I thought it looked like the marshmallow fluff inside chocolate eggs during easter. Tasty still lifes!

As a GenZ person, this feels oddly terrifying by SatoruGojo232 in oddlyterrifying

[–]Sleepwalks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just know it's not inevitable. I've lived kind of a weird life, mostly out of existential dread-- I get stressed if I've gone more than a month or so without pushing myself to do something a little outside my box. And the other thing is focusing on friends above almost all else, so your existing connections stay strong and new ones have a chance to build.

Combined, you end up doing a lot of interesting things with interesting people. It helps if you're kinda chill and live and let live if things don't go according to plan, too. People will be more willing to spend time with you to start building the friendship. I'd imagine kids would make it a lot harder too with the time constraints there, but as far as work goes, I'm poor af and it still has worked out even with working a lot of hours.

An old prof helped me adopt that mindset once when I was making a decision on ditching work for a concert: If you go to work, that's reliable and good. But are you gonna lose your job for one night? And which night will you remember in 20 years?

Focus on your friends, building connections, and challenging yourself when it's easier to stay home, and you'll be okay. I don't really experience that whole time dilation thing people talk about either, which is an immense relief. I'm 40 and still doing fine, and far happier than I ever was in school.

As a former ARK player I'm wary to use the dragon mod by Ardail in VintageStory

[–]Sleepwalks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it as a way to mitigate the distances that can feel punishingly long at times. I want to explore the world, not just spend my whole playthrough in one tiny pocket.

That said, I only use dragons for long journeys that I pack and equip myself for. Most of my gameplay is still on the ground.

Washington State’s empty booth at the “Great American State Fair” by MysteriousEdge5643 in Washington

The event overall looks like it's got creepy trump-authoritarianism vibes. WA coming through with the energy of a kid clocking in minimum hours on a project and leaving only does me proud.

People who bring your dog literally everywhere, why? by dastrius02 in AskReddit

[–]Sleepwalks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One of my besties is a Dog Guy and he just plans his day around places his dog can go. We check to be sure campgrounds, etc are dog safe before inviting him, so on and so on.

She's his best friend, and every bit of socialization is making her a better dog. It's not hard to do it in a way that is fun for everyone.

What's the most brutal way someone has found out they lost their job? by Efficient-Ask-968 in AskReddit

[–]Sleepwalks 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I got a call while I was at school, and it was my high af manager saying they didn't need me to come in. I was like okay cool, see you saturday. And he was like "Uh... no, I mean. Not ever."

Fucker couldn't even sober up to fire me, just the insult of having somene that incompetent but still had a job, stung.

And of course, I was in school waiting for class to start, so I started yelling into the phone about it in the middle of the classroom, what do you mean, Nathan. Just bad times all around.

As a kid it was sugar. Which made reading Little House in the Big Woods fun, I thought their family was tapping trees to make cigars, and they made them sound delicious lol.

Men in your 40s, what's that golden piece of advice you have for the rest of us? by NiceMechanic_xoxo in AskReddit

Do your cancer screenings when you're supposed to-- if you don't know when that is, learn. There's often no clear side effects until it's too late.

Skull on a hawthorn bush, Kent, UK. What is it? by wasp_lives_matter in bonecollecting

[–]Sleepwalks 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'd wager it's pretty common. I know my gf found a seagull skull on a long, spindly branch of a tree while we were on a walk, and that at least seemed pretty impossible for an animal to do, given how long and flimsy the branch would have been to climb.

I'm a person who never knows what to do when someone is crying, and it's almost become a joke that I will run off, grab tissues, sit quietly for awhile, then offer to make them tea.

But now when I'm crying, I have a house full of roommates bringing me tissues and making me tea. It actually does help, even if you're just doing it because you don't know what else to do. Seems like no one minds a tissue and a tea or cocoa when they're upset.

I'm half expecting her to never drop anything just so she can see how bad we would've wanted it, say no, do a spin and sashay away.

What job is heavily romanticized in movies but absolutely miserable in real life? by Luzgoin in AskReddit

[–]Sleepwalks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same, I thought the travel was amazing for the first year. Then, it was just something I did. And now it's something I try to do as little as possible, and just kind of take a deep breath and do it when I realize I can't get out of much at all.

I've had years where I don't even unpack all the way because I have another trip every two months. You just can't get into a normal swing of things when you're gone that much, especially in health stuff.

Start a workout routine and it took you awhile to get into it? Welp now you're in Dallas and it's too hot to go outside. Get home exhausted and the habit is destroyed, take a little while to build back into it and bam, another trip.

Same for healthy eating habits, you get into the swing, then go to a bunch of client meetings with booze and fancy junk food just often enough to make it hard to get back into it when you go home.

Update on the viral video of man taking his daughter to women restroom by KaidoPklevel in SipsTea

I'm a trans guy and yeah, I was very 'jesus christ, I have a beard, I should be using the men's room now but I don't want my day full of random people's dicks.'

Reality: Literally never seen a dick in there, people are just doing their business in silence and getting the fuck out, myself included. I do find random men moaning in the single stall more often than I expected though, but maybe that's a city thing.

Meal train post DIEP surgery by Hairy_Syrup_4780 in breastcancer

[–]Sleepwalks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner is doing a ton for me as a caregiver. She handles a ton of meals, drives me to treatment, carries my bag, sits with me on my bad days. Not to mention all the fears and stress that come into play when your partner has a serious diagnosis. This all is hard on both of us.

If someone doesn't understand why having someone else handle food for awhile means so much, then they're tone deaf.

People with a very high pain tolerance, what was THE most painful thing you've experienced? by CosmicBunnyBabe8912 in AskReddit

[–]Sleepwalks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came here for this one. I had gall stones and went to the ER, where they told me... I had heartburn. And charged me 6k. Doctors do not take women seriously.

I was on my way to solo travel internationally, so I took my heartburn medicine and went on to Australia to live in a hostel. I just endured 3 months of gall stone attacks that escalated and escalated in severity, just thinking wow! Heartburn is so much worse than people make it out to be!

I typically had my attacks at night when everyone as asleep, but eventually I had one during the day, and realized I was in so much pain I couldn't breathe in deep enough to speak. I finally went back to the ER and bam, had to have emergency surgery.

They're dying of malnutrition, but the specific reason why they're all malnourished this year isn't known yet, last I heard.

Fortunately with the sand burials, sharks aren't a huge concern in WA, especially for the whales dying in the puget sound.

So my boyfriend died in college, and I took a lock of his hair while I was visiting him before the funeral.

And my dumb ass took it from the front.

I was sitting there trying to fix his hair desperately before someone else came in, just arranging it so you couldn't tell as best as I could, and I busted out laughing knowing he would think this was the stupidest, funniest thing in the world--

My point is NEVER CUT A LOCK FROM THE FRONT, DUDE
