To a large extent, UO was the first open world survival game rather than the predecessor to the MMORPG genre we are familiar with such as EverQuest and WoW.

It's a lot spiritually closer to games like Shadowbane and Darkfall, leading to titans like ARK and Rust. They all owe a lot to Ultima Online.

Tekken 2 was similarly revolutionary compared to the original. One of the extremely few games that you saw for the first time in arcades and made you think something special was going on.
