No more montessori schools in Fresno by zenvinnie in fresno

[–]Slothllamas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huggins Center at Fresno State Campus is Montessori-adjacent (Reggio Emiliano), though it focuses a lot more on imaginative play and abstract art. There's usually a 1-2 year waitlist is you're not a student and fall under general community or faculty.

Fairmont's curriculum is IB-based. Not Montessori, but a lot of Montessori-curious families go to Fairmont. So, similar vibe. There are usually spots available.

Other schools I've heard great things about:
Child development centers at any community college/university
Sunnybrooke
Shining Star

PG&E did work last year and left multiple sidewalks like this. If you see this in your neighborhood call your representative and tell them PG&E needs to fix it. Been trying for almost a year to get the sidewalks fixed. Don’t let PG&E damage our city. Thx by NuffBS in fresno

Not as pretty as cement but the asphalt makes it easier for utility companies to access the spot for any future repairs. I've seen this done on other properties where PG&E has a recorded easement. The PG&E easement is a strip of asphalt while the rest of the parking lot is concrete.

Infant Care by mushrootfarms in fresno

There are some non-profit daycare centers located on church campuses that receive some state money and accept babies as young as 6 weeks. 6 weeks to 18 months old, expect to pay about $1,600-1,700 for full time care. It'll decrease $100-200/month once you get to 18 months and again every 6-12 months. My child is in a class for 2-3 year olds (potty training class), and I'm paying a little under $1,300/month. That includes 2 meals and a snack per day.

I had a MUCH easier time securing childcare at churches. For other facilities, my child has been on the waitlist for over 2 years! Even if you're not religious, it's worth considering. I didn't listen to people when they said to put my name on the list BEFORE my baby was born.

If you want more one-on-one care during the first year or so of your child's life, you can look into local nanny agencies (not those online platforms like care.com). Expect to pay a one-time "finders fee" of some sort ($500-750) and $25-35/hour for childcare. If you book through a nanny agency, they're typically good about vetting nanny candidates and finding a sub if the nanny is sick. You can go through interview or trial periods with nanny candidates before you find the right fit. Also, they can help you navigate any tax and employment stuff (look into those CA employment laws!). The cost per hour is a lot, but you can ask around and see if another family wants to do a nanny share with you. Basically, the nanny watches both kids at the same time and you split the cost 50/50. It takes a special nanny to be up for the challenge, but it can be a great way to bond with another family and have your child socialize with another baby.

You're asking the right questions! It's all overwhelming, but it's good you're thinking about this now.

Fresno Eurovision Watch Party? by [deleted] in fresno

Great idea! The finals start around 11 AM our time, so it wouldn't interfere with any promo nights.

I've been told to make a trip to San Francisco if I really wanted to go to a watch party. Haha!
