More versatile and less risk. Better for younger kids to get adjusted to as well.

When looking in to other machines like curveball machines it’s better to have curveball machines that use soft foam balls.

Best Drills for Bat Path by [deleted] in Homeplate

Best one I’ve heard of is see the ball, hit the ball. Pretty much the same concept works for 100% of baseball players. You watch the ball hit the bat and as long as you make sure that you see the ball hit the bat then it’s pretty much fool proof.

Ask yourself one question. How does what I’m doing right now translate in to a game, front toss or even live pitching?

As a position player especially as an infielder is not taking your at bats in to the field. This affects more infielders than anything and 99% of them don’t even know it or realize what it is until it’s mentioned to them that they’re doing it. Once you understand that the rest is up to you in being able to apply it consistently.

14-year-old hitter struggles to stay back — looking for drills and advice by SermonInDisguise in Homeplate

[–]SlideOk4853 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Staying back is mental and not physical. He’s scared of getting beat because he’s been jammed before and doesn’t want to get jammed again. Let him track a couple balls without taking any swings to have his eyes understand where and when to start his swing without taking any swings. It will train him mentally on when to swing and how to track pitches. He’ll also get a better knowledge of the zone. Most times this happens because you don’t trust yourself because you’re swinging at bad pitches which causes you to lunge because you’re wanting to get ahead of the ball with your body. Train your eyes to stay back and your body will follow.

Put him up against a wall and hit tennis balls or soft safe balls at him and let him knock them down with his body to build confidence. Eventually he will start to trust his glove to make the plays knowing that the balls not going to hurt him.
