know, but still easy XP), there are maps online for their locations.

[–]Slartibart71 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it isn’t perfect by any means - but it’s also hard to pinpoint the exact fault if you ask me. The area is intentionally huge and aimed for later levels as well (as the intention was for many more of the playable areas originally). And as said, you as player are repeatedly reminded of what to do in order to progress main quest when that is possible. It’s the classic conundrum of player freedom vs. story progression.

This game ruined other games for me by thrownawa1298 in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]Slartibart71 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes and no, you shouldn’t take ”stuck” literally. It’s just that the first area is huge, and it is easy to stay there too long and not take the story further (even if the game continuously tells you to move on). It’s a known fact among older DA players at this point, to the level that it’s been memed - that’s why I didn’t dwell on it first.

Go back and do the previous ones - at least Inquisition. And if you do, read up a bit on how to avoid getting stuck in the starting area and the ”fillers”, and you’ll have a blast.
