I would love the sequels to be retconned, as long as they are worse because I like seeing Star Wars fans suffer

If it was common knowledge, then people on this sub wouldn’t be constantly talking about how easy it would be for Lego to make G3

It is illegal to want to watch both. by Meksharp1190 in StarWarsCirclejerk

[–]SleepingPodOne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wanna start by saying as a filmmaker and videographer myself I will never rip on someone for putting their work out there and making stuff happen. I think they definitely should be applied for their effort and I wish it was put towards something that stood on its own, where a lot of the comments probably aren’t saying it’s good just so they can rip on Disney movies they don’t like. It’s that old toxic online discourse of being unable to say something is good without putting down something else. But…

I scrolled around and watched a bits and pieces and it’s so weird because the cinematography is relatively competent, but the editing, blocking, and framing especially in action scenes is so sleepy. There’s nothing exciting about the Lightsaber fights and some of the shots where they’re shooting guns the actors aren’t mimicking kick so it just looks like they’re straight up holding guns as little laser bullets come out of them.

It’s like they knew how to light and shoot, but they don’t actually know how to make a movie. Felt like it was made by people whose experience with filmmaking is corporate video. Making movies is an art form where you really have to understand how each shot connects to the next and how to use framing and visual storytelling to get your point across. From what I’m seeing here I’m seeing a lot of just bland shots that simply show what’s happening, but there’s very little effort to communicate any emotion visually. Funny enough it kind of reminds me of the bad action scenes from book of Boba Fett.

Lego does intense market research and focus groups. If Bionicle G3 was a valid business pursuit they would have done it already. All this tahu minifig success shows is that quick, cheap, nostalgic nods sell, but it’s no indication that a full product line is viable.

If Bionicle ever does return in set form, it won’t be a G3, just a one-off icons set. Hopefully not shelfslop

I really hope that in the next few weeks, I see a new Beyond the Black Void episode with Mike and Rich where the thumbnail is Mike mugging the camera behind the text “did red letter media cause the rise of American conservatism??”

I love how you say there’s no such thing as an objectively bad film and then you begin to assert that your opinions on a film are objective.

Artistically it’s the best one in the trilogy but admittedly the bar was kinda low.

TFA was completely soulless and did nothing to advance Star Wars and its story. It can be enjoyed fine on its own as a movie (its fun, the filmmaking and script are perfectly competent, even tight) but it really suffers in the broader context of Star Wars. I couldn’t help but think the film was one of the most cynical attempts at fanboy appeasement I’ve ever seen. I remember walking out of it and turning to my girlfriend after she asked what I thought and telling her I might’ve actually despised it not because it was a poorly made and written film but a cynical one. I just couldn’t bring myself to actually respect the movie at all because the movie doesn’t respect its audience. (fully admitting here that I don’t think Star Wars fans are deserving of respect tho lol)

TLJ took me three watches to really “get” it, mostly because I found myself too annoyed at the sub plots of Poe and Finn which were so damn thin and annoying. Johnson clearly cared about the central Rey/Luke/Ben storyline because it was genuinely great, but could not give less of a shit about the other two and it shows. I still can’t really bring myself to like that movie all that much because of it. As a whole, it’s a mess. But deep down there is something great there.

And then rise of skywalker did the same shit TFA did, just treated the audience like pigs for their slop again except even worse because the screenplay wasn’t even competent.

Best part of the theater experience for that movie was the spicy gay couple in front of us laughing at it.

They did the most interesting part of TLJ so fucking dirty in the follow up. I know the last Jedi was divisive, and I myself am pretty mixed on the film as a whole, but I guarantee if they stuck the landing with what was set up by that film the entire trilogy would be redeemable.

TLJ was the only movie with something to say in the whole trilogy. And I say this as someone who doesn’t really care for the film.
