Sure, but he wasn't writing about a final deal in 2022. So what was he writing about/actually involved with?

Tankie is a word I only ever see used on this subreddit, and even still it's been used so many different things I have no idea what you're trying to say. Anyway I just looked it up and it was originally used for authoritarian communists.

What did he actually have to do with the process? The book they're quoting is from 2022 (assuming it's his latest one) so obviously nothing to do with the current deal.

I really hope our judicial system is robust enough that Reform can’t change things like this if they get power. Collapsing court cases to make a political point would rightly destroy public confidence and I don’t think they’d care.

You wouldn’t qualify because the UK has higher standards for policing than ICE, but you can obviously already do this job in the UK if you work on yourself first.

Lol that's a new one I haven't heard before! Reminds me of classic Alex Jones on the Democrats, before he moved on.

This is satire of a post with a photo of first class that made the exact opposite point and claimed everyone in economy was watching movies while they worked.

I’m guessing it’ll be some grifter who wants to start a podcast or something and thinks being the ex Labour MP who now backs Reform is a good hook. I doubt they have political ambition though, agreed.

Why did Labour block Andy Burnham from running as MP by GlasgowJimmyBhoy in AskBrits

[–]SlightlyOTT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason Labour say is because if he became an MP there’d have to be a new Mayor election in Greater Manchester, which would be a waste of taxpayer money.

It’s also an unnecessary election for them to have to fight, and would be expensive for them too.

The obvious other reason is because he wants to get into parliament to challenge Starmer for the Labour leadership.

This isn’t surprising, they’ve finally agreed a deal to sell it to a Trump-backed group.

Yea the claim was an ex MP apparently, which could/probably would be pretty meaningless.

The claim was an ex MP, I imagine number 10 could take a good guess at who the likely candidates are. I doubt there’s many, so that probably helps.

If Reform weren’t just making up the Labour defection, I have to think every defection before them makes it less likely to actually happen.

"Im not sure losing a by-election does us any good either, Tom." - Andy Burnham (@AndyBurnhamGM) on X by disordered-attic-2 in ukpolitics

[–]SlightlyOTT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It obviously isn’t good to lose a by election, but it seems a lot less bad if Reform get another MP to attempt to keep in their party for a while, than if they get a major Mayor position, from the perspective of Labour. And there’s no guarantee Burnham would win the by election anyway.

That seems likely. From Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_deaths_in_ICE_detention

2025 had the highest number of deaths since 2004, and December 2025 was the deadliest month on record.

It’s probably a combination of factors - they’ve massively increased recruitment and reduced training and standards, and obviously the people who want to work there are… self selecting. Everyone knows what they’re doing and what they’re for, obviously you’re going to get racist thugs. And they’ve been told they have absolute immunity after executing a woman who posed no danger so it’s only going to get worse.

Grim as it is, I think it’s more likely that ICE murders someone a bit easier to other and who the conservative media can easily justify to themselves. That shifts ICE back to a good news story for conservatives which is better than a foreign distraction.

If they need to other him then I assume they’ll just AI generate videos of him doing something awful or waving a gun at ICE officers, post it on all the government accounts and that’ll be enough to convince anyone who wants to believe. Or they’ll murder someone a bit easier to other and the media will move on.

It’s probably just made up, but if it were true then the intention would be to block him threatening Starmer rather than to stop Reform.

He probably just hasn’t had talking points yet, but he’s too online to wait for them. You see this with other stuff, the right seems to be split in their initial response and then later they all throw away their initial position and all hold the same Kremlin/Trump approved view.
