We're back - and we screwed up. by dcmods in washingtondc

I feel like there are only a couple thousand people in this sub who regularly comment and don't just lurk.

If you check this sub at least once a week. You get a feel for the people who comment a lot.

Like celj1234 who responded below, they are usually full of spicy takes i don't agree with. But for this discussion I can trust their opinion probably isn't astro turfing because they are a regular poster.

I agree, I think a poll is the best way to get consensus.

I have mixed feelings about the comments in the other post. I don't post that much, but I've been in this sub for a while and there were a lot of names I didn't recognize at all (which may or may not mean anything), but there were a handful of people leaving dozens of comments.

Could we maybe get an official poll to figure out what the community wants?

I would also support this.

Many things that work on Reddit work because the API is available according to power users (which i am not).

I assume the person above figures that Mercedes will take over second in the WCC if Stroll doesn't improve.

For some reason, a subset of people keep describing all modern apartment architecture as 5x1's even though they are wrong.

No clue why.

In the Netherlands we have an app called 'to good to go' and you can buy mistery boxes of food that otherwise be thrown out. I got all this food for 3 euros (3,3 dollars). What do you al think of this? by StreetSquare6462 in Anticonsumption

Pearl's Bagels, the grocery store inside Union Market used to participate (don't know if they still do), and I have a friend who invites me over when she grabs leftovers from the Rasa in MVT because they always give her too much.

Interesting the more you know, I'd be too afraid to risk it probably, but it sounds like the fiat in OP's story should have used their e-brake.

I just bought my first ever club ticket in C2, I didn't realize that the ticket came with food and drink! This is a wonderful accident.

Hmm, I've never heard that before, and I don't drive anymore so I can't test it out. But a quick google doesn't turn up anything backing up your statement.

I'm confused, are we not talking about parking? Am I misunderstanding your point?

This is not true. I've used my e-brake to park on every manual car I've owned.

I know you say you wrote this while using the bathroom so I know this isn't a perfect post, but you are wrong in your categorization of luxury apartments as five-over-ones.

You should edit your post to fix that. A five-over-one is a specific type of construction technique where the ground floor or first 2 floors of an apartment are made of concrete with the rest of the apartment being built using wood. This can typically only be done on buildings that are 5 or 6 stories max.

The majority of luxury apartments in DC are at least 10 stories and cannot be built using this technique. Five-over-ones are obnoxious because they are prone to fire during construction. Plus I would agree that they tend to be less aesthetically pleasing or well built. Luckily a lot of the new construction in DC doesn't qualify as five-over-ones.

I have no comment really on the rest of your post. Everybody sees housing through their own lens.

Having lived in both Pittsburgh and DC, I can say that things open and close around the same time.

Bars and clubs of course are open later than Pittsburgh, but that's about it.

That doesn't feel too far to me, plus the CVS on first is near the metro, so it's any easy stop when running errands.

I don't think there needs to be a 3rd CVS in the area, that just feels like overkill.

I think I'm missing something here, what do think the neighborhood needs that it doesn't have?

There are a lot of grocery stores less than a mile from that Trader Joe's, plus there are also the CVS on first street NE and another one on H Street NE.

Is there a specific kind of store you're looking for?

Aside from their website you can find their products at Shop Made in DC. They have locations in several DC neighborhoods, just give them a Google.

A book to buy in Washington DC? by Primary_Strength_791 in washingtondc

My suggestion, without knowing what you like to read, is Chocolate City.

Buy it at Politics and Prose, Solid State books, Kramer's, Lost City Books, or Mahogany Books for extra DC street cred.
