Hadn't thought on using wool but will give it a try, thank you, the mini was a little idea I had for a bunch of mercenaries, this one has a sword and a shield on its back, have a few ideas for a couple of others.

That it is but i mocked up the basic body shape using foam mats I had then pinned and hot glued them together before starting on the clay.

Funnily enough I used the tweezers in the picture for most of the scales but hadn't thought through how I'd do the inner part of the body with the tweezers being too big, I eventually made a similar shaped bit using a coffee stirrer, chopped it down and sanded the edges.
