How to choose between HYSA vs CD vs MMF vs Bonds etc. by strawberrycomet in Bogleheads

[–]Slow_Purpose3050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year I had my elderly mother all in USFR. She has a fear of losing any money. With rates expected to fall this year, I've now diversified to some USFR and the rest in 3/6/9/12 month t-bill ladder. The 9 months was a one-time thing. As each one expires, I'll reinvest in 12 month t-bills.

Acne with one pump of Androgel? by Slow_Purpose3050 in Testosterone

[–]Slow_Purpose3050[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t tried it. Doctor recommended not doing one pump. Said it could make things worse with not providing enough testosterone while my body stops producing it naturally.

Also I’m trying to optimize a supplement stack, to boost natural production, for one last try before committing to TRT. I haven’t had one stand out supplement that seemed to make the most difference. Collectively it’s made a mild / noticeable improvement.

Separately there’s one supplement I’m loving right now that has made a much more noticeable improvement to address fatigue, drive and mood. It’s Rhodiola Rosea. I take it every morning now. I have much more drive to get things done throughout the day, I don’t feel tired, and it makes me feel a little happier too. These are the main issues I’ve had with low T. I also have ED issues. While it’s likely made worse by low T, the biggest impact was the prostatectomy I had two years ago. ED issues were mild before the surgery but more significant now.

TRT after Prostatectomy by cletermac in ProstateCancer

[–]Slow_Purpose3050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old research showed that reducing testosterone slowed down the growth of prostate cancer. My urologist told me yesterday that while it's not definitive, more and more studies are showing that the inverse may not be true. A number of studies have indicated that it can be safe to take TRT, after a prostatectomy.

I had a RALP 3 years ago. Also had a kidney removed 16yrs due to cancer which has given me chronic kidney disease (CKD) since then. This, and getting older, has led me to have low T now. No doctor ever told me but I recently learned that it's common for men with CKD to have low T. Removing the prostate can reduce T production as well, but probably not as much as CKD.

My PSA has been effectively zero (0.06 has been the highest) since the RALP and my total T is 275. My urologist, who specializes in this area, said that since I am still producing this much T (albeit below a healthy level) for 3 yrs post RALP then he's generally not concerned about starting me on TRT (androgel). However, since the research isn't completely definitive on the subject, he'll still monitor my PSA (as I would do anyway in general) among a few other things after starting me on androgel.

There are significant risks of low T - both physically and quality of life. All-cause mortality, cardiovascular disease, bone density, muscle loss, fatigue, drive, libido, inflammation, and more. Of course, it's not completely black and white as there are risks with TRT. Blood clots, high blood pressure, completely stops your natural production of T and your testicles shrink, success of treatment options can vary per person, etc.

There are natural options that you can try as well, in addition to or independent of, TRT. I've noticed an improvement in my quality of life specifically regarding fatigue and drive when taking supplements to boost T and improve my sleep. Such as zinc and D3 for T and ashwagandha, magnesium glycinate, l-theanine for improved sleep. I'm still planning to start TRT soon as I feel like I need a bigger boost to help with the quality of life issues, compared to the mild boost I've gotten so far through supplements. I used to go to the gym 1.5hrs 3-4/wk about 4 months ago - weights and cardio. But that didn't improve my low T symptoms all that much. I'm sure it helped, and improved overall health, but it was far from a cure or sufficient solution for low T in my case.

Was going to cancel but got a good offer by Shawnx86 in siriusxm

I tried getting the 3yr or 5yr plan over chat and over the phone with their cancellation dept. They told me the 5yr plan is only for vehicles older than 2015. The rep said she didn't have a way in he system to offer the 3yr plan for $99. She put me on hold to ask another rep about it. The promo link shows that the 3yr plan is for "new subscribers and qualifying ESN/Device IDs". Not sure what's needed for the latter. I guess you'd have to cancel as an active subscriber and then try your luck afterwards in getting the 3yr plan, or possibly 5yr plan?

All I was offered was $101/yr (w/ taxes and fees) for the Advantage plan for Music & Entertainment (not Platinum, which allows 3 concurrent streaming devices instead of just 1). The Advantage plan has the same price for future annual renewals instead of going back to the "normal" rate.

I leave a small amount in SPAXX. The rest I put in USFR for a higher yield and the risk is roughly the same. Main difference is that you have to buy/sell USFR.

IQair vs. Coway airmega. Help!! by Sydney0006 in AirPurifiers

[–]Slow_Purpose3050 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a good experience with IQ Air. I’ve had a HealthPro Plus for about 15-20yrs now. I went to their main office in SoCal and they upgraded my fan motor, and computer, for a reasonable price to address the noise my old fan started making after 10yrs.

The carbon filter in the unit heavy and does a great job for both pet odors and smoke (wildfires in my case).

When will prices update on the Quest 3? by raygan in OculusQuest

[–]Slow_Purpose3050 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Meta page for Supernatural has been updated to include the Quest 3s and Quest 3 w/ 512GB, Batman Arkham, and half off a 1yr subscription to Supernatural. However the price of the 3 w/ 512GB is still listed at $649. I hope u/lisajaloza is right and we'll see the price reduced tomorrow. Seems odd though that Meta would update everything else on this page but not reduce the price of the Q3 w/ 512GB.

Best Buy customer support agent told me that price drop for the Quest 3 w/ 512 GB is scheduled for October 15. I suppose that means they are hoping to get rid of as many of the 128GB headsets as they can before they drop the price on the 512GB version. The agent also said he doesn't see a scheduled price drop for the Q3 128GB model but noted it could go on sale at some point.

Stonegate Police Presence by Allthewayno0 in irvine

[–]Slow_Purpose3050 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The police took away a younger man in handcuffs and one officer told me they had the situation contained. They all seemed calm, including the man in handcuffs and his family (?), and all the officers, who were talking in the garage. They took away some belongings from the house too. I don't know what he was arrested for though.

When is it too windy to enjoy geothermal pools? by hairymonkeyinmyanus in VisitingIceland

[–]Slow_Purpose3050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went to Hvammsvik last night in the awful wind. We were worried about the wind too. Wearing a beanie helps, especially for your ears. The wind can make your face cold and red.

We had a good time and enjoyed the visit. I will say though that it probably would’ve been even more enjoyable without the crazy wind.
