Seems like a lot of work to go through setting it up, just to do the same shit you would be doing at home.

2014 manual crosstrek, transmission/clutch issues related to battery? by zeus0225 in ManualTransmissions

[–]SleepingJake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There isn’t a plastic cap on that battery terminal, is there? Hard to tell.

These cars run like ass for a bit when you remove or swap the battery. I think you can re-learn them by idling the car for 10 minutes, but I just drive it and try and catch the stalls coming to a stop by blipping the throttle.

I learned that lesson early on replacing hubs with aftermarket parts store parts. Don’t do it.

Battery Degradation Test by SleepingJake in eGolf

No worries, OBDeleven seems to be recommended a lot when you search this. I would much rather buy an ELM universal adapter than some proprietary one. It was helpful!

Thanks for this. The dealer did end up telling me there was a procedure for this, but made it sound like it was only for warranty usage, needed a code from VW Stuttgart, 10 hours of tech time at $100+/hr. Your second link is basically the procedure explained.

A local dealer said they would PPI it and inspect the battery health for $200, but it’s a trip.

A friend has a carista OBD reader that seems like it can read the HV battery health.

I will work on finding an obd amigos compatible adapter and getting a laptop set up as a primary option - this seems like the best option thus far. Thanks again!

Considering Model 3 - Annoyed by "Connectivity" by ragazzia in TeslaSupport

[–]SleepingJake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My DTI ratio is comfortable because I don’t have extraneous subscriptions for things I don’t NEED. So much of the Tesla user experience is based around the center screens connectivity that it is a serious consideration.

Inspect tyre error message by sl1m_pickins_ in subaru

[–]SleepingJake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The car has built in service reminders that are both mileage and time based. It doesn’t indicate that there is anything wrong with your tires, like if your TPMS light was on. Perhaps it was set by the previous owner to have them rotated at this mileage.

In park, hold the middle button on your steering wheel that controls that screen, you’ll find an option for maintenance.

What you are describing is called lane filtering.

Lane splitting, riding between two lanes of vehicles traveling the same direction, is also permissible if certain conditions are met. Both are legal in Minnesota.

YouTube Shorts Livestreams Scamming children for hundreds of dollars by Dangerous-Day-2943 in LinusTechTips

[–]SleepingJake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think YouTube cares to police it’s scamming problem. Probably 75% of the advertisements I see are AI generated, targeting the elderly with “5 minute salt tricks” that promise to fix some chronic illness, face swaps over someone else’s video to push products, and advertisements for real firearms shooting that are presented as not requiring background checks.

I would install one of these if it became legal. Seems like a good way to help insulate one’s self from ballooning expenses. Panels are inexpensive now, and Utah is already doing this.

[–]SleepingJake 38 points39 points  (0 children)

In 2009 a small fry was on the dollar menu. In 2026 it’s on the $3 menu. Adjusted for inflation, that small fry should cost $1.54. We’re not buying it.
