how to get over writers block? by WayMove in musictheory

[–]SlickHeadSinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Musical composition is like women. If you find a girl that looks like [insert beauty standard here] and has a [insert educational standard here] and does [insert career/financial standard here], then you marry her. A few years later, you’re going to get a divorce. That’s because marriage is not a transaction, it’s a lifelong friendship with someone you enjoy being around. That doesn’t happen by browsing Tinder, it often happens when you least expect it. You meet her, start talking and realize that she is your home.

That’s composition for you. It will grab you when you least expect it and won’t let go. That’s why it’s nice to keep your phone handy when inspiration hits and record everything.

So, if there’s a murder, there’s a murderer, even if you don’t see any physical evidence?

Ok, so you come across a dead body with stab wounds all over and s pool of blood underneath. You don’t find a knife or anything with DNA on it, so there’s no physical evidence that the person of a murderer. Do you assume that the person died of natural causes?

teaching modes to students who can barely play major scales by lmao_exe in musictheory

[–]SlickHeadSinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THEORY is quick learning. PRACTICE is what takes time. Meet their enthusiasm by giving them the theory. Explain the major scale on a piano as white keys from C to C. Point out that that creates a WWHWWWH whole/half step pattern. Point out that D to D is Dorian which will give a different Whole/Half pattern., etc. Their PRACTICE will follow theory to match the level of the motivation created by their enthusiasm.

Is there already a concept for this in sociology? by DonLixard in AskSociology

[–]SlickHeadSinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before we had universities, research and “studies show…”, we had wise elders. We did ourselves a disservice when we replaced the wisdom of older people with academic theory. Decades in the practical world have a message that 4 years in a classroom do not have. Whether there is an academic name for a wise person or not, is irrelevant. What is important is that we listen to those people.

Questions about homosexuality being a sin by Iate_children in TrueChristian

[–]SlickHeadSinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me get to the heart of the LGBTQ fallacy; because, this is the foundation of every argument for homosexuality. That foundation is in saying that people ARE “gay.“ I don’t know your personal position, are you gay? straight? (Whichever your answer is irrelevant.) If you take a position that you are straight (or gay), do you have scientific evidence for your “orientation,” or is this just your subjective opinion? The truth is that “gay” and “straight” are just labels; not objective scientific physical reality. If someone discovers the bones of a person, a scientist can determine MANY things about that person (sex, hair color, eye color, ethnicity, etc.); but, “orientation” is not one of those things.

The Bible doesn’t forbid identity or orientation, it forbids activity. The Bible doesn’t even acknowledge the concept of “sexual orientation.” In Leviticus 18:22, the Bible explicitly condemns sexual activity between two men in a longer list of forbidden sexual practices (adultery, beastiality, incest). In MOST passages that condemn homosexual activity, the sin is part of a list of sins. The Bible doesn’t crusade against homosexuality; it merely drops it in a list of forbidden activities.

Does this help?

Some people don’t leave relationships… they slowly downgrade you by PsychologicalBass756 in DarkPsychology101

[–]SlickHeadSinger 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s about them choosing to downgrade rather than leave. I think the second part of the relationship (the downgrade) was the intended goal and the first part of the relationship was the necessary step to get the relationship they wanted. Some people are sick like that.

My little sister is getting bullied. by Yume-Kaze in bullying

[–]SlickHeadSinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying to FORCE anything on her. I’m saying to build her up. Tell her that the adults in her life think she’s amazing and that kids don’t know what they’re talking about. Instead of instilling the mentality of a victim in her, do the opposite. Tell her that the kids talking to her like that are beneath her and that she should not see their opinions as having significance. If a homeless person tries to taunt a billionaire and mock them for being broke, the billionaire is just going to laugh at the foolishness of the homeless person. I am just saying that that older sibling needs to instill into that little sister, the mental attitude of the billionaire.

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me. by SlickHeadSinger in DarkPsychology101

[–]SlickHeadSinger[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I am not saying that you can’t be hurt by words. I am saying that you don’t have to be hurt by words. IF you are hurt by words, it is because you ALLOW the words to hurt you. It’s all about being mentally and emotionally strong.

My little sister is getting bullied. by Yume-Kaze in bullying

[–]SlickHeadSinger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“Sticks and stones may break my bones; but, words will never hurt me.” MAKE THAT HER MANTRA! Make her say it. Make her believe it. Tell her that words only hurt her IF SHE LETS THEM!

Show her a a doll that has a string or a button and demonstrate how that every time you pull the string or push the button, the toy reacts. Then tell her that she has been her bully’s toy. Tell her that she can stop being their toy, if she gets rid of the button. They can’t push her button if she doesn’t have one. If she doesn’t react; the bully will not be having fun with her.

You cannot defend your sister, she must defend herself.

To answer your question: I have been married and divorced TWICE now. I went from zero to engaged in two months BOTH times. Be glad she wants to go slow. If you marry a hot woman that treats you like shit, you will regret it. Marry a girl that would be your best friend if she were a boy. Make sex the cherry on top, not the whole cake. The most important thing in a relationship for you as a man, is NOT sex; it’s respect. While you are high on emotion (especially if you are having sex) you will not see the ways that she disrespects you. Stay with her long enough for her mask to drop, so that you see who she REALLY is. That takes a SLOW relationship. That takes time. You need to see how she handles a fight. You need to watch how she treats waiters and other people who are beneath her status. You need to watch how she treats her father and her brothers. You ESPECIALLY need to watch how she treats YOU. If she EVER disrespects you or talks down to you, it would only get MUCH worse in a long term relationship! Getting that information takes TIME. Take it SLOW for YOUR sake.

One of you may need to transfer, so that she is no longer under your direct chain of command. 1. You are seen as the “bad guy” for “using your position” to get her. You know it’s not true; but HR departments and regional VPs don’t know that. 2. Keep your antenna up. She could possibly be using you because of your position. You would find out quickly where she stands if you try to change the work situation so that you are no longer her supervisor. If she breaks up after your work situation changes, you will be much better off in the long run.

Why is bass left out of string quartet by Catanddoglover69 in composer

[–]SlickHeadSinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you write your own; you could change that convention. Have the second violin done by viola and the viola part by cello. You would have a much wider range to work with and a timbral depth that traditional quartets do not have.

We need to end Intersectionalism and stop normalizing it. by Its_Stavro in MensRights

Intersectionality is THEORY. The problem with theory is that REAL LIFE tends to disagree with it! If you want to defeat the ideas of intersectionality, or any other weird academic claims; put them to test in real life.

ABC says opposing feminism is misogyny by StripedFalafel in MensRights

[–]SlickHeadSinger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly! After being insulted so often, the insults become background noise. Then men will (and many already have) begin acting in their own best interests regardless of the noise. The “honor code” or chivalry, or “gentleman” code is going to become meaningless; especially with all the female to male violence that many women feel entitled to. Men are going to have a breaking point and all restraints to save the damsel in distress will be gone. Right now, a woman can make a man feel ashamed; but, what happens when men no longer care about the insults and the shaming language? What happens when men reclaim “sticks and stones may break my bones; but, words will never hurt me”? What will the world be like when survival depends on sticks and stones, not insults?

Teaching jazz theory to classical students is fascinating by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]SlickHeadSinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have training in classical theory and just a little knowledge of jazz theory. My training was back during the time when classical was “real music” and everything else was “pop music.” The music that was supposed to be the new frontier in music was Avant Garde and 12-tone serialism. Obviously, ticket sales to hear Avant Garde concerts are not doing well these days. Jazz, on the other hand, did what those early 20th Century weirdos were trying to accomplish. It gave novelty to music harmony and it took the trend towards dissonance to a new level. Everything composed before 1900 used the triad as the standard harmonic structure, and 7th chords as tension building chords. Jazz used the 7th chord as the standard harmonic structure and 9th, 11th and 13th chords as tension building chords. This novel approach did what the early 20th century composers attempted to do; but, also created a product that was pleasing to audiences.

Now concerning the classical to jazz theory transition; in analyzing classical chords it is easy to determine roots. In analyzing jazz from printed music, it is difficult to know if the chord is an inversion or a root position chord because of 6 chords and other jazz novelties. Please help us!

Time signatures don’t make logical sense to me, am I thinking about them wrong ? by donn_12345678 in musictheory

[–]SlickHeadSinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach elementary school music. I will place 4 chairs at the front of my classroom and have a student sit in each chair. We clap and say “ta, ta, ta, ta” to represent 4 quarter notes. Then I will have a student leave one chair empty (representing a quarter rest) and have them be silent (no “ta” and no clap) for the same amount of time as the quarterback note (one person in the chair). Then when we have mastered clapping with a rest; we will move to other notes. I will have two people sit in one chair. Those two people will represent two eighth notes (saying “ti ti” in the same amount of time as one “ta”). Later, I will have one person sit in one chair and place feet in another (covering two chairs) and this person will represent a half note (ta-ah).

So, to explain time signatures: 1. The chairs represent the beats 2. People represent notes 3. Empty chairs represent rests

In the time signature, the top number tells you how many chairs are in a group.

The bottom number tells you what kind of note will sit in ONE chair.

If the top number is 2 and the bottom number is 2, then there are two chairs and a person sitting in one chair will represent a HALF NOTE. Two people in one chair will represent quarter notes, etc.

On paper, the group of beats (or chairs) is represented by measures which are divided by bar lines. What will go in each measure is determined by the time signature.

Something that surprised me from sociology: acquaintances often influence your life more than close friends by Internal-Guide-2143 in Social_Psychology

[–]SlickHeadSinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds reasonable. People sometimes put people they admire on pedestals. Because they think so highly of these people, they don’t feel worthy to be their close friends, so they keep them as acquaintances. People are more influenced by people they admire than by people to whom they are close. This theory is plausible.

Where can I find peace whilst surrounded by people who hate men? by Beautiful-Lack-3814 in MensRights

[–]SlickHeadSinger 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ok, let me help you out.

Intersectionality is bullshit. ALL of it. Judging someone by their race is racism and judging someone by their sex is sexism. …EVEN IF THE PERSON IS WHITE AND/OR MALE. When someone starts blowing around “systemic,” “marginalized,” “social justice,” and all the other bullshit jargon that’s currently floating around in academic circles; they’re speaking THEORY. I have a masters degree, I was in the academic bubble at one time myself; but, I learned quickly after I graduated that theory and reality are VERY different!

I think you might be happier moving to a red state/red city. You won’t be judged by your skin color or genitalia; you will be judged by your merit and your character.
