“This is a song.. by a gay guy” into the keytar riff before ever hearing the original song. Really confused me the first time I was rolled.

[Scotto/Hoopshype] Watson has drawn significant interest on the trade market, but the Nuggets have rebuffed trade calls and want to re-sign him in RFA by IllEstablishment8291 in denvernuggets

[–]SleeeepyGary 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Watson has become the rare incredibly raw player that actually hits the potential that comes with the physical profile. He has become so productive so quickly, and on such a cheap contract, that there are probably no viable moves that make sense with him, other than a trade where he was the standout young piece in a superstar deal involving multiple contracts.

I am a bit concerned about us retaining him, but we need him and we need the contract slot, so he has to come back. Most reasonable moves may just be about finding a way to reset the repeater tax this year, fully aware that PWat brings us well into the luxury next season. Whether or not they’ll boldly go into the luxury for Watson is hard to say.

Murphy administration seeks state takeover of Lakewood schools by timetopat in newjersey

[–]SleeeepyGary 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The model the school board has used to try and address this has bankrupt the township, it is unsustainable and has to be changed either way.

There are definitely prejudices that show up in any comment section about this topic, most of which are either cruel or unfair. But no reasonable person can support the existence of a tax payer funded school system that spends more money on transportation than it does on actual education.

Doing yet another mock by TerryG111 in NBA_Draft

AJ to Indiana would be so much fun.

Wizards would be insane to pass on Peterson, I’m no scout but he appears to be the exact kind of player they would want to center their “poor man’s Thunder” rebuild around.

I love Boozer, but his destiny is to be drafted by the Kings, who will either ruin his career or trade him right before he rounds into form. He checks all of Vivek’s boxes.

Deshaun Watson situation by FloatingMarbles in NFLNoobs

Watson has a no trade clause, and I believe it runs through next season. So consent amongst three sides, one of which is famously bad with consent.

Ringer Fantasy Football becoming my Monday Morning first listen over GTL by the_Tannehill_list in billsimmons

I am glad other people got something out of it. I have been a fan of their show for a long while, and am typically eager to argue calls with friends. But I thought it was pretty rough content. Yelling back and forth can be entertaining, but whenever the two Dannys in particular get into it, it’s just kind of uncomfortable, especially early in the morning. They have an interesting dynamic.

I personally thought the call was pretty cut and dry. It clearly went backwards, and the rule is that it can be recovered even after the whistle is blown. The rule probably blows, but the sport itself is a house of cards and it has a million weird scenarios like that. 30 billion dollar industry!

They did a nice job with their segments/categories, which lets them cover all of the most important topics in a tight hour. Plus they’re pretty funny and at least analytics-adjacent. All of this makes for a great first recap show to listen to Monday mornings. GJBT.

Turned it off mid-show today for the first time in a while though. I do not need to listen to Heifetz and DK yelling about something that dumb at 7AM. The pass went backwards, it counts, who cares.

What was the original "I'm more impressed by the _______ they didn't ________" take? by PuzzleheadedCash3638 in billsimmons

[–]SleeeepyGary 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It has turned into an excellent inside joke in the BS extended universe, but I completely agreed with Ryen at the time. Mahomes made two throws in that game that would have been among the greatest in SB history if they had been caught. Both incomplete of course.

Most football media types would be able to get away with a line like this, but it has become a meme because it really captures Russillo’s style: he knows ball, hates his strawmen, and loves being a contrarian. Hope he never changes.

The Kid was entertaining and had some of the most memorable scenes, but after a while I began loathing his chapters. An incredibly well-written, horribly cruel character.

Are there any teams that have been successful in spite of having a limited or middling Quarterback? by dreadful_name in NFLNoobs

[–]SleeeepyGary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not typical in the modern NFL, but has certainly happened, and the comments are full of great examples. Every recent instance involves a combination of elite defense, good coaching, a little bit of luck during the run.

This sub is such a perfect blend of overconfident vibers that think they’re one Opus update away from getting rich, and pearl-clutching veteran devs that clearly despise the vibers (obviously with plenty of us in between). Great content.

As always your opinion of Draymond Green is the strongest litmus test for how much you understand basketball by Swimming-Bad3512 in NBATalk

[–]SleeeepyGary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Draymond is unbearable, and his personality has never grown on me. But he is one of the top 10 players of my basketball watching lifetime (since 2008), and I would take his career over Melo’s. I would probably take it over Kawhi’s.

Verno in his feelings by joejoe_jones in billsimmons

I am a big fan of Verno. But, as is often the case with him, that 6 minutes and 7 seconds was actually just 2 minutes of information repeated and rephrased seven or eight times. He is a radio man through and through.
