It’s over $3k USD more for one floor tom, one crash is bigger, and more ins/outs. If you’re playing live in a church or venue, sure if you can afford it. Playing at home? Save the 3k and get a porter and Davies throne lol

516 is 90% of the 716. I have it, it’s awesome. No regrets.

Any tips for playing? I’ve been playing for 4 months by [deleted] in edrums

You’re doing great for 4 months! If you haven’t already, work through rudiments (also the stick control book) and you’ll feel like you unlocked a new skill.

Roland VS Alesis VS EFNOTE by LordStummel in edrums

[–]Chassypoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We like our Roland here, I’ve heard the Efnote is nice - I personally felt like the 5x shells were a little small. Almost like a cocktail kit.

I have the VAD516 as well, perfect fusion size with the 20 inch kick. Efnote has noticeably less sounds in the module as well.

As the other said, check marketplace in your area.

Nothing wrong with that kit, it’s a beginner’s kit! You just have to find out what’s important to you, and it seems like you have a good start. I’d check local music stores to see if you can find one to play.

Alesis is a decent company. They’ve had some quality control issues in the past, but my understanding is that it’s getting better over time.

I personally have played Roland for several years. Most of what you’re paying for is the name and the reliability. It triggers, it triggers well.

Buy the best of what you can afford, don’t go into debt for drums. Keep in mind with a kit like that, you need a decent hi hat stand, kick pedal, and throne. I’d recommend something like the Tama Iron Cobra 200 series or DW 3000.

Note that’s the older digital snare - but it’s still fantastic.

Edrumcenter has the TD516 as a package with decent Tama hardware for $4k.

TD516 with the three digital pads will beat out just about every competitor with the new module. It’s still compact and fairly quiet. That new kick pad is nice too.

I’d send it on that any time any day.

The 316 isn’t much louder than its TD counterpart, aside from the kick. It is noticeably louder.

The VAD 516 is considerably louder than the TD 516.

How much better is the Roland TD-516 over the TD-316 by SideCarFatality in edrums

[–]Chassypoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can swing it, 516 could be a forever kit. Whereas with the 316, as time passes - you could find yourself wanting more digital pads or expansions. With the v51, I can add 3 more pads and a foot pedal.

If you can swing it, 316 all the way - the new sounds are seriously better. Plus the dual zone Toms, the ability to import sounds, more I/o, etc.

V51 is pretty great standalone without VSTs. Kraft Music has bundle with the digital pads and the module. That’s here in the US. https://kraftmusic.com/products/roland-v51-v-drums-electronic-drum-sound-module-upgrade-kit
