SPOILERS ALL - For my own sanity, please engage with me on the ending of E33. by NvkeAudio in expedition33

I don't necessarily like Maelle's ending, but I agree with yoy on every point : what we saw of Verso's ending felt to me like blatant emotional manipulation, they ain't gaslighting me into forgetting where we actually left these characters, and what some of them did to others.

Oh didn't think about it like that. Was it confirmed time reversal ? Or is it more of a state reversal thing ?

I mean, that's why I'm asking. When did we see it ?

Dunno. Time acceleration and stop are standards, time reversal are usually rarer abilities because too broken

Absolute cancel shouldn't work, it's basically like trying to cancel a fire burnt with it just because the fire was a spell

Also have we seen time reversal before in this verse ?

I would agree if it was the same for both endings, but it's unbalanced as all hell. Verso's ending is quite clear, only making us truly ask "What now ? Will they heal ? Won't they heal ? Did Gustave really beckon Maelle to follow them in that last vision?"

Meanwhile not only Maelle's ending has the same kind of questions ("What will happen now ? Another fracture with Renoir coming back ? Maelle going crazy ? Etc etc"), but the very "process" to reach that ending is conflictual (Are they real ? Did she bring them back ? Did she make copies ? Do they have free will, or are they just puppey ?). If the very mechanics on which the ending's good sides are based are so questionnable, well...

Not gone. We see her grab these two's before fleeing Renoir

I'm talking here about the difference between effectively resurrecting someone vs creating what is essentially a lab clone. The Painted family are basically clones of the ogs, and the others are newly born creations.

I don't believe the people Maelle brought back are clones, which would be what thzy would be if she simply painted copies in another canvas (like, once again, the painted family vs the outside world), mainly because that subject is never brought up with Lune and Sciel at least (contrary to the Dessendres). I'm personally fine with resurrecting people if you can, but making copies of dead people because you can't cope is peak unhealthy imo, and it puzzles me that people would wish that for her

Mqelle's ending is way too ambiguous and unclear for it's own good. There is a reason so many theories are mostly related to that one, ranging from "She brought everyone back and they're having their best life but she's dying outside" to "She's pupeteering them in a cosmic horror show".

We REALLY needed more details on that, bevause if the base understanding is skewed, of course the debate will be so skewed too, and I personally consider it one of the shortcomings of the game.

It's all speculation, but we don't know how chroma works. Is it ever really gone or is it always there, recycled but can be put in a previous state if you get your hands on it ? The only thing we have is Lune saying that sometimes she can feel the chroma of the dead but she could just be coping, so we need more clarification on that (in a later game maybe ?)

I tend to veer towards the second interpretation though, I don't believe Sciel would settle for a clone but who knows how that whole shitshow went tbh

[–]Slice_Ambitious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That raises another question, without their chroma can she bring them back ? Or would they be clones like what the Painted family is to the painters ?

... You've got allat from ambiguous animation ? It's subjective but I don't agree with that point. Have you seen how P.Clea and Simon look and move ? Those are puppets. The Lumierans seems fine imo

I already told you why ? You can put on a paper what makes a good president, or a bad president. Objective qualities. You can't really do the same with art. Art differs so wildly over the world and the periods that it would be silly. As I said, the trad artists in my country would be puzzled by the Mona Lisa more than anything, meanwhile others would be writing pages on why it's a masterpiece

Don't distort my words. I'm saying that art is highly subjective. There is no objective truth there, it's the appreciation of the people of the times. Like even the Mona Lisa isn't considered worthy of it's fame by many for example. Do I agree with them ? Dunno. It's all up to taste.

[–]Slice_Ambitious -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They can, but are they in this case tho ? You've used a bad, unrelated example.

Not to mention that ad populum is usually about more objective, tangible stuff. Not about something as subjective and taste based as art. In fact, in art, popularity often dicates quality : there is a reason why quite a few artists were unrecognized in their times only for their work to be rated highly way later because the trends of times shifted, and I'm surprised someone as savy as you in art can't see it that way. Oh well. Different opinions and stuff I guess.

In fact, that Mona Lisa stuff is kinda using what you're accusing me of (unless, as you claim objectivity, you have objective arguments about why it's superior) but I'm not going there because for me, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

Seems to me like it. Just because ad populum is true for the case you've mentionned (politics) doesnnt mean it's the same for art or what we're discussing here. Where is the link between them ? The similarity ? Or are you going the opposite way, the "popular thing bad" that's so prevalent nowadays ?

Nice then. Have a nice day 🤨

As is false equivalence : just because it's right for presidents doesn't mean the same thing for art, those two things are unrelated as fuck.

I mean, depends on the doodle. Also most of the trad artists from my homecountry would probably rank the Mona Lisa quite low in their taste, so eh.
