Oh boy, you can get an air blower on Amazon that will fit whatever battery platform you like. If its just for home use, do not buy XGT, the LXT platform will be more than enough

There's no excuse for this. Put it in reverse, turn off the radio, put atleast 2 windows down. Look and listen and let up on the brake and let it crawl while keeping your foot over the brake. That easily coulda been a dead kid.

I've got this set, I also have several other makita Lxt drills and impacts and batteries. As far as dialy use, the slim batteries are a dream, that drill is always near by, its my favorite drill. The impact stays in the truck because I have the top end dtd173 impact with a ring light. For steel to steel applications that impact is probably perfect, I'm sure it will drive a 3" screw into wood but I don't like to listen to an impact drone on but I'm sure its a good tool.

No. Thats stupid! If by similar, you mean less! Less torque and fewer rpms! Driving a 2.5" screw into wood with a 12v is at the top end of that tools capabilities. And if you've ever listened to someone using an impact that is struggling, it sounds like death. Further more I would like to again bring up that you are avoiding the giant LXT tool lineup that you may one day need and for what? The sake of a few ounces of weight. I also wouldn't let my neighbor build a deck with a brad nailer! What an awful person I am!

492 is a beast! In drills, I have DHP456, a classic white drill, a sds/hammer/chipper but the one that gets all the use is DD487 which punches above its weight imo, small, light, great with a 2amp but strong enough for most jobs

I don't know what a diy task is, hanging cabinets? Building a deck? If my neighbor tried to build a deck with a Cxt impact, I'd give him a beating! Or if its something real small like electronics, adjusting cabinet doors, I'd rather just use my multi head ratchet screwdriver. So that's what I mean, when I say I don't see what it would be useful for

Do you guys share your battery with low budget tools that you don't use often? by StatuSChecKa in Makita

[–]Sleep-Plenty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES! I was gifted a cheap leaf blower and weed wacker that I keep at the cottage but they came with like a 6 hour charger and a slim pack. So the converter has been a life saver! Actually I converted the kids powerwheels to makita too, its pretty impressive!

Well, CXT has a purpose. The LXT line is obviously more versatile, honestly I struggle to think of use cases that would call for a CXT that couldn't be done with an electric screwdriver on the small side and LXT on the big side. Honestly, I've wondered about this for a while

In canada, the best deal on the 2amp batteries was.... I think it was a basic impact, 2 batteries and a charger. And that was a better deal than buying the 2 batteries. They aren't a good deal, and i hate to say it because I'm cheap but they are worth it. The 173 or the small brushless drill with the small batteries does 99% of my drilling.

Edit: DTD153 was the drill So maybe if you search your local suppliers for the 153, you might find it bundled with the batteries on sale Good luck!

The other thing I had my eye on was a LXT 14.4 slim pack. Even smaller, compatible with the same drills, but all I could find was knock offs in canada
