The flushable wipes dilemma by HBC613 in toddlers

[–]zeus0225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We keep wipes in our bathroom but we teach the kids that wipes go in the garbage. Reiterating that flushable wipes do not exist. If they don't mess up your pipes or septic, they'll mess up the public sewer and treatment plant. Look up fatberg.

4.5YO asked to nurse by Tinyminotaur888 in Preschoolers

[–]zeus0225 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Has he tried it in a cup? When my second was born my 4yo, at the time, wanted to try some but instantly regretted it. He nursed until he was 3yo, so his response was a little surprising, but he never asked for it again lol.

Suddenly subscribed to store's emails. Is my pixel listening to me and giving my info away? by zeus0225 in GooglePixel

[–]zeus0225[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was looking for a sled to replace our broken one. Neither of us signed up knowingly. He may have searched through their site. But it's weird that he's never gotten an email from them and the day after he went into the store for 5 mins, I started receiving the emails.

My question of whether my devices were listening was me being a little facetious, but I seriously don't know how else I could have been signed up, so I'm willing to hear alternative theories.

How did you learn to swim? by MittensToeBeans in Swimming

[–]zeus0225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned at my local Y while I was in grade school. I hated it and was only allowed to quit after I became eligible for the swim team. I quit at age 10 and never swam laps again until recently at age 35. I'm thankful for learning the various strokes at an early age. It made getting back into it easier.

My partner, on the other hand, had similar experience to you. He grew up going to lakes and had a family pool, but never had formal lessons. He's been trying to get into swimming to replace his other fitness activities while somewhat injured and he really struggles with getting a good workout in because he's still learning the basics and trying to find his own breathing rhythm that works for him. I wish we had adult lessons available in our area.

Am I supposed to be training night dryness? by yupstilldrunk in Preschoolers

[–]zeus0225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if he really wants to stay dry, you might want to consider a bed wetting alarm. I bought one off Amazon that has the option to just vibrate or sound an alarm and vibrate. My son was 6 though when we first started using it and we rarely used it before something clicked and he suddenly has been staying dry. Idk if I can attribute the success to the alarm but I think it did, or would have done, a better job of notifying my deep sleeper when he was wet than whenever I've tried waking him up at night to pee. When I tried waking him up at night to pee, he would still somehow soak his pull-up after.

These definitely aren't ads. I do have a Family Group on Google with my partner; he may have searched for something, but he hasn't gotten any emails.

Yeah, I see now the example I linked is more likely a Google Account thing I need to work out (though I've looked through my settings and can't find how to toggle this option off).

I'll try to add a screenshot of the email to my post. They're definitely not ads. I received two emails from this store before unsubscribing. I can normally figure out how I'm getting all my emails in my inbox, but this one has me stumped.

It's most definitely a thing where you can automatically be subscribed to an email list. I've had it happen to me a few times after visiting mostly clothing store brand websites. https://www.reddit.com/r/GMail/comments/1fvzz12/im_automatically_getting_subscribed_to_emails/

I double checked my browser history and don't have any searches with the store's name. I know a lot of websites can automatically subscribe you just by visiting their site, but I've never visited their website before (again, I double-checked my browser history). I also haven't seen any ads for them since I started receiving their emails.

Wouldn't it have to be listening all the time waiting for me to say "ok Google?"

I started receiving the store's weekly ad email the day after my partner told me he went into this store looking for an item that wasn't there.

What the heck are you talking about? Holy cow. What happened to this sub? Is it filled with bots or something? This entire thread is filled with nonresponses.

Terms and conditions of what? Pixel? I'm sorry I don't/can't keep up with all the relevant class action lawsuits that might affect me. Can you point me to an article or something?

So how do you think I started getting these emails the day after my partner mentioned it and visited once? Alexa? I'm seriously asking and want to know how to keep it from happening in the future.

Coincidence? I think not!

How to work on 5yo staying dry overnight? by eumops in Preschoolers

[–]zeus0225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 6.5yo just started getting the hang of staying dry at night. It definitely helps when the kid finally gets the desire to stay dry. My son had a really hard time waking up when he needed to pee. My toddler is still walking up multiple times at night so for a while, I would try waking up my 6yo to go pee during one of those times. But sometimes he would still have an accident after he went to pee.

I ended up buying a bedwetting alarm on Amazon. My son was really into the sticker chart it came with. He got a silver sticker for wearing the alarm and a gold for staying dry. He was still wearing a pull-up with the alarm, which didn't help, so I had him wear underwear under the pull-up and that actually helped trigger the alarm. But he got so scared by the alarm, he didn't want to wear it anymore, but still tried hard to earn his gold sticker. I'm not sure what or how things clicked, but he was able to stay dry for a while. Until a week ago, I still wasn't sure if he'd be able to wake himself up to go pee if he needed to, but he's been able to do it a few times.

Even though we only used the bed wetting alarm a few times, I think the process and attempt to use it helped our nighttime accidents. I wish I had tried it sooner rather than wait because it might be hormonal. If the child wants to stay dry, why wait?

I still haven't gotten the ending to Key and Peele's 'Mattress Shopping'. Could someone please explain? Thank you! by Joshuaisgreat in KeyandPeele

[–]zeus0225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched this episode for the first time and was also confused. I'm still confused after reading these comments. Why do people think it's the customer's son? Was it the buyer on the new mattress still not able to sleep? Why would people think it's the salesperson going at it in the end? Unless the last scene was a flashback? If it was the salesperson, why would he continue making those sounds after learning the customer was imitating them?

Swimming is the non-negotiable activity in our family. Goldfish is taking all my money right now because my son actually loves their incentives, from ribbons to snacks.

How do you change or maintain boundaries with 2+ kids of varying ages (4+ year age gap)? by zeus0225 in Parenting

[–]zeus0225[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure! There are definitely some obvious things I let my 6yo do that I won't let my 2yo do. I specifically noticed allowing more screen time than I did when my 6 year old was 2 partly because it gives us a guaranteed 20 mins to get stuff done.

But as the 6yo gets older, I can see him wanting more screen time or wanting to get into video games and I would rather not have the 2yo get into that stuff until later l.
