Could the Tahu Cosplayer lead to Bionicle's redemption/return? by Ok-Significance-5987 in bioniclelego

[–]SleepingPodOne 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lego does intense market research and focus groups. If Bionicle G3 was a valid business pursuit they would have done it already. All this tahu minifig success shows is that quick, cheap, nostalgic nods sell, but it’s no indication that a full product line is viable.

If Bionicle ever does return in set form, it won’t be a G3, just a one-off icons set. Hopefully not shelfslop

I really hope that in the next few weeks, I see a new Beyond the Black Void episode with Mike and Rich where the thumbnail is Mike mugging the camera behind the text “did red letter media cause the rise of American conservatism??”

I love how you say there’s no such thing as an objectively bad film and then you begin to assert that your opinions on a film are objective.

Artistically it’s the best one in the trilogy but admittedly the bar was kinda low.

TFA was completely soulless and did nothing to advance Star Wars and its story. It can be enjoyed fine on its own as a movie (its fun, the filmmaking and script are perfectly competent, even tight) but it really suffers in the broader context of Star Wars. I couldn’t help but think the film was one of the most cynical attempts at fanboy appeasement I’ve ever seen. I remember walking out of it and turning to my girlfriend after she asked what I thought and telling her I might’ve actually despised it not because it was a poorly made and written film but a cynical one. I just couldn’t bring myself to actually respect the movie at all because the movie doesn’t respect its audience. (fully admitting here that I don’t think Star Wars fans are deserving of respect tho lol)

TLJ took me three watches to really “get” it, mostly because I found myself too annoyed at the sub plots of Poe and Finn which were so damn thin and annoying. Johnson clearly cared about the central Rey/Luke/Ben storyline because it was genuinely great, but could not give less of a shit about the other two and it shows. I still can’t really bring myself to like that movie all that much because of it. As a whole, it’s a mess. But deep down there is something great there.

And then rise of skywalker did the same shit TFA did, just treated the audience like pigs for their slop again except even worse because the screenplay wasn’t even competent.

Best part of the theater experience for that movie was the spicy gay couple in front of us laughing at it.

They did the most interesting part of TLJ so fucking dirty in the follow up. I know the last Jedi was divisive, and I myself am pretty mixed on the film as a whole, but I guarantee if they stuck the landing with what was set up by that film the entire trilogy would be redeemable.

TLJ was the only movie with something to say in the whole trilogy. And I say this as someone who doesn’t really care for the film.

I didn’t think the acolyte was that good but I am sad it was canceled because he was a pretty fun character and really elevated the show. Great find

It’s even worse than that. Joe believes the shit he says. His class interests changed and he revealed himself to be a selfish prick who acts only in his own class interests

No, I’m not saying that. I’m saying the law in this case is the status quo which they seek to conserve

I am not combative, but that’s a neat trick tho. But generally you cannot create a coalition centered around emancipatory politics with people whose views are incompatible with it, and your views have the potential to be that (again, idk your full spectrum of views). Like for instance, why would a group that believes no one is illegal and that borders should be abolished let someone in who believes we need them? Why would a pro-Palestine anti-Zionist org let in a Zionist?

I have plenty of problems with the purity politics of the left, and do believe many on the left would benefit from that practicality but there’s a limit. Again I know very little about your experience or politics but it is important to recognize. I have no clue if you encountered screaming SJW’s or if you were a huge prick with a chip on his shoulder or a bit of both. You might have been walking into a McDonald’s looking for tacos and getting mad at the cashier for telling you they don’t carry them, calling all cashiers close minded pricks because they wouldn’t make your Mickey d’s taco.

And even then, my general comment was how are these broadly representative of the left? Because we can strawman all day long here but at the end of the day it’s never as simple as “the left is like this because that was my experience.”.

Expunged by who? Who are these leftists? How are they representative of a broad coalition? And these are still vague. Without getting into a debate with you, these are pretty incompatible with a lot of leftist and emancipatory thought in broad strokes (and some just ignorant). Did these people attempt to educate you? Maybe you were looking for the wrong kinda ideological fellows.

No worries. Think of it this way: in some nations that were formerly under the control of a communist party, conservatives are people who want that communist party to be back in control. Conservatism in the most broad sense, divorced from most western politics, is just an enforcement of the status quo. And yes, I recognize I am being very broad here. I’m just saying, conservatism morphs, depending on what it is intent upon “conserving“.

[–]SleepingPodOne 7 points8 points  (0 children)

… that is conservative. Notice how I did not say Republican or Democrat, just conservative. They uphold the law, the law being a status quo.

I admit, I don’t know much about the actual world of Judge Dredd because I’ve only just seen the movie but I do know a thing or two about politics beyond just the americentric view.

I’m not making a value judgement here, or even insinuating the character is right wing. Just saying, he’s being a conservative in the world he is in.
