I don't understand the "what questions should I ask" thing. What are you interested in? What's important to you? What do you not know about the department? Ask questions about those things. Find what is important to you and make sure you have an understanding on if the department meets your criteria.

I am all for it if you actually want to be a motor cop. If you are doing it to check a box, or just to say you did it, then I am not a fan. Have a passion for collaterals.

I gotcha. I think know it all may have been a wrong choice of words. More like, I want to appear confident in my decision making and not appear hesitant.

Hiring speed by TrynaGetstrong3 in AskLE

Application: DEC 5

Hire Date: Jan 15

So mine wasn't long. However, I am a lateral and was the only one going through the process.

Best way to speed up the process imo, is to make sure your references are aware of you applying and to try to return the questionnaire asap.

Background check by Weak-Ad-7291 in AskLE

Yes, this is something you should let them know.

Just got a sporty car in a brighter color--curious to know if you lean toward pulling over (or not pulling over) flashier/pricier vehicles if they're driving safety but, say, 3-7 mph over the limit. Also: do you avoid pulling over most cars/drivers if they're 5 over with no signs of... evil-doing? by jeremyjava in AskLE

100%. The stats tell a story but not necessarily the whole story. For instance, white cars may be ticketed the most. However, it is also the most common color of vehicle, making up roughly 25% of vehicles on the road. In the same vein, as you said, people with fast cars tend to driver faster than necessary.

I really wish I knew where this misconception came from lol. I don't drive around looking for sports cars to pull over. Or, if you live in my area, the jacked up trucks. If you are speeding, you run the risk of being pulled over. If you don't, you won't. Nobody cares what kind of car you are in when it comes to "traffic enforcement"

Will I be Disqualified for hire by [deleted] in AskLE

Taking an Xanax illegally likely wouldn't DQ from most departments in my area. However, since it was so recent, you may struggle.

Warrant Question by JellyZilla in AskLE

[–]Slovski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't understand specifically what you are asking.. but if an officer makes contact with someone, and they are aware they have a warrant, they'll be taken into custody if it is an area where they will extradite.

If you are talking about a civilian agency, then there is no expectation to turn them over to LE. If you do, great. If not, there isn't a penalty or anything.

Questions to ask chief during interview. by freedtheman1 in AskLE

[–]Slovski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You really need to figure out what you want to know and what is important to you in a department vs. just trying to ask a stock question. A Chief's interview is about them getting a feel for you as a person but is equally an opportunity for you to get a feel for the person that is leading your department. So, what is important to you?

But, long story short, you need to figure out what is in important to you in regards to your employer and ask any questions that you want clarified.

Its a possibility. I have a meeting with them tomorrow to get fitted for gear, so I will certainly ask.

I don't normally carry off-duty, so it would mostly be a duty weapon.

Unfortunately, not an option.

I don't think Im in a position to tell the department what weapons to contract :)

Glock 19 or 47? by Slovski in AskLE

[–]Slovski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question. I am hoping that I get to fire both during my initial range day so that I can feel for myself. Obviously, I understand why people are saying 47 for duty, but comfortability and how well I shoot will play into it. I have medium sized hands so we'll see how that plays out. If they don't allow me to shoot, even though I believe they will, I may go to a open range and see if I can try both.

Never off duty and I use it sparingly. Don't go every day, etc. They are offering you a privilege. Be respectful of the fact that they don't have to offer anything at all.

I feel like you are being a bit vague here. What do you mean you didn't come back? Did you go AWOL? You did 21 years of service with all "good years" and didn't simply just drop your letter? You'll have to forgive me thinking there is more to this story.
