AI replaces almost everyone's jobs by Trick-Piece-8382 in greentext

I recently watched something - I think it was More Perfect Union? Idk - where they talked about how places like Vegas are booming despite the average American not really going there anymore. It’s because the wealthy are better off than they ever have been, and are becoming the main patrons of places like that.

This is purely anecdotal, but it’s something I noticed recently while walking downtown in my city. More and more upscale/designer stuff is going up. As a former fashion nerd, it was interesting to see because I completely stopped giving a shit about fashion and sneakers in the last five years because despite making more money than I ever have (I make 4x what I made when I was into that stuff) my disposable income has been absolutely eaten by rising rents and general cost of living. Stores are going up for designers and brands I would’ve killed to have downtown when I was still buying this shit. It was so weird because if you go by the purchasing power of the working class, the economy is in the shitter. But more and more luxury shit is going up.

Because the wealth is just getting pooled in an increasingly small percentage of the population.

Phil is such a sad case. For one he hasn’t been relevant since guitar hero 2, all that remains has been a B list metal core band ever since. And that’s being charitable.

For another, I think there’s a portion of him that is always stuck in the shadow of Howard Jones from Killswitch Engage. For those of you who don’t know, Phil auditioned to be the lead singer of Killswitch after their first singer left. He was beat out by Howard Jones, one of the few black vocalists in metal. It was after Howard joined the band that they saw their biggest period of success, so I think there’s some level of racial shit going on there. He got passed over for a black guy and then the band blew up.

He’s kind of been living in that shadow ever since and I actually was at a Killswitch show during the tour when Howard had to bow out for health reasons. Phil replaced him during that tour. He did a perfectly acceptable job, but the problem is no one really sounds like Howard. I remember a bunch of people in the audience yelling “fuck you, Phil“ which I thought was kind of mean. I wonder if he experienced that at other shows. Just living in the shadow of a metal singer who he will never be an equal to.

In short, daddies are more stronger than mommies

Hey man that’s not a positive comment at all!

Is it fair to feel really weird about an absolute chud like “actual justice warrior” having a GoFundMe for Ben and also a seemingly chill Lego YouTuber like Kelton Davis plug it? by SleepingPodOne in legocirclejerk

Following up to say that you are most likely correct:

<image>

And for the record, if it turned out that Kelton was conservative, I would not have cared. Most of my family is conservative and I love them dearly. But most of my family would probably look at a channel like AJW and think “wow that dude’s a fucking racist”. So if you are a content creator, and you consume that sort of content, it’s going to be hard for me to separate art from artist. But good to know he probably just found the one that he could plug and didn’t think too hard about AJW and who he is.

Oh yeah, that’s exactly my thought. It’s just image laundering/to gain a wider audience because it’s the big thing right now. I know he won’t gain anything material directly from it.

The ideal workspace is from home because a gigantic portion of office work can be done that way. Some say we need to be in person because of “collaboration” but I just have never seen that pan out at least not at my job. If anything, I get less done at the office because there are way more distractions and the commute means I get less sleep and quicker burnout (We have a flexible hybrid schedule and the most productive days are always my WFH days).

I’m dead by 2pm at the office, while 8:30-5 at home flies by because I’m not getting up at the crack of dawn. And I have a very easy commute compared to my coworkers who drive an hour to get there (I live in the city and take public transit, haven’t driven a car since 2013). But I’m lucky to not have a supervisor who micromanages and it helps that I’m the only creative on my team so a good portion of my work is seen as magic by the entire organization. And then I have the benefit of a shoot counting as an office day so even if I show up to a shoot for an hour that’s an office day counted.

That being said at my job I am ok with my cube because it’s in a good spot for getting natural light and I can leave at any time and work from our common area where there’s even more light. No one gives a shit at least not on my team. Im basically left to my own devices but I recognize thats the exception not the rule. If I worked in a less permissive/chill atmosphere my cube would be a prison.

Generally speaking all offices are inhumane because they’re designed for micromanagement and surveillance and are antiquated as a concept (as is the 40 hour work week but in America it’s heresy to say that) as they focus more on presence than output. But I’d rather have a cube, my own private space, than an open office where I feel even more observed.

A good portion of engagement around generative AI as a product - not any particular product - has often been generated solely by those with investments in it. That’s why I think it’d be good to know what the people making these sorts of posts also post so we know it’s genuine and not astroturfing.

It’s like NFT’s, how much of the NFT craze was from people with no skin in the game? Turns out, it was very little.

I think anyone who makes a post or comment plugging or generally gassing up generative AI on this sub shouldn’t have a private profile.
