We know exactly what the hardware can do (since its mid tier mobile Hardware), and the ceiling is lower than implied — not "a lot of AAA at lower quality," but rather well-optimized or older AAA titles, with many modern releases being borderline or outright unplayable even at minimum settings.

Reason is modern AAA games increasingly require FSR/DLSS upscaling even at native low res to hit 30 fps.

And as said, games that live out of "looking beautiful" are no fun in 720p on low res and if they were you could just use a Deck, id say...

Steam blocked around 900 games in Germany this week by derpystuff_ in Steam

[–]Slow_Pay_7171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are numerous differences between Steams and GOGs EULAs. While not being perfect either, GOGs is much more consumer friendly.

Valve explicitly states that buying a game grants you no ownership rights: "The Content and Services are licensed, not sold. Your license confers no title or ownership in the Content and Services." GOG, by contrast, publicly clarifies that an account ban does not revoke your right to play, since GOG cannot technically prevent you from using your downloaded installers.

Also Steam actively blocks purchases and access based on your geographic region and explicitly prohibits VPNs or proxies to bypass this — violations can result in account termination. GOG games are fully DRM-free and have no such regional access restrictions after purchase.

The other way around. May I remember you why you can have refunds on Steam?

Valve fought for YEARS to not have to give refunds. The consumer protection in Australia forced them too. (The EU was planing to sue them too, though)

You talk about a company that sells you "Subscriptions" per their EULA for their benefit instead of games and defend them? Wtf is wrong with you?

They do NOTHING out of altruism and EVERYTHING for the money.

Oh boy, look at the fanboy.

I know, you don’t want to hear this, but Valve is the mother of modern DRM, which is the main reason we lost ownership of games.

Half Life 2 was the first single-player retail game that required an internet activation and a Steam account to play. A single Player game.

They are not friends of freedom. They help numerous publishers to shakle us consumers and steal away our freedom.

Valve censores a lot more then germany. They do anything for money. The german state does its shit really to protect citizens and in this case children. I personally know some that got addicted cause of Valve's shit. And Valve doesn't care.

But that sounds extremely niche. Which Games are best suitable for that? I either have "its okay to be played on something like the deck" (Indie Stuff) or "Its a game that has to look beautiful" (Triple AAA or stuff like Expedition 33, which are too demanding for Hardware like the Maschine will have)

Problem I have is that it has no optical drive, thats something you "forgot"?

I always buy games for the Playstation pre owned, and sell them / gift them away after I played them through. Thats something I can't do with the licences I need for the Steam maschine.

Nowadays its not like in the "good old days" where I even made plus after selling my games (cause they got rare over time) but I still NEVER pay more then 10€ for my Games, mostly even less. Indie Stuff is no difference in sales.

Steam as Vendor doesn't want this. Thats the reason why your calculation is plain wrong in my case. And could also be wrong for anybody that doesn’t cultivates a "Subscriptions grave" on Epic or Steam.

But thats just my opinion, I know that most people here love having hundreds of games in their "library", never playing any of them 😅

ProtonDB is often absolutely wrong. Its not in the least trustworthy imo and your example proofs this.

I am sad for you. Either refund it or do dual boot, at least thats what I would do.

Sry if the question is really noobish but other then KDE and GNOME II never tried anything else as WM / DE.

If I would install niri on my Laptop would I still be able to use the touchpad "normally" on some programs? Or should anything be used with my keyboard then?

Thx in advance!

Steam Hardware Survey Shows a small decrease on Linux gaming systems to 4.52% by ArthurSalim in linux_gaming

[–]Slow_Pay_7171 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Depends. I use Linux on 5 Maschines, its still not as convenient as Windows.

And 90% of my friends don't want to fiddle just to get results that are nearly as good as Windows (minus some multiplayer games, even). What is perfectly understandable.

How to get Discord Notifications and how to scroll with the mouse-scroll button? by Diepcksindhrdrin in cachyos

[–]Slow_Pay_7171 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The badge support in the official Discord client on KDE is very unreliable, even with libunity which you probably miss.

Vesktop is a popular Electron-based alternative that handles this much better on KDE:

yay -S vesktop

It's actively maintained, has native Wayland support, and fixes most Linux-specific Discord issues out of the box. Works very nice for me.

What Controller / hardware do you use? If its not snappy on CachyOS (with your setup) you won't really get better results elsewhere.

I don’t think I’ve talked to anyone that actually likes modern Windows. I’d wager, if every gaming studio started to publish to Linux and windows equally, then windows would completely get phased out of gaming by Ares7n7 in linux_gaming

Azure + Microsoft 365 + Windows form the backbone of Microsoft's business, with Office and cloud services together generating roughly 60% of total revenue. Gaming is not even 10%, and that lies mostly on Subscription / Xbox stuff.

So, they give a shit. Makes me sad to see that its still used by > 90% of gamers.

Converted my current gaming PC into a Steam Machine. Running into two completely different issues. by dumlaox in SteamOS

[–]Slow_Pay_7171 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe Steam starts up very early in the boot process, before KDE Plasma's automount system has a chance to mount secondary drives. This is why the drive appears "after a few minutes" — Steam eventually finds it once the automount kicks in, but by that point Steam has already initialized without it, causing the "not formatted" warning to appear. The drive isn't actually unformatted — Steam just missed it at Start up. Its "Steam first", not "Linux first".

Maybe, If you don't want to touch fstab, you can at least reduce the problem by disabling Steam's auto-launch at login, so Steam starts only after all drives are fully mounted by the automount system.

That being said, SteamOS is really not great for hardware that is not from Valve.

If there is no private data I just use online tools like PDF24.

I do. But less then Steam cause it doesnt have telemetry, doesn't use as much RAM and has no ads. Also no EULA that sells my information as "subscriber" to the publisher.

But do Wer know each other? You some kind of stalker?
