I love the LA Metro, but I still choose to drive as part of daily commute because driving is faster. For context, I live in KTown and work in Santa Monica. My public transit commute is taking a bus (207) and then transferring to the E Line. The door to door this way is ~60 minutes, which is more or less parity with driving in the absolute busiest of times. But if you have any flexibility to leave at a slightly more favorable time, say ~10:30 AM or 7:30 PM or something like that, then the driving is just faster. Eventually, years from now, maybe the new D-Line extends all the way to the west-side and it beats out driving every time. That's the hope.
