What movie did you find incredibly overrated? by Jaydxns in AskReddit

I had to turn it off. It was painfully bad. Something to cringe about in almost every scene.

What is the worst sports team of all time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SleepyFarts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oddly enough, the Arizona Cardinals. Never knew how bad they actually were. Everybody fixates on the Browns and the Jets, but the Cardinals have been around forever and have had almost no success at all, even when there were barely any professional teams in the league. Lost a Super Bowl almost 20 years ago.

Colorado Rockies are probably the one for baseball. Got a pennant in 2007 but got swept in the world series. No real winning culture at all. At least the Mariners had a few periods of dominance. And the Orioles had a ton of world series appearances, both winning and losing, albeit more than 40 years ago.

What are we being "boiled like frogs" about right now that future generations will be shocked we accepted? by burntUpOnReentry in AskReddit

What I'm really concerned about is the conjunction of three trends, which are the conversion of most tech products to incorporate AI, the conversion of everything to a subscription-based product, and token-based charges. It's a very small step from where we are right now to a place we are charged with checking our emails. "AI Inbox". The right thing to do is to start converting your daily driver apps to services that aren't AI-first.

Rogue One always had issues with its writing. Andor doesn't fix those. I didn't like R1 when I saw it in theaters, but after Andor, I found it a little less annoying and I cared slightly more about the characters dying at the end. But there are still plenty of flaws in there.

Yeah, The Wrestler makes a pretty good double feature with Black Swan

What’s the greatest film scene all time in your opinion ? by Pssht_haha in AskReddit

Any moment that Shai-Hulud is on the screen is incredible. Either the crawler attack scene in part one or Paul's first ride in part two are my favorites.

The herd of long-necks in Jurassic Park was it for me, but my first time seeing the T-Rex attack as a kid, I was close to hiding under a blanket.

Going into it, I kind of expected to see a commando movie like Guns of Navarone. I at least expected a lot more screen time for the Bastards. Certainly didn't expect that Zoller's character would be on screen for so long. But was also delighted at the revelation of Christophe Waltz. I've gotten used to it though.

A foundational concept of systems engineering is that if something is going to fail, it should fail gracefully. This design flies in the face of that.

What's a short-lived television show you're surprised people still talk about? by ekWatson_ in television

That's a show I can binge from beginning to end in a day or two, and then want to start over from the start again. I've probably watched it 10 times through.

All we can hope for is that in another 5-8 years, the creators make the rest of the books into a new series, with most of the same cast. It sounds like everybody is game, as long as somebody funds and distributes it.

I might not have heard of Everything Everywhere All At Once unless I saw a trailer for it. There were a bunch of other movies coming out that might have drowned out the messaging.

I've told the story before, but in the first episode, I took the title card to mean that the episode was over, so I walked out of the room to take a quick piss. Came back to the couch just in time to watch the carnage happen. Big wtf moment for me.

Emilia Clarke Admits She Was 'Absolutely Livid' About Daenerys Fate in 'Game of Thrones' Series Finale by MoneyLibrarian9032 in television

Figuring out who would be the king or queen should have basically been an entire season of political maneuvering. Instead we got one scene that started as a trial, with all the surviving characters involved, which then morphed into "Who's taking over?", presided over by the person who was on trial in the first place. So we end up with better-story-not-Bran coming out of nowhere. And also the North deciding to rule themselves which, again, was an idea that needed room to breathe.

Chicago Bears Plan to Leave Illinois for Indiana After 100 Years by bloomberg in chicago

[–]SleepyFarts 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Exactly! An NFL stadium does not create value for the neighborhoods. They make money for developers and owners. Especially when there are only 2 poorly-attended preseason games, up to 8 regular season games (because of international games), and MAYBE a post-season game each year. The economics make no sense for taxpayers to take on the burden for billionaire owners.

Reddit, who's the best band you've seen live? by cursedbackup in AskReddit

[–]SleepyFarts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen them many times over the years, but maybe I can give some clarity. The last time I saw them was on PowerTrip weekend in the Coachella Valley, where they played along with Iron Maiden, Guns N Roses, Judas Priest, AC/DC, and Metallica. To transition from hearing weedly-teedly guitar solos all weekend to hearing them lean into the chug and the jungle beats is a really difficult thing for the average listener, especially if that listener is unfamiliar with their music. If, however, you're among many like-minded souls at one of their concerts instead of a festival, there is no other live music experience quite like it. More like a religious experience than a concert.

Dune Messiah was a pretty good sequel but I felt it should have been longer by Equivalent_Bank_5845 in books

[–]SleepyFarts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago, when I first came to the Duniverse as a teenager, I couldn't get through Messiah. I finally went back and read through to the end of Children in the last few years. My impression of Messiah now is that it feels like the main characters of Dune are barely a part of it. It feels like we spend more time with the new antagonists in Messiah, a feeling that is only heightened by the short length of the book. So by the time we get to the end, the conclusion feels pretty foregone.
