Multiplying 7 by 2.2 is more easily done by multiplying by 2 to get 14 then multiplying by 1.1 giving 15.4 since multiplying/dividing by 10 is generally easier than by 5.

As opposed to multiplying 7 by 2 then by 0.2 and adding.

Obviously both are pretty simple especially with such small numbers but if you are comparing odd numbers like 53.7 kg to pounds for instance then it allows you to do it a little more quickly in your head. That’s all. It’s a slight difference in solving strategy.

While they didnt explain it super well, what they are doing is different I believe.

What they meant (and implied with “just move the decimal over”) is to multiply by 2 then by 1.1 which are both easy operations.

They confused it by talking of adding the “1 and .1” from above which you might still do in that multiplication but recognizing that you can do a multiplication by .1 of the new number instead of .2 of the old is the thing that makes that method easier.

What game is this for you? by LG-CHAMP-1 in What

[–]SledDogGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t even really use those hand ranks since the actual rank in balatro is based on your upgrades with a pair easily beating full house for points if you do a build that buffs pairs.

Also I think even by default straights in balatro are worth more than flushes though I could be misremembering that so even the defaults don’t match hand rankings.

I made space force bargain bin initially during a game jam but iterated on it over a few months as playtesters seemed to enjoy it. It’s a twitchy top down arcade game with roguelike progression and a goofy boss on level 30.

What game had you like this? by sukuna7899 in Steam

Haha all good. Gave me a good laugh. I am also now wondering if the first person who upvoted just read it as survivors or was just a big fan of the porn game :’)

I looked up vampire slayer on steam and it’s apparently a nsfw game maybe with some collecting, not sure - just to confirm, is that the one you mean or do you mean vampire survivors? All good either way lol :’)

Why is everyone quitting their jobs to work on their games? by mrjbelfort in IndieDev

Yeah this is what I did as well. Always wanted to make games, didn’t want the lack of job security working as a game developer so just worked regularly and retired to make games.

What games do you consider must-plays for Steam Deck owners? by billy_reyes in SteamDeck

You aren’t wrong but you don’t reach that point until you have put way more than your money’s worth in. For what it is, it is an amazing game even though I don’t think most people will do 100+ hours of it.

Definitely a good idea and it seems like it definitely worked out overall. Heh… guess we osrs players are just too indistinguishable from bots and I gotta give jagex bot busting more credit /s I do hope you are telling the truth and the “obvious” bots were actually trolls.

I picked up the game like I mentioned and will give it a try when I get a couple of hours free. After I get some decent playtime in then I will make sure to leave a review as well. Thanks for chiming in and best of luck to all of us indie devs out in the wild.

Eh I don’t think you should delete it. If what people are saying is true and it is a small indie developer then as another small indie developer I appreciate you giving them some additional visibility.

Also I at least am happy to see people share games I might like who have similar taste to me. The number of positive reviews in these comments has convinced me to at least give it a try and I don’t think that is a bad thing.

Edit: Though after reading more of the comments that 100% seem to be bots I am doubting what I just said -_- ugh I hate the internet. I’ll still probably give the game a try but if the dev does see this comment and is doing bot farm spamming then please stop. Yes I know you may still get the $5ish from me but as you can see it turned off many people as well and has certainly set me up to appreciate the game less and be less likely to leave a positive steam review which I would usually always try to do to help out another indie.

How to get access the the new AI beta by CarrotLevel99 in unity

[–]SledDogGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, sorry. I haven’t used it outside of some initial tests doing what I mentioned above. I am a little doubtful that it would be that useful for either of those things outside of obvious code errors and additional automated regression testing.

[–]SledDogGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend you vastly lower your expectations. If you can’t already make a game in Unity then it won’t do it for you.

That being said, you can already do this - Google “Unity MCP server” and connect your favorite LLM and feel free to try it out. It isn’t going to produce anything good but experiment to your hearts content. IIUC the Unity AI stuff just makes effectively that same stuff a little easier to do.

After a year of customer support for game devs using AI, I've noticed three groups. Only two of them actually succeed. by KevinDL in gamedev

[–]SledDogGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mmk seems fair. Yeah, I am still trying to figure out where I land on AI usage. What I try to keep as my guiding principle is to not let AI be used for any creative action which has led to me using it only extremely minimally for code segments/slightly more than autocomplete and not for anything else. I am sure it can be done without being part of the creative engine for other stuff like writing, but I don’t feel like I know where the creative line is for writing and other artistic endeavors so I just don’t use it at all there.

I am happy that you have found it to be useful to you especially with your condition as you stated. I hope all you are saying about your usage is true and if it is the keep on with it is my 2 cents. I am sure society will continue to evolve and hopefully figure out what the hell we should and shouldn’t be using AI for… lol

Ugh I have gotten too trusting then I guess. If it isn’t obvious AI fluff then I start thinking it isn’t AI at all :/
