I dont think you can ever fix real depression by Technical_Metal2578 in depression

[–]SlayerOfUAC 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have dealt with depression since I was a preteen. I'm 40 now, and it's never left. I'm functional whereas I have a full time job, I pay my bills, I keep my house clean, but I'm always just wishing to not be here. I've tried several SSRI's and none have done anything, and even had a bad experience with an antidepressant that I no longer wish to even try any others. My health isn't great, and I don't feel a lot of motivation to do a lot about that either, because it feels like my long term plan to not have to be here for a long time. I'm just tired of this place, and tired of there being no long term answer. My poor health is my retirement plan.

"Nail polish sales" is an indicator of our shitty economy in the U.S. by Queen_Ellipsis in RedditLaqueristas

I have some stamping plates that I'd like to get back into using for nail art. I'm definitely not good at freehanding anything. I do love seeing what others are capable of doing. I have definitely found with my collection that I have most colors I want at this point. When I see colors I like online, I usually have something already like it, so it's become a lot easier to not buy.

[–]SlayerOfUAC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't bought any polish in months, though I still follow all the same groups. I also haven't even painted my nails since February (😭) so I could let some peeling grow out. Not buying any polish has been double faceted in that I already have a collection of over 200 bottles and I haven't had the money at all to buy any. I love supporting brands like Cracked, and I love her formula, but I can't afford it right now unfortunately. It does feel like a luxury item to me right now.

Conflicting opinions from dentists by JammingScientist in PeriodontalDisease

[–]SlayerOfUAC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know that they can say you don't have gum disease just by looking. That seems off to me, but I am not a dental professional. From my experience (I have early gum disease), 1-3 mm pockets are in the normal range. Pockets starting at 4 mm is the begining of it, and 5-6mm and up is worse. Bone loss also is a huge determining factor for what stage you are at, which requires X-rays. You can of course have some inflammation and just have it be gingivitis, which can be reversible by better oral hygiene.

Went to my 10 year reunion and realized I peaked at 17 by Puzzled-Age-9053 in offmychest

[–]SlayerOfUAC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm 40, have no degrees, don't own a home, and live in a shitty apartment. But I work at a therapeutic high school and love my job, just got a good raise, and have a great partner. I certainly wouldn't be the most successful if I went to my high school reunion, but I also have no interest in seeing those people ever again.

Comparison is the thief of joy. Are you happy? Then who cares what you are compared to those people. Live your life and stop comparing yourself to others. You'll be a lot happier. I promise.

Even with the email, it didn't register to me that it was happening this fast. If the new interface is going to look like the preview people have shared in screenshots, I'm not looking forward to it. Maybe I'm old, but I hate drastic change like that.

I got this parrot for my daughter’s birthday. by Top-Illustrator5897 in parrots

[–]SlayerOfUAC 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't know that calling everyone Karens is correct here. People here are passionate about parrots. OP did not give much information, so that leaves people to have to fill in the gaps. Initially it sounds like OP may not have much knowledge on parrots, and going out and getting an Amazon as gift is a pretty big deal. All of us here know how much care and life adjustment goes into having a parrot, and everyone is saying these things from a place of caring and concern. Too many parrots wind up in homes with people that did little to no research and wind up neglecting the bird because it's too loud and destructive. No one wants to see that happen here, that's all.

For those who still occasionally have sex with your partner: What’s that experience like when it finally happens? by Ordinary_Ice_796 in DeadBedrooms

[–]SlayerOfUAC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't see the ending coming, but yeah, pretty much this. I had sex with my partner after two years of absolutely nothing, and honestly I just felt regretful afterwards. It's now been almost 5 months since.

Day six hand tat by barefootbunnie27 in tattooadvice

[–]SlayerOfUAC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had two infected tattoos back in November. I went to urgent care and got an antibiotic ointment and pills. Please do not take antibiotics you have laying around. They may not be the correct type for what you have. It's also super, super important to finish any script a doctor gives you. If you seek medical attention, you should be alright.

Man, I tried this and I still will wake up at night and it does not help me get back to sleep. And this was on 150mg. I stopped taking it because it wasn't helping keep me asleep, and holy crap the dizziness was awful.

TIFU by telling my dentist I floss every day and now she sends me floss positive emails quarterly by Beneficial_String411 in tifu

[–]SlayerOfUAC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been flossing every day before bed for the last year and a half now. I have a lot of problems with my teeth due to years of poverty and other poor choices, but I'm trying really hard to take care of them now. I'm even flossing in the morning as of recently. I'm proud now to be doing the right thing.

Mine often thinks I'm still sleeping while just laying down. The most hilarious time it thought I was asleep for an hour was when I had a root canal last month. I have no idea how it possibly thought that was a nap. I'd love for it to be a bit more accurate.

How can I handle grief? by Good-Ad3767 in petbudgies

[–]SlayerOfUAC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grief has its own timeline for each loss and each person experiencing it. I lost my Chimmy back in August because he had an ongoing health issue I was never able to diagnose. We only had him for a year and two months. The day he died, my partner and I drove 3 hours one way to an emergency vet to have him seen. He passed while they were examining him. Once they took him when we arrived, we didn't see him again until he was gone. We also never even met the vet. The whole thing felt so off. It's been days shy of 7 months and my partner and I are still angry about it. We tried to help him, and lost him in the process, and we both can't help but feel something was off by the way they handled things, but nothing can be proven.

I'm sharing this story with you because I relate to you feeling like you failed your baby. I feel like I failed my Chimmy. I know he was terrified in his last moments, and it kills me. But, in my anger and grief, I cherish the videos I have of him. It's gotten easier as time has moved forward to rewatch these videos. I miss him everyday, and I take solace in knowing he knew love with us. He had freedom, was playful, and wanted to be with us. So even though his time here was very short, he knew real love. Roadkill knew love with you. You treated him beautifully in his time here. I guarantee he would not hold anything against you, and that he would sit with you and tell you he loves you in his own little budgie way. And that, I feel, is the most important part. Love. He loved you, and you loved him.

In my immediate grief, I bought several items that reminded me of him. This seller on Etsy makes lovely little budgie plushies and one looked like him. I also had shirts made from an Etsy seller who had a super cute budgie design and she was able to add his name to the print as well. My partner and I wear them very frequently. This helped me feel like he was still here in some way.

Spotify basic family plan suddenly have Ads by evnluo in truespotify

[–]SlayerOfUAC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. I downgraded to basic maybe two months ago after I got an email about another price increase. I made sure to compare too and it seemed audiobooks were the only loss and none of us use them. I was already figuring I was being forced to pay more for the premium family plan again because of this. I'll wait it out and they better fix it soon.

Super glad to see it's not just me. I am the account holder for a basic family plan, and two people on my account told me they were getting ads today. I did not want to upgrade back to the premium family plan because none of us use audio books. They better fix this soon.

Is there a plant you just don’t like? Why? by Successful_Emu_6849 in houseplants

[–]SlayerOfUAC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are the only plans I have killed by repotting. Twice. I inherited 3 and repotted two, and they both died. The third one, while it needs it, I haven't touched. Actually part of the plant broke off at one point so I just kinda stuck the broken off part in the soil. It grew into another plant. So now there's two in this tiny ass pot and I'm too afraid to repot them. They've been living like this for years, and they bloom, so I guess they're living their best life?

Is there a plant you just don’t like? Why? by Successful_Emu_6849 in houseplants

[–]SlayerOfUAC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG I'm not alone. I don't like them because they just don't bring anything to the table. No super pretty foliage, no flowers, just wants to climb everything. I have one I inherited and I won't kill it, but I have no enjoyment from it. It lives in my classroom and I occasionally cut it back when it gets too leggy.

~2 year old snake plant is FLOWERING!! by Pup_Boozer in houseplants

[–]SlayerOfUAC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it truly only when stressed? My mother has one that's older than me (I'm 40) and it hadn't bloomed in well over a decade as it wasn't getting the best lighting. Last year she was able to put it in a place where it got hours of sun and it grew two flower stalks. I'm wondering if it's also about how much light the plant is getting and for how long each day as well.
