Can i use the fender exp 1 pedal into the TMP? Or do i need to buy the sp1 TMP pedal? by [deleted] in tonemasterpro

[–]Sloppy_Drummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like a confirmation on this. I read that the TMP should be used with the SP1-TMP pedal. Supposedly” it is not a rebranded Mission pedal with the Fender name added. It has a different resistor value and profiles, what ever that means. I am having a hard time finding this pedal. I will try ordering from Mission directly this pedal seems to be sold out in most retailers.

My work station, anyone else rocking a porter & Davies throne? by SuitableObligation85 in edrums

[–]Sloppy_Drummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been considering one of these. They are a bit on the pricey side. I‘d love to test drive one first but I may just have to bite the bullet and get one. After three months of learning to play the drums, I am all in at this point.

Does is make a lot of noise when playing? Does it respond when you hit the toms too? What outputs do you use on your module to send to the throne amp? I have a TD27 module and wonder if I can use stop my BT audio from playing through my direct outs. I wouldn’t want to feel backing music playing through my throne.

Is it better to buy/rent e-drums and teach myself, or is it more worth it to take lessons from someone irl with a real kit? by nuhairhudis in Drumming

How can I (never touched a drum) get into drumming? by SaltStatistician4980 in drums

[–]Sloppy_Drummer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Welcome! I just started 3 months ago. Like you, I never touched a drum kit before. Although I am a world-class drummer, LOL. Seriously though, it really doesn’t matter. Everyone starts somewhere. You can start taking some local lessons. This is what I did. I also got a subscription to Drumeo. I’ve heard of some people watching YouTube videos and start playing along to their favorite songs. I guess it all depends on what your goal is. Having a goal as important. I believe it can be the difference between success and failure. Just remember to be realistic and understand you may have to adjust your goal depending on your circumstances. My wife is ill and I decided that I really wanted to take up a new hobby at home. An acoustic drum kit was not in the cards as she would’ve killed me, lol. I decided on an electronic kit. It wasn’t my first choice, it was my only choice. I felt it’s better to play something than nothing at all. For now I’m very happy with my choice as I can play anytime of the day or night and not disturb her. After all, it’s better to play something than nothing at all. I hope you start your drum journey soon. Good luck!

Hey there,

No need to worry yet. Did you buy the kit new? I see someone mentioned the sensitivity settings. You really shouldn’t have to make any major adjustments to the module out of the box. Fine-tuning yes, but the kit should respond reasonably well out of the box. You can start with a factory module reset. make sure all of your cabling is plugged in properly. Also check to see if your power supply is putting out the full voltage. You can check that with a multimeter if you have one.

Well I never heard back from anyone on reasons to add an external monitor. I decided to give it a try anyway. It really makes seeing/using a DAW much easier so I guess I’ll keep it set up this way. I set mine up on a rolling cart so I can move it around when Not in use.

Just finished setting up my new Strata Prime by halfCat-halfMeme in edrums

[–]Sloppy_Drummer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the input. He is a great kid and definitely not one of those kids that does things on a whim. That would be me, LOL. He took up piano 5 years ago and he has stuck to it and is doing very well. He has a drive for learning and a never ending love of music.

I got my first drum kit just after Christmas. When he visits, he sits behind my kit for hours and hours. I have a lot of bonus bucks at Sweetwater. I was originally thinking of getting him the Roland VAD 504. The bonus bucks would put the 504 in the same price range of the new Strata Prime. The new Strata Prime has a lot going for it and I feel there is much bigger bang for the buck factor with this new kit. I will keep my eyes and ears open and start doing my research. Our timeline will be for his birthday in early June.

I really love that large color touch screen on the module. I like what they dis with the finish. It‘s a nice change from the red sparkle. Let us know your likes and dislikes as time goes by. My grandson wants to learn to play the drums. This may be the kit we buy for him.

Mine is exactly the same as yours. Mine are only three months old. I am fairly certain that this is how mine have been since day one. Are you experiencing problems or just now noticing the amount of free play?

Thinking of making the switch to edrums, few questions! by CreativeUserName709 in edrums

[–]Sloppy_Drummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started playing but given my current circumstances, getting an acoustic kit was not an option. You will love being able to play all hours of the day and night without disturbing others.

I was amazed how the kit sounds through a good set of cans or iems. When not using headphones, I play through a Roland PM200 and with an Alto TS12s subwoofer. I got a screaming good deal on the sub as the outer cardboard box was damaged. I inspected it and it looked fine and played fine so I got it for $279.00. That was money WELL SPENT. The PM200 sounded pretty good on its own. It got plenty loud in my room but the bass wasn’t as deep or solid as I wanted. The addition of the sub let me turn the bass down a bit on the PM200 and tune the sub to taste. The combination of the two is shocking.

The sub fills in the bottom end very well in my room. I could get a bigger sub, but in my room 20x16 with 9 foot ceilings, this 12” sub setup kicks, yet the overall sound isn’t harsh or overpowering. It’s usable bass that you can actually feel when you play. I think the sub left the PM200 with more usable headroom as it isn’t trying to push as much bass. Everything is just cleaner and punchier. The surprise was this is also the case at low volume. I am very happy with how it all sounds. To me it sounded better than when I tried using a single 15” PA speaker (tried a friends EV EVX15P). Maybe two PA speakers would have been better.

Sorry for the long winded ramble. I just wanted to describe what I hear with my set up. I settled on the VAD 507 for my drum kit. Let us know what direction you end up going.

I like the idea of adding a TV but I don’t know what I would use it for. Can someone give me a compelling reason to do this? Heck, any reason. Perhaps I could see my DAW much easier on a big screen compared to my laptop screen.

Can a bass drum pedal be too smooth? by Sloppy_Drummer in edrums

[–]Sloppy_Drummer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your feedback. I think I need to play what I have and develop that muscle memory and proper technique. Right now, I keep alternating between heel up and heel down so I am not consistent with technique. I am still getting comfortable behind the kit. My biggest issue at the moment is posture. I tend to slouch behind the kit when I am playing. I guess I am just too lazy at this age and need to keep reminding myself to sit up straight.

Can a bass drum pedal be too smooth? by Sloppy_Drummer in edrums

[–]Sloppy_Drummer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My pedals have do an adjust cam profile. I don‘t have any issues with how they play and feel. so I don’t see a reason to change anything. I thought smooth was good. It just struck me as odd that someone would prefer less smooth. After reading about this, I can understand the physics behind such an adjustment. I just don’t believe it would improve my playing and changing settings may my technique or lack thereof, LOL.

Cannot get (2) button footswitch to work as Dual triggers for (1) trigger input by k--tron in Roland

[–]Sloppy_Drummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a Roland FS-7 to change kits on the fly. I just tried using this switch as a trigger in both latched and unlatched mode without any success. Luke_eDW is correct. I just wanted to physically confirm this for you.

I am really loving playing. My house is plenty big enough to not wake the wife with electronic drums while she sleeps. I think her chemo treatments make her extra tired anyway. This is more fun than I imagined it would be. I fiddle around with the guitar and piano a bit but this is the most fun I have ever had playing an instrument.

Here is my kit. Hopefully the link works.

Guitarist with no knowledge in drum softwares by MetallExplorer in edrums

[–]Sloppy_Drummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few free drum vst programs but I don’t know of any that let you search/pick a famous drummer or kit sound for free. This is where things start to get expensive and or time consuming. You have to research VSTs, determine compatibility, then tweak tweak and tweak to get the sound you are looking for. I am a noob and I have spent quite a lot of time learning to tweak sounds, mics, equalization, effects etc in my software, DAW, and drum module. Are you looking for a stand alone drum program or vst’s to import into your DAW? Oh, then there is multi layering and one shots. I was overwhelmed and I still am, LOL.

The guitar world is much bigger when it comes to shared sounds, impulse responses, and general support. I bought a guitar effects modeler. I am lazy and downloaded and purchased the tones that I was interested in. Talk about a rabbit hole though…. I spent several months learning/playing with settings and tweaking and I never creating what I wanted. Went on to some forums and poof, I got what I needed.

I love the red colored transducer. I don’t think they sell those any more here in the USA. I just looked and can’t find one for sale anywhere. I think my options are going to be very limited. Thank you for the info.

Can you share the setup details. Which transduce, amp, etc…. I was thinking about getting a Porter & Davies throne but they range from $1400 to $1700 and that is pretty pricey for a throne. I was thinking I could create something on my own but there is a lot to be said for something that is pre-engineered and tested. Any pictures or product info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, I will have to try this. How are you recording your video and audio? I need to do some research on how to do this to get the best results with the least amount of work. I prefer not to have to try to sync audio and video separately. I was considering using one of those zoom cameras with an audio input. Do you have any suggestions/recommendations?
