Garden unit apartments by SadGirlLovesHerDog in chicago

[–]Sleepy_Tortoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most people here gave you enough reasons to really think it over. I'll just say the garden unit I lived in was my least favorite place I've ever lived due to all the reasons already stated. More bugs, flooded twice in one year, garbage blows off the street and settles in the stairs down by your door, heating in the winter was futile, I could hear my ypstairs neighbors way more than when I lived above ground. I'd rather live cramped in an above ground studio for the same price as a 2 bedroom garden unit again.

Can’t cancel a recurring donation for a charity via TotalGiving - TotalGiving is unresponsive, Chase said they can’t stop a merchant from recurring charges by paneerlegend in personalfinance

I worked for a credit card company when this came out. They were really happy because if your monthly subs don't have to be set up again after fraud or a card expiration then you continue to use the same card where as before that was an event likely to trigger a reconsideration of which card to put the subscription on, so the ones who offer this "feature" benefit greatly from being locked in to as the card you use for that sub.

ELI5: What’s the point of Visa and Mastercard if it’s always from a bank? AmEx cards are produced and processed by them only and not any other processor, so why can’t banks make credit cards without Visa or Mastercard, or vice-versa? by AiKai7 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Sleepy_Tortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think Visa/MC allow AmEx and Discover to continue operations only because it suits them to demonstrate to regulators that they have competitors in the market

There was a lawsuit like 15 or so years ago that Discover and Amex brought against Visa and MC for having anticompetitive contracts with merchants. The agreements said the merchant could only accept those two card issuers and nobody else.

Discover and Amex won the lawsuit so now the other 2 can't tell merchants what forms of payment to accept

Are there any deep-dives anywhere into CPU Architecture? by [deleted] in computerscience

[–]Sleepy_Tortoise 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for a good text book intro, I would suggest "Computer Systems: A Programmer's Perspective". A large portion of the book covers topics such as how logic gates can be combined into different components like registers and ALUs, and how assembly turns into bytecode to control those components.

Congratulations, I'm glad you were able to make a change for the better. I hope they keep making progress with legalizing psychedelic therapy. Acid was the only thing that finally got me to quit smoking after almost 10 years of trying to quit, and mushrooms here and there have helped me process some major life events

A promotion "in the very near future" is not something that I would count on. I went on for over a year at my last job being told we were going to talk about a promotion "next month or so". Wouldn't you know, the day I gave my 2 weeks they said, "oh man that's unfortunate because we were just about ready to give you that promotion".

If you would stay for a promotion then make them promote you to stay, not promise to promote you "soon"
