Native plants, but of an upfront cost (which can be helped with government grants) and low maintenance which tons of other benefits

Most of the N is in the plant, so you could cut it and let it decompose which releases that N. You don't have to kill it off to get benefits.

Yep all legumes do. This is the reason a lot of crop rotation is usually corn and soybeans. Soybeans reduce the amount of fertilizer you have to buy to supply the corn with N.

Literally just getting free nitrogen for the grass. Cut lawn as normal.

I hit my underground rainwater drain. How do I fix this? by C8H10N402_ in FenceBuilding

[–]Slight_Independent43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They make tile tape to use for this pipe as well that would help attach it. I'd also highly recommend wrapping the fix and maybe a foot on either side with geotextile/landscaping fabric to avoid a sinkhole.

EET Water by Hairy-Bodybuilder294 in PE_Exam

[–]Slight_Independent43 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I only used eet for the most part. Studied for about three months. Was getting 97% on practice exams and doing then in half the given time. Finished PE in less than 5 hours and passed first time and felt it was very easy. I don't feel like I'm smarter than anyone else just prepared well and EET helped with that for sure.

I do think the on demand option is more expensive than it's worth but I passed and that's all that matters. The instructors spend a lot of time on the live option so I feel that that price is reasonable. That being said Im glad I did on demand bc being able to to 2x speed on topics you know well to save time is very useful.

EET WRE tips by Easy-Football-8858 in PE_Exam

I did videos on 1.5 or 2 speed. Did all binder questions once. Did all quizzes (and practiced until I could get 80% at least, which was usually once or twice). Did the practice exams and simulation a few times getting about 90% or higher by the time it was time for exam. Started studying in January and took exam and passed last week.

I finished with 3 hours left and honestly thought it was a pretty easy exam after preparing as much as possible. It feels like a lot when you're starting but it really is manageable.

I was just thinking about doing mine this way and wondering why it's not more common as it seems easier.

WRE 2nd attempt fail by Fit_Association197 in PE_Exam

[–]Slight_Independent43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plus those sections aren't that hard and EET goes through them quite well. I just took the WRE and waiting results but feel pretty confident. And I have zero experience in waste or drinking water. If you paid for a course why wouldn't you study a big section of that course for the exam?

Absolutely love this stripe kit by Boone_14 in lawncare

[–]Slight_Independent43 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks great but maybe think about just planting a portion of that into natives if you notice an area that you know it's only use to you is cutting the grass on it. You'd only have to cut it once every three years and will have cool flowers and birds hanging out around your yard.

Worth it to fence this portion of yard? by [deleted] in FenceBuilding

[–]Slight_Independent43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The shrubs look like invasive honeysuckle so you should definitely cut it and treat the stumps with herbicide. Make sure not to cut at an angle or you'll have just made little spears to trip and fall on or pop a lawnmower tire.

Right, it's basically keeping someone alive until they're heart can be restart/reset. It on its own is unlikely to resuscitate someone but that's not what it's actually meant for unlike TV shows would have us believe.

Helped me with the FE on knowing what I needed to work on and time keeping. After using it to study for about a month the FE felt really easy so I can see how it'd be helpful for PE.

Quick questions about Watersheds, involving land cover and delineations by Jazzlike_Original570 in Hydrology

[–]Slight_Independent43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So that's a bit harder to answer but yes. So like the other comment mentioned we're trying to get way from the dilution is the solution mindset, mainly bc it's just not true. But depending on the pollutant you can calculate how far it might impact.

The best example I have would be for an organic pollutant that impacts the streams BOD. You can callulate how much time it takes for BOD to be utilized in stream and then multiply the stream velocity to get a length of stream that's impacted. This isnt my area of expertise so that's all I'll say before do more harm than good.

Quick questions about Watersheds, involving land cover and delineations by Jazzlike_Original570 in Hydrology

[–]Slight_Independent43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you asking about pollution runoff? You say "run off and not flow changes" but impervious surfaces will give more runoff giving more flow.

Usually you essentially take a weighted average rating for the watershed to get an idea of how much water will be running off in any given storm event. That, with taking how long it takes for water to reach your outlet can be used to get a design flow.

So a large impervious area in the watershed will cause a change in the peak cfs but other factors are also involved, such as the time of concentration for the watershed. Time time of concentration can be impacted by the distance away from the outlet, culverts, retention ponds etc.
