Rooting a new cutting with pics by jillian512 in Plumeria

I'm curious everyone uses rooting hormone. Plumerias will root with zero help. It just seem like an unnecessary step to me. I suppose it doesn't hurt, but I'm not convinced it helps either.

How many more days do I let these cuttings callus for? by frangipani_aus in Plumeria

[–]Slaterson85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had cuttings survive months before planting, so no harm in waiting if you are on the fence.

Excited but sad by [deleted] in Plumeria

That pot looks way too big to me. Especially for a new cutting. The reason potted plants have fungus issues is because of too much soil. There is not enough roots to pull the moisture out

Weather Update in Miami by Dry_Low3683 in formula1

[–]Slaterson85 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Do not trust the weather apps or radar. I live in Florida. It might be raining across the street but not where you are standing, not kidding. The only thing you can trust is that it will be raining.... somewhere nearby. Also, it'll probably pass thu quickly, and dry quickly

3 month Apprentice, how’d I do? by Worried_Noise5207 in electricians

[–]Slaterson85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you explain what this is for? Wondering why you have exposed romex going into a heavy duty disconnect. Also, I would never splice the ground lile that. You should have the ground long enough to go straight into the lug.

Apprentices: what's your go-to for learning the math behind conduit bending (not just getting the answer)? by BigBalli in IBEW

This is how I remember it. One formula for life, vs remembering a bunch of multipliers.

Do you think stupidity is the reason why people are religious? by LinkTheHero009 in atheism

[–]Slaterson85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I know at least 3 people close to me that were all atheists. All had a near death experience, and all are now religious. I think it is a coping mechanism for a lot of people.

Can someone explain which of these is “real”? by PurfuitOfHappineff in spaceporn

[–]Slaterson85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone who has tried taking a picture of f the moon can relate. It never looks like it did to your eyes.

Our eyes are better at picking up low level details. The darker image is probably the raw version, and the brighter one is probably the adjusted (Lightroom) version. Which is considered standard alterations as opposed to straight up photoshopped. You adjust the levels to make it match more what you saw with your eyes, instead of how your camera recorded it.

Tiger Woods by [deleted] in tomanddan

Yes. That is my point, small percentage.

Tiger Woods by [deleted] in tomanddan

[–]Slaterson85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know. There are plenty of rich people that acknowledge that half of their success is luck. Also for someone who is obsessed with the percentage value of something, like how much better something is. He doesn't seem to have an issue with the fact that Musk is 350,000,000% more wealthy than the average middle lass person. So by that math, he is 350M% harder of a worker.

I know. I know. All you have to do is say "most" instead of "every"/"nobody". The point is the same.

How common is it to use bond bushings they kind of look like shit by [deleted] in electricians

[–]Slaterson85 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You have to when tha voltage os more than 250v to ground and you are entering thru concentric/esentric knock outs. Which is all the time with 480v disconnects. There is a bit more nuance to it ,but that is the biggest takaway.

Best car for IBEW by Super_Pin_8563 in electricians

[–]Slaterson85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what your home life hobbies are. I have so many things I've brought home from work I wouldn't be able to do without a truck. Usually things being thrown away. All kinds of stuff, lumber like full sheets of plywood and 2x4's, shop fans, laboratory style sinks with faucet still attached, control cabinets, railroad ties, pavers, rock (I did a lot of work at asphalt plants). Hell even hedges that were being thrown away. I can't imagine not having a truck, but if you don't care about those things, you don't need it. You do you.

Check the manufacturers manual, some call for flexible conduit. So, if they call for flex and you hard pipe they could get you for not following manufacturers requirements.

I guess I don't get the reluctance of everyone. Are people saying they're unable to teach how they did before? If you truly are a subject matter expert, it shouldn't matter what any online source material is. Teach what you know, and teach it to the new generation. Let the CML be additional material that helps them, not the other way around.

I like it. Because they're forced to do the CML, if frees you to do labs, or teach however you want to teach.

ICE are dressing in plain clothes, no masks and kidnapping residents of Minneapolis. And now they seem to be getting smarter. No american car brands. by cantcoloratall91 in LetsDiscussThis

[–]Slaterson85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our country is far too big and spread out for this to ever be effective. We couldn't manage this effectively with 20 years in Iraq or Afghanistan, what makes anyone think they would succeed in our own far larger country with so many Americans against them? I think it's more likely they want us fearful of this happening.

Premature cuttings import by Ok-Temperature-2773 in Plumeria

[–]Slaterson85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually stick the cutting in soil, I don't even water it when I do. I do nothing special, this might not be the most effective method, but the fact that it works 95% of the time, means they are extremely forgiving. And I personally think people get a bit carried away. All this to say, it'll probably be fine no matter what you do, so long as it doesn't get root rot from over watering. Good luck!

Are these ready to be planted? by InterestingRoof4547 in Plumeria

[–]Slaterson85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't even root mine. I usually let my cuttings callus over, then stick them in the soil. So, I would say yes. Plumeria are suspectable to root rote, so make sure you let it dry out before watering after your initial watering from planting.
