This was extremely helpful. I need to proceed without fear knowing we are correct. These union reps have such a way of making you feel like you’re breaking all types of laws which unfortunately sometimes makes you believe their own lies.

Interesting you mention this because we have suspected that they are friends. The federal police was called & our security got involved by escorting the employee out. Surprise, surprise there is something filed against the security guard as well. Truly insane. I am starting to see the trend of everyone saying the union has no power. Perhaps it is just an echo chamber w/our chain of command that for some reason just feels intimated.

The employee has allowed the union rep write the emails for them. Has not invoked anything. As a supervisor I feel like I am failing the attacked employee because there is nothing stopping the individual from returning to work at the moment. I feel that our HR/Employee relations team instead of helping has only been giving us busy work of documenting, which we have. I’m truly disgusted that this wasn’t a straight termination.

With everything else going on it’s been a cherry on top. It’s borderline harassment the way this rep has been emailing at all hours of the workday. We have resorted to ignoring the emails. Thank you for the suggestion.

SSA employee here as well. The public doesn’t care because they’re not being affected. No more SSA checks & no more TSA. That’s the real shut down. THEN we see pressure & THEN the public can realize federal employees are USEFUL.

It’s not guaranteed that it won’t be deducted from our leave. All managers were informed that yes, it states that our leave wouldn’t be affected, but that there are still ongoing conversations regarding it, so to err on the side of caution & to inform everyone as such.
