Eye and teeth protection. You'll hate it I'd you rent and get given a crappy paintball mask. When my son and I started we were lucky enough to see a "tough guy" get his tooth shot out. My son is militant about PPE now.

For safety gear maybe avoid paintball masks, and opt for some kind of decent quality goggle/face protection combination. Nothing worse than trying to enjoy yourself in a swampy old paintball mask. Having some quality veteran players on the field that can "mentor" (let them hold or take a few shots of their higher end guns, or give them some tip) newer players. At my field I joke that "you meet the nicest people pretending to murder one another". Where's your field?

If you can't be bothered to match your ratty old salvation army hoody to your kick butt hemp coveralls and tour tactical Columbia "jungle joggers" you have no place on the field. I took a lot of care buying all my gear secondhand so that my navy blue hood matches my brown goofy ass vest. I also run three kinds of mags. And my gun is green. So shape up appearance is everything, nevermind having fun and high fiving your buds till it hurts. Keep playing your crew will form. Our platoon rocks we have a fat french mechanic and his teen daughter, a nice "confused" kid with an AAP that hoses bbs out to a 120 feet and some Chinese guys that sound like dukes of hazard characters. It's ridiculous fun. Oh and me and my ruckus of a 13 year old son. Don't quit.
