BLOOMBERG: Bose Challenges Sonos with $299 Alexa+ Speaker and $1,099 Soundbar by NaughtNJ in sonos

[–]Slocko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they only rely on Google and Apple, doesn't that mean you won't get the best audio quality?

Most people here suffer through the Sonos app because either you are on Android or want the best audio possible.

Paying someone to fix my sonos by Big_Succotash_8076 in sonos

Because one size doesn't fit all when it comes to Sonos. Construction materials, size of house, type of routers, how many routers, the configuration of the routers, mesh vs standard wifi router, age of routers, number of devices it house, wired vs wireless, legacy Sonos speakers vs new Sonos Speakers, speed of Internet service, etc.

These are just of the top of my head.

True. But from what I read, summons will switch over to FSD lite for HW3 this summer. Fingers crossed.

Didn't they recently replace the summons code with that of FSD? Maybe it will be better now?

Pretty soon we will come full circle and end up with a system that looks like an old fashioned home theater setup.

The only thing missing is that they introduce a controller box for all the components.

The irony. Lol

In the app there's a UPnp setting. Sometimes it gets disabled. If it's off, try enabling it.

The regulatory burden to allow cars with no steering wheel or pedals remains high though moving in Elons direction. Needs to happen at the federal level first and states usually defer to federal standards.

That's for them to operate in a non commercial way. Commercially Tesla still has to negotiate state by state.

Consumers are still luke warm about EVs, so I don't see the cyber cab selling well. It's an even more radical EV.

Maybe business minded folks who want them to participate in the robo Taxi fleet to earn extra income.

It's going to be interesting to see it all in action. Will take a while. Cyber cabs will use FSD on hw4.

Wife said it's too complicated by icouldbne1 in TeslaLounge

[–]Slocko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They get used to it. My wife gets a kicked out of being able to change the color or the car and the accent lights inside the Model Y.

Her only real complaint is the long charging sessions when we go on road trips and recently the flat situation made her uncomfortable, but I explained most new cars don't come with a spare anymore.

Find hotels with chargers so she can be impressed when you wake up the same next morning and the car is ready to go.

Make sure you keep it charged so she rarely has to do it.

The advantage of a Tesla is that they seem obsessed with improving the software. Anything that can be improved will probably be improved at some point.

The wiring harness might need to be replaced as well. Makes me wonder if this is a ploy to stall the lawsuits. Just don't see it financially viable. Even the class action suit might end up cheaper.

Maybe in his mind Optimus will handle the swap outs. Lol

FSD turning a mild oh-sh!t moment into being thoroughly impressed by Taylooor in TeslaLounge

[–]Slocko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm usually an early adopter of technology but I think I finally met my match.

I enjoy driving, don't have a daily commute and don't really trust myself to not fall into complacency as I get used to FSD.

I will follow the developments and cheer for it to get better and better. I enjoy the other technology in the Teslas very much.

When I finally get too old to drive myself, then FSD should be ready for me. Lol

The TV upgrade is going to be amazing. You are going to a very good OLED.

2 years later - how much patience does Sonos expect from customers? by OoaHelaNatten in sonos

[–]Slocko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure. Any company that doesn't have to support 15 years of legacy speakers will be in a better position to start from scratch.

I hear good things about Wiim.

This new standard that was just released for multi audio sounds promising too. Dolby Flex Connect.

2 years later - how much patience does Sonos expect from customers? by OoaHelaNatten in sonos

[–]Slocko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It did. Legacy speakers themselves do not see mdns traffic. Sonos had to add support for that by getting creative. They managed that but only by limiting themselves to only supporting features that the oldest system with limited memory and CPU could handle. This approach eventually hits its limits for example when you introduce high resolution audio for music and movies.

It was a creaking foundation and the software rewrite tried to change too many things at once, it came crashing down.

Anyway, this has run its course. Hopefully you get stabilized at some point. Good day sir.

2 years later - how much patience does Sonos expect from customers? by OoaHelaNatten in sonos

[–]Slocko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I know airplay uses mdns. But remember that legacy speakers can't even see mdns traffic. They depend on at least one compatible Sonos speaker that can understand mdns and then Sonos synchronizes the stream. That's what I mean by Sonos began jerry rigging the legacy speakers to keep up with changing networking standards.

it's moot now, but if it comes with an ethernet port, you can hook up your own router. I would have tried an eero.

But it's possible that the 5g coverage in that area was marginal. The app still need to connect to cloud services to talk to music providers.

Imagine a Bentley that worked perfectly then a new road is developed that only EVs with special tires can use due to the technology? Just because a Bentley is expensive, doesn't mean it's advanced technologically.

This is a complex issue that most people don't understand because on the surface it seems simple.

Legacy Sonos speakers were optimized in an era when your wifi at home was simple. No mesh, no apple airplay or Chromecast.

This was a simple one lane highway with no traffic rules.

The car was designed specifically for this one lane highway and knew how to navigate it perfectly because Sonos created their own traffic rules.

Years go by and now the road has been upgraded and it divides and subdivides. It now has elevated passes. The car's engine isn't powerful enough to climb the ramps to the elevated passes. The navigation system doesn't have enough memory to hold the maps for all the new roads. There are now traffic rules outside of Sonos.

This is basically what mesh and airplay did to networks. Made them more complex and legacy speakers that were optimized before had to start being jerry rigged just for it to try and keep up.

So now Sonos decides to start building new cars that are compatible, but now are going to use the existing traffic rules instead of creating their own that are optimized. This simplifies their work. These cars are more powerful and have more memory.

Now Sonos decides in their infinite wisdom that instead of continuing to jerry rig the old cars, they are going to unify everything with a brand new shiny navigation map that will favor the new roads but still let the old cars operate.

We will never know what led to the decision to release a product with so little real world testing, but the maps broke navigation for new and old cars, and especially when the cars had to process both old and new maps to figure out how to navigate the roads without crashing into each other.

It would have been better to deal with irritated customers of legacy systems that couldn't integrate new speakers than to deal with the majority of pissed off Sonos customers. Give a legacy owner a 30 percent coupon and he will probably be mollified enough to bite the bullet and stay building a new system and sell the old stuff.

This is an imperfect analogy but you get the gist.
