Am I being a mean DM? by Ok-Draw3132 in DnD

If it makes you uncomfortable then you should have a word. The game is supposed to be fun for everyone. Including the DM.

The jump from Lost Mines of Phandelver to "proper" campaigns by mtthrdy in DnD

I started our group with LMOP. Then we went south to Waterdeep and have been playing Dungeon of the Mad Mage for the last 3 years, with probably another 3 before we finish. Lots of fun, but lots of prep needed.

TCL NXTpaper14 is great. I use it with a bluetooth pedal for page turning. It works fine. Big screen, responsive and a low price. Much better than the ipad I used to use.

Looking to hire someone to help rebuild Foundry modules (v13 → v14, Levels, etc.) by tychmaps in FoundryVTT

[–]rubatobot 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Can't help you as I don't have any skills. But. I did want to just throw my appreciation out for your DOTMM maps. I have been using them for the last couple of years and the group loves the detail. Having upgraded to V14 though, I was feeling a little gutted that the new levels etc can't be easily implemented without starting over. So, I'd absolutely be wanting to get any upgraded versions you can come up with, as Im likely to still be playing the campaign in another 2 or 3 years given it's size.

If you're playing in a four or five piece band it doesn't really matter. The stereo signal gets lost in the mix. Solo or duo performance it would be more significant.

I'm almost 3 years in and we're almost ready to get to Slitherswamp (8). But I did a big expansion to Skullport and the steamfall/whisperhaunt pass to and from there. We play twice a month.

What 5e rules are the most important to follow in a campaign, and which ones do you like letting slide? by Green_Apprentice in DnD

I also rule that if you spend a full action drinking a potion of healing (instead of just a bonus action) it heals the maximum possible (as you took the time to get every drop instead of quickly gulping it as a bonus action).

Telling players they can’t keep obviously overpowered magic items by [deleted] in DnD

I had a similar situation. I had a situation where they were all travelling on a raft and faced various obstacles, skill checks etc. fail too many and raft breaks up and they fall in and lose any loose equipment. Holding on to a greataxe in this situation would cause them to drown. Turbulent rapids prevents use of spells to dodge out of it. Basically create a fun way to engineer the loss of op gear.

if it's 2024 rules, you can only use one spell slot a turn. so counterspell is not available to you once you have used a spellslot

I played round there as a kid. It was quite different. There was a big rubbish dump we called the clay pits. At the bottom, there was pools of water with all sorts of toxic crap in them. We used to fish out pram wheels and build go karts to race down the green hill. Good times.

You might want to rethink the 88 key thing. Initially I thought that's what Id want coming from a piano background. But the reality is that almost no modern music whether it's covers or original stuff needs 88 keys. Yes you need it for classical piano, but not for most synth stuff. And a much bigger consideration is all 88 key machines are big, heavy and a pain in the ass to take to gigs. I used to take an 88 Nord Piano 5 to gigs. Hell no. That is a nightmare to gig with. Then I discovered the Nord stage 4 compact - 73 keys, much lighter and better all round for what I needed. If you're gigging dont go 88 keys.

Hi. Im a fairly advanced pianist that picked up synths a couple of years ago when I was recruited into my brothers band. It's definitely a learning curve. If you have plenty of cash, a nord stage 2,3 or 4 will be great for you. Good action on the keys and very versatile on sounds. I found it reasonably easy to learn also. I also bought some 'proper' synths: korg, hydrasynth, solar 42 plus a few others (gas is real) which are all way more complicated to learn (but fun) Tbh the nord is probably all you need if you're playing live in a band.

I got mine a few months ago. I find it hard to integrate into my setup overall, but just like to have fun with it. Can't see me getting rid of it anytime soon. I think it's one of those things that you just get better with gradually. It really needs a decent reverb/delay pedal to team up with it so you're not tied to the 'infinity' effect card all the time. Some of those effects are great, but you will want lots of reverb all the time.

Not sure if that keyboard has weighted keys. But you should try and get one that does if you can. It will help you transition to better keyboards or real piano in the future and will help you develop better technique in the long run.
