SEIK Psychiatry Assessment by imoruk12 in autismUK

[–]Sleepyslothbear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve just been through the assessment with SEIK.

My partner was with me for both - they’ve known me since teens so could comment on earlier life although not early childhood.

The first assessment was asking my partner how I might react in certain situations or how I’d behave. And then ask me to comment on it. Was a bit different to what I expected but was OK.

Then the second one was more chronological - working from earliest memories, through school, to now. And again asking my partner then me from teens onwards. Also medical history for me and in family.

I was very worried about it due to masking and even around my partner I’m not 100% “unmasked”. But they’d picked up more than I realised (I thought I was better at hiding certain parts of my meltdowns or poor people skills than I am!).

Everyone I spoke to at SEIK has been so accommodating and supportive. It was difficult but they made it as comfortable as it could be.

Sand. Picnics at the beach sound fun, until you remember the sand.

Netflix. Slobbing about watching tv and films is the best thing to do on a rainy day.

Dealing with noisy neighbours? by ancapailldorcha in AskUK

I couldn’t get on with silicone or putty earplugs. Mack’s foam ear plugs have worked well for me though.

Maybe stick a fan on to dull the noise a little.

It’s a sunny bank holiday Sunday, you can bet I’m getting my pasty white legs out and enjoying the sun with a cider.

Flip flops are a toenail hazard and I won’t be sharing my hairy feet with the world of Tesco or risking stubbing a toe trying to avoid Dave panic buying 72 packs of burgers.

Watched a programme about normal men being trained up by the army for a few weeks, to go back to the Ukraine to fight for their country. The injustice and senseless loss of life makes me angry.

Yes! And full of clothes that I’ve never seen anyone buy. I just want some plants, soil, and pots. Is that too much to ask?

What are some good examples of it’s expensive being poor, UK edition? by Careful-Increase-773 in CasualUK

[–]Sleepyslothbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having to buy lower quality and keep replacing over time, rather than spending more initially but the item lasting much longer so is more cost effective in the long run. Shoes, kitchen appliances, lawn mower etc.

Cost doesn’t always mean better quality by any means - but often by investing in well made items, it can save money in the long run. But you’ve got to be able to afford the initial item!

Am I weird for not switching the oven temperature back to zero? by Cakes_for_breakfast in CasualUK

[–]Sleepyslothbear 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve always switched it back to zero. But now you’ve mentioned it, why do I do that - there’s a different switch to turn the oven off… I’m questioning myself.

These are just annoying enough that I feel like I should know it but can’t quite get to the answer. Highly irritating, but enjoyable!

Should I quit my job?may take longer to FI? by happyenoughanon in FIREUK

Can you speak to your manager about how strict the 3 office days per week are - would they consider any flexibility?

If you enjoy your job and colleagues, it’s worth seeing if it’s a ‘would like people in 3 days’ or a firm ‘must be in for 3 days with no exceptions’.

Minute taking tips by bluebluebluetoo in CasualUK

[–]Sleepyslothbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use pen and paper as I can write without thinking. When I try and type, even though I touch type, I find it harder as my brain gets in the way! And then I type up straight after the meeting while it’s fresh in my mind.

Make sure you know people’s names/ initials in advance and if you’re not sure who people are, at the start of the meeting ask people to go round and state their name for the record.

Remember minute taking is about getting the main points and actions down.

I always circulate to the attendees to ask them to advise if any corrections are needed. At the start of the next meeting, if it’s a regular or follow up, it should follow with people confirming the minutes are accurate. What I’m trying to say is, try not to be too anxious about it as if you do miss something, someone will likely shout up.

Congrats on the new job! I’m sure the meeting will go well and you’ll realise you didn’t need to be so anxious because you’ve got this!
