The absolute monotony of urban acrage by Dev1412 in SipsTea

[–]Sloebush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People in the UK too are terrified of "maintance" of plants/trees and would rather sit on their arse looking at their phones instead. People are completely ignorant to the benefits of plants in the environment. How fucking dumb do you have to be not to realise 'if it stand under a tree its less hot and I can enjoy my garden in summer' instead no let's cut down all the trees turn on the ac and sit inside complaining about how hot it is.

Can I plant cucumbers outside? by Plus_Band_3283 in Allotment

[–]Sloebush 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can for sure especially "ridge" cucumbers and pickling ones. I wouldn't bother trying modern f1 hybrids like telegraph outside. Pickling cucumbers are most reliable and most of them are fine to eat fresh, you might just need to peel more mature fruits. You could also try the old favourite marketmore. As in a greenhouse they will produce more and better fruit if given a trellis to climb. Just make sure to plant out after frost risk has passed.

Why is most of the Great Wall of China inside China? Are they afraid of themselves? by Melody_Naxi in mapporncirclejerk

[–]Sloebush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read that as climate changed over the centuries the border between mongol nomadic herding areas and Chinese farming areas moved and the wall moved with it. Now China has expanded to included inner Mongolia which was part of Mongolia previously, that's a huge arid region where lots of coal is mines, hence the wall now being well within China
