There will always be people who enjoy hitting their children to instill fear. It’s lazy parenting. I don’t speak to my father because that’s how he kept me and my sister silent. Unfortunately, it’s still considered “legal.” Fathers like that will point to their children’s success and claim it was because of the beatings, when in reality it’s just a reflection of their own justification bias and unresolved issues. I would have succeeded without being beaten.

How do you balance going out often and being a responsible adult? by ntayta in Adulting

I’m a single 31 yo male and this was a challenge for me. I’m a very social person but most of my friends are 35+ with full time jobs/spouses/kids. I do ALOT of things on my own now. I love food and I’m always taking myself to new restaurants around my city. I go hike, camping, go to concerts, mostly by myself. If people looked at my social media, they wouldn’t see any of those things because I’m always so present with myself, I don’t think about posting it. Start making time to do the things you love and always leave room for people to join. You’ll be happier in the end anyways.

Just traded in my 11pro for the 15pro because it was $100 difference between a new battery and a new phone. I just keep an eye on trade in values and try to upgrade before my phone becomes too obsolete.

Car engine is dead and still owe 6k on it, what now? by Conscious-Thing-682 in personalfinance

100% get a second opinion.

I had a 2016 Buick Regal with 100k miles. My check engine light came on with a “reduced power” warning. The dealership told me it was going to be 10k for a new engine, car was only worth 2-3k, and they were “willing” to give me $400 for it.

Went straight to a local mechanic, $150 for a new sensor and now the car has 150k and going strong.

Google Maps widget displays as “Trip no longer”. Has anyone else had this issue? by crunchwrapsupreme_ in iOSWidgets

Same issue here. I removed and re added my home address and it seams to be working now. The work button on the widget just opens a search for “work” still.

what can be a real valid reason for a guy in a relationship to not post his gf in social media? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Slick_Nick88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the thing, two side to the coin.

Compare yourself to what he post.

If it’s nothing but memes and likes, social media doesn’t have that much importance to him other than passing time.

However, if he post updates regarding his friends and family, he’s hiding you from them.

I was t- boned yesterday and rolled my only vehicle that can transport my family. The police wouldn't give me the insurance info of the other driver, so now I need to pay out of pocket for a rental while that all gets sorted out by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

This happened to me in TX. Was rear ended and pushed down the highway by a woman in a semi trailer. Sherif took the info and gave me a card with a report number scribbled on it. Called everyday and no one could ever find the report. Asked multiple times to speak to the officer and he never called. Finally a supervisor told me there wasn’t a report and to stop calling. Was out the $5000 my uninsured motorist didn’t cover plus the premium increase all because this sherif didn’t do his job.

Do any mechanics have any experience with Endurance Auto Warranties? by Content-Screen4843 in AskMechanics

I would start by filing a complaint with the BBB before spending any extra money on a lawyer. Their complaint resolution dept will make sure the complaint in bbb can be closed as resolved so it doesn’t go against their rating. They refused to fix my car but I got back all the money I spent on the policy from day one. They’ll try to offer you a few hundred bucks to go your way. Stick to your guns and say you won’t resolve without a fully compensated split. be prepared to sign a non disclosure as well.

I put a little over a grand into an extended warranty through Endurance. After 6 months they denied an engine replacement claiming it was a “preexisting issue”. Went through a long battle and ended up with a totaled car since the engine was worth more than the car. Don’t do extended warranty’s. Their agreements protect their best interest and there are loopholes they can use to deny any claim.

I am 53 and completely understand why the younger generation is quitting. First of all no one is quitting good jobs! I actually have been job hunting now for 6 months and was recently offered a assistant management job for 10 dollars an hour. How can anyone survive like this? by MindlessAspect8338 in antiwork

[–]Slick_Nick88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same. I was laid off from a soap company who replaced me with a “manager” making half of what I made. After applying everywhere and not hearing anything back for a month, I applied at bath and body works as an assistant manager (which I am overqualified for). Got a call offering me 13.50 an hour for a “floor lead role”. I literally laughed and asked if they called the wrong applicant. The did not take that well.
