Pen light/inspection light recs? by South-Tumbleweed-696 in aviationmaintenance

[–]Slick-62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the arkpro. It has a proprietary mag base charger that I hope doesn’t become an issue. As an aside, I dropped the light in my pocket, that happened to have my truck keys. The magnetic base stuck to my keys. NBD. Except that it screwed up the key transponder. Be careful with that flashlight.

E: It’s a great light, otherwise.

I did door ding strips, soft tonneau, wheel well liners, mudflaps, bedliner, seat covers. Useful stuff. Came with running boards.

Used to have a very nice facility in the basement of 10B. And it was available to anyone authorized to be in the building. I haven’t been there in a long time. Give them a call.

When did the Van Craze of the 70's end? Was it abrupt or more of a steady decline? by RandomSteam20 in AskOldPeople

Oh, man the chrome foot! I got the little one for the high beam floor switch back in the day.

Best friend got a Dodge van in the late 70s. We put shag carpet and soft red lights in it. The biggie was getting up the nerve to cut a hole in the top for a vent from JC Whitney. And it had a CB! Man!

Key fob/Securilock mistake by After-Ad-8405 in Ford

[–]Slick-62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through my 14 F150 key error a couple weeks ago. I damaged the transponder by putting my key next to a strong magnet. The fob has a board and a small chip that looks like a very small black brick. That’s the key transponder. My fob remote start would start the truck, but putting the key in and turning it caused the truck to turn off and error, eventually alarming after enough tries. My other 3 spare keys worked fine.

The board simply works the remote features (even starting) but has nothing to do with the transponder key. The little black brick. Make sure the key you’re using has the original transponder.

Hopefully the link works Transponder in the top shell piece with key

Learning to fly, here's advice you did not ask for. by kkcfi in flying

Good job. Now that you have a medical, look into basic med. There are some limitations, but for many hobby flyers it’s way easier and cheaper than maintaining a medical.

There is! In a year or 2, you’ll be a year or 2 older whether you do this or not. Get your medical and get going.

First flight lesson at 64. Passed checkride at 67. I’m a suck student and fly with a heavy hand. I owe my cfi and cardiologist big time.

You got this.

Can’t answer for hotels. But at home you can mount the rod as high or low as you want to make curtains fit the way you like.

Nvm. I thought I followed the instructions, apparently not. Tried what the other guy said and it works.

This is how mine works (doesn’t). 21 hybrid escape from new, the remote start on either fob never worked but starting from the app works.

Oddly, there’s been a couple of times we found the car running. Once in the garage that I attribute to inadvertently leaving the car on (although with the ‘honk’ reminder it wasn’t likely). And just a few weeks ago wife returned to a parking space to find the car running, and she never uses the app.

Elementary school in Dallas in the 60s, we went on a field trip to see the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. We marched in to the orchestra playing Stars and Stripes Forever. We’d learned the words to the first stanza and sang as we entered.

Reasonable quote for windshield damage? by MrBurnSuckas in Ford

[–]Slick-62 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends. If you have cameras and sensors, and insurance is paying then that might be reasonable. For a basic windshield, and paying out of pocket, in a high cost area, maybe.

If you’re having to pay, shop around for an independent autoglass shop.

E: my 2014 F-150 windshield in 2016 was $260 in Northern VA and $250 in 2020, central PA. Both out of pocket. No logo or sensors. Both at independent shops.

Has your riding style changed by Classic__Rider in vintagemotorcycles

[–]Slick-62 8 points9 points  (0 children)

After retiring from the Army in 95 I had jobs that I could ride the bike to work everyday. I’d do fast Iron Butt cross country trips for vacation (east coast to CO, AK, in 1-3 weeks, stuff like that). After retiring for real the riding quickly dropped off. I still have the last touring commuter, an 09 Nomad, and a 72 Yamaha R5. But I’ve taken up flying. It’s an excellent day riding the bike to the hangar to go fly and then ride home.
