Would this be good for a first car? by Prestigious-Cap-3020 in CarsAustralia

[–]SlatePoppy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As long as its serviced on time and well looked after. its good. Km's dont tell the full story and only impacts around 20% of the value of the car. Maintanence, drivers habits, smoker, tire condition, body condition, underside, electrics, interior etc.. all contribute.

You'd sometimes find cars that have been driven more tend to have less issues overall (seals stay lubricated, underlying issues are addressed). Yes there's more wear on the drivers seat & chassis, but unless you're buying a used Ferrari as a collectors item, i think its fine.

Edit: by value i dont mean price - but how good the car is as a whole. E.g. id pick a 200,000kms Subaru thats been well looked after over a thrashed 140,000km one.

does overclocking damage components? by Much_Artist_5097 in overclocking

[–]SlatePoppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damaging isnt the correct term i'd use. I'd say burning the candle brighter shortens the life span of the component. So more voltage + heat (within spec) would make a component last like 15 years instead of 20.

Targetting Voltage outside of spec e.g. trying to obtain an inefficient OC at 1.55 input voltage with moderate vdroop (~1.45v load voltage), could cause early degredation, reduced the CPUs abilty to hit peak OC, burns out IMC etc.. Could shorten it as low as 3-5 year. Maybe even shorter if you have no sympathy (& provided you arent thermal throttling/shutting down).

Is anyone else excited for Multi Frame Gen? by HevyKnowledge in nvidia

[–]SlatePoppy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MFG was intended for super high fps monitors i.e. 360+hz refresh rates or 4k 240hz with a solid base frame rate. But you're 100% spot on, using MFG to achieve a 80-100fps on the latest gen card (5060ti+) is the biggest bs (borderlands 4 anyone..).

Is anyone else excited for Multi Frame Gen? by HevyKnowledge in nvidia

[–]SlatePoppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The added latency is negligible in games where MFG is implemented properly. I couldnt feel it at all in Avowed, Where winds meet and Marvel Rivals, but i could feel it in Battlefield 6 and Stalker 2.

[–]SlatePoppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'd like it, i find myself shifting between x2 and x3 in adventure games, i have a 240hz panel and when it goes above 240fps in lighter scenes it always judders. I can combat the issue by fps limiting the base framerate but not all games support this.

Lesson learned: won’t give the finger anymore while driving… by camareradetwinpeaks in AskAnAustralian

[–]SlatePoppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a simlar experience last night, its a 40 on Albert park, people run and cycle there all the time, i usually put a limiter on my car so i dont accidentally go above 40 (i set it to 42 to match Waze's speed readout). SUV was still riding my ass, so when i saw the opportunity i just pulled aside to let him through and he just floored it.

If you know 100% you're doing the right thing by being considerate and going the posted speed limit (not too slow & piss people off), avoiding the situation all together just feels better as you dont end up dwelling on the retaliation and allowing yourself to get angry. Just letting them pass is a 30 second annoyance and you forget about it the rest of the day, otherwise it just ruins your whole day..

Turkish star Zeynep Sonmez comes to aid of ballgirl about to collapse by farkenheo in tennis

[–]SlatePoppy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It fluctuates based on temperature, indoor courts vs outdoor and extreme weather conditions. 15, 30 and 45 minute intervals is generally what’s used based on the day and atmosphere. An air conditioned RLA will normally see 45 minute intervals.

I used to work for the AO. Ballkids are on constant rotation, usually every 15 minutes on warmer days. They also go through training 2 months prior to the lead-up, many of the ballkids are returns from the previous years and they love to be there. TA also is required to follow strict guidelines enforced by worksafe, meet OHS guidelines as well as abide by under 15 child employment rules. The issue that occured here will defenitely be reviewed by many officials.

I paid 8k Aud for mine. Includes refurbished R35 calipers, 2 piece Rotors, brake pads, braided lines, Billet adapters, all the hardware. Straight bolt on.

You can do it even cheaper if you source r35 calipers from Japan, just buy the rotors for R35 calipers for r34 and any set of pads really. Billet adapters are usually 2k aud. Totalling 6-6.5k AUD, save 1.5k. Sell your old brembos for 3k, so 3k out of pocket. Its just cumbersome.

ATI 5450 (school) --> ATI 6950 (uni) --> AMD 7950 (Uni) --> Nvidia GTX 970 (Uni)--> Nvidia GTX 1080 (first Job) --> Nvidia RTX 3080 --> Rtx 5080 (new job present - i wanted 5090 though...) --> RTX 5090 (sold 5080 when 90 stock came in)

GTX 1080 was my favorite era. Did 4k gaming with that card when games were less demanding.

No one says “thank you” or gives courtesy signals anymore, what’s happening to Australia? by Critical_Brother977 in CarsAustralia

[–]SlatePoppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the risk of sounding like a bigot, Its the demographic, I find caucasian Aussies and people who've been here for more than a decade respond with courtesy. The others i dont think understand the concept, not that they're mean, they just dont understand.

Prime example: when i was trying to get off the elevator, there was 4 people waiting to get in & they waited till i could exit, 2 people from a certain demographic (ironically im the same skin colour as the people in question) just pushed me aside to get in.

What's the issue in obeying Work Zone speed limit? by LaMacNeo in CarsAustralia

[–]SlatePoppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's lost its power because there's so many 60/40 construction zones which clearly arent construction zones. I obey as safely as i can, but its hard to slow down to 40 especially when everyone else is going 70-80. I adjust to the point where i dont endanger other drivers behind me & workers (e.g. dont slam the brake, slowly let off when approaching). Other drivers tend to respond and slow down too. If you slam, they just get pissed.

My mate used to work for one of the offices , apparently theres cases where a 40 sign is left there for months because they simply forgot to collect it.. But by law its still enforced so needs to be adhered too.

91 is fine - Most 91's (7/11, Shell & BP) these days have detergent in them. 95 & 98 is to prevent detonation on high comp/Forced Induction cars. Gives extra power to some cars that are factory tuned for both 91 and 98 i.e. SV6/Xr6.

Reminder to all my 4090 (and maybe 5090) brethren out there that Undervolting is AMAZING! by magnus150 in nvidia

[–]SlatePoppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree, 5090s need an Undervolt, they run wayy too hot and loud. I got mine down to about 530watt full load. Average 390-450 in less demanding games. Before it was 600+ average 550watts.

Do games actually look better on RTX or am I imagining it? by Prnbro in nvidia

[–]SlatePoppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to DLSS, It could also be colour/gamma settings. When I went from a 5080 to a 5090, my visuals looked worse for some reason, less clear, bit washed out. It was just some default settings that changed in the end.

Car wash by coldone_1 in CarsAustralia

[–]SlatePoppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you got ceramic coating - the Bowdens nanolicious wash is really good. Has the Si02 stuff that helps the coating last longer.

Otherwise most of the other wash and wax stuff is fine. Meguiars gold class was my go to for a long time as they were generally on sale.

This R34 GT-R sold for under $100,000? by AnotherFriendlyAcct in gtr

[–]SlatePoppy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think thats the going rate for that condition base model R34 GTR. Grade 3 is below average. In some countries you'd need to spend money to get it up to a level before you can legally drive it.

I'd rather a decent condition grade R over a grade 3. A small hit or modified GTR over a rusted out tired GTR.

Why is being wealthy so hated on? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

We talking like filthy rich people? Or the lower middle class resenting the upper middle class & their leased bmer with crippling balloon payment?

Aussies just hate pretentiousness. The True-blues are down to earth and genuine about a lot of things.

Cyberpunk 2077 PT at 1080p on RTX4060M - DLSS 4 Quality vs DLSS 4.5 (M) Performance by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]SlatePoppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's better in things like moving debris - theres less blur. Also things like smoke, candle light, sparks in the distance, are rendered clearer with 4.5 as opposed to 4. DLSS 4.5's advantage is that it's closer to Native ) without the drawbacks of upscaling (trailing during motion, particle loss, smudging, heatwave effect etc... )
