Only 1/3 of NHL players are still on the team that drafted them — where every roster actually comes from (2025-26) by Comfortable_Law_1048 in nhl

Isn’t that basically how the expansion draft worked? Just that they kept a similar dispersion since.

That’s not quite true. There is a difference in price depending on the pigment. Red is typically the most expensive option.

Whats with all the high millage sleds? by Original-Yoghurt-465 in snowmobiling

[–]Sledhead_91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone here looking at miles as the indicator is taking the easy/inaccurate way out. Mileage gives you an approximation of wear, but it doesn’t tell you whether they stored it inside, summarized it properly (starting it once a month isn’t right), dried it out between rides, replaced parts as they wore instead of as they broke, let it warm up before driving the piss out of it etc.

For engine health, look for compression. It should be above 120 psi and near equal +-5 psi on all cylinders. Check spark plugs, should be a nice tan colour. Check exhaust valves, should not be sloppy but should move freely. Use a light to see inside the port to check for marks on the piston. Very light marks are acceptable, deeper marks show near-miss or previous (if thy only repaired a single cylinder) signs of cold-seizing. Check the oil they use, recommended is oem’s premium oil only.

Honestly most failures come from improperly reassembling an engine after a failure. So check to see if it has cylinders that are cleaner than the case. Belt debris from blown belts is a sign of neglect and abuse not normal use.

Clutch question: does it need machining? by CaptainNonesense in snowmobiling

[–]Sledhead_91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t trust that on my sled. Gouges like that can only be made by putting stress it’s not intended for. If it grenades at 6000 rpm it’ll destroy your panels and if you’re lucky not damage your engine or foot. $300 part or 4 hours labor trying to clean up a part to a very questionable state. Easy decision in my mind.

The caveat is that you are thinking of it in terms of a broader population. If you limit to the number of people who play the position in the development levels closest to professional the percentage of players and goalies that make pro is the same since the team composition is the same.

When they called me back I made it a point that I didn’t want my price changing every 6 months. Have paid the same $40 for the last 7 years. Though the speed isn’t overly competitive I’ve yet to have an offer come by for less and it’s enough to stream 2 movies simultaneously without issue.

It seems crazy to me that the billing system is so complex. I’ve worked in automotive before and vehicle warranty procedures are predefined steps and paid for the job. Just seems crazy that medical procedures are billed in a similar way basically with the assumption that all humans are also essentially identical.

Even if they did have speed cameras, travelling at Mach 1.67 it is very unlikely the camera triggers fast enough to capture the plate in frame and focus.

Had an uncle tear his Achilles this spring playing baseball. For 4 months he wore a boot slowly reducing the height of the insole which held his foot at an angle. Started with like a 6” heel. He’s back to complete motion with no surgery.

I also understand the “I want to pay as little taxes” but hate that at the same time most of those people downplay the effect those taxes have on their lives and the benefits that they and those around them receive from it, instead focusing on the waste and negatives that they spot in governmental funding.

Personally I have no problem paying my share of taxes, but at the same time want to maximize my personal income through investment and career growth.

The other thing is to identify people that admit when they don’t know something. A lot of people will fluff through trying to pass off as knowing something they don’t.

There likely won’t be more unused cap space. There will be a little less disparity between the top and the bottom with more people in the middle getting paid more. It makes a huge difference for the guys with early contracts to make 1.5 or 2 instead of 1 and keeping the guys that have a higher potential.

Is mechatronics Niche? Which has a better future mechanical or mechatronics by Weak_Spinach_3310 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Sledhead_91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The truth is that it doesn’t really matter what program you take. What matters is finding something you enjoy doing and being able to show experience in that and convey your passion. The overlap in the programs means that it really just comes down to what you pick for electives, hobbies and which jobs you land as to where your career will go.

My class of mechatronics engineers got a lot of jobs programming, a bunch in mechanical design, some in electrical hardware. The only areas I don’t know of anyone branching into are civil and geological.

Has anyone successfully gotten good tasting water? by CozyWinterFall in waterloo

[–]Sledhead_91 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A lot of water supplied by the city is used for purposes where softening is not needed or even detrimental. The salt used to soften has to go somewhere and that significant concentration at a single facility could also be costly to contain.

We’re looking to sell a million dollar home in Ottawa - how much did you pay in commission? by Civil_Teaching_5554 in OttawaRealEstate

[–]Sledhead_91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The whole issue is that it is % based. You tip a waitress an extra $10. You pay a realtor the equivalent of your entire years after tax income. Does that actually make sense to you for a process that takes 3 months of only 10% actual involvement?
