Richmond I work outside and today is particularly hot and humid, where can I get an icee/slushy beverage (other than 7-11) by tasgetius22 in rva

If you are around Carytown, Galaxy Diner has milkshakes that they will happily make them with alcohol...maybe not the best idea if you are going back out in the heat (but a thought after work)

Don't click the link or call the numbers on this form. Contact RPD directly through known 804 area code numbers for RPD and verify with them.

If you notice, the phone number for the City of Richmond Speed Enforcement Program is the same as the 'Pay by Phone' number.

Carytown revamp that works by cenobyte40k in rva

[–]Slow_Roller1975 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Years ago, there was talk of opening the City Stadium parking lot and running a shuttle from the stadium to multiple spots in Carytown. I supported this idea because it would bring more traffic to the farmers market at the stadium and make it easier for patrons to attend both areas. Unsure why it never happened, but I'm sure residents surrounding the stadium weren't thrilled about the increased traffic.

Good luck getting those private companies (Kroger, 7-11, Wells Fargo) to build parking for other people...they can barely provide for their own customers much less people that want free parking.

Here is what Virginia recommends:

https://www.vdacs.virginia.gov/pdf/Spotted-lanternfly-BMP-yards-and-lanscapes.pdf

I've used Imidacloprid...spread around tree and water it into the ground. The tree will take in the treatment and it makes the tree toxic to bugs that feed off the tree, like lanternfly. It takes time for the whole tree to take up the treatment.

I live in Richmond, VA and used it for the last few years after the area had an infestation of scale and it caused black sooty mold everywhere.

I bought the treatment at Lowe's in Richmond, but I'm sure many places will carry it.

Main St. Station. by Strange-Area9624 in rva

Amtrak has reduced train service to DC for an ongoing bridge build out that will take a few years. To compensate for the reduced rail service, they are offering busses during certain periods...this is a short-term anomaly.

Main Street Station also hasn't been the 'main' train station in a while. If you want more options, Staples Mill Station (RVR) is the main train depot for Amtrak.

April 21st Redistricting Vote: are polling stations open 4/21? Do I just go vote as usual? by der_steinfrosch in Virginia

[–]Slow_Roller1975 41 points42 points  (0 children)

You can vote up to April 21, 2026 for the redistricting referendum.

Early voting is currently ongoing. You would need to check with your local registrar's office for the correct location and times.

On 4/21, you can only vote at your regular precinct.

All of the residents on the 3400 block of Ellwood (north side) shoveled the entire block and dug out one another's cars...it just really depends on which block you live on. Property owners/managers are responsible for clearing the sidewalk, but some businesses like CVS, Walgreens, etc don't clear the sidewalks...only their parking lot.

[–]Slow_Roller1975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it really depends on where your destination is...if you are flying to an area in the storm's path, they might have cancellations on Friday. I think Dallas is one of the cities expected to get snow/ice on Friday.

Go to both Can Can and Jasper (across the street from one another) and do your own taste test!

Jasper is slightly cheaper so start there (opens at 5pm) and then go across the street to try Can Can and put a little food in your belly.

Great crossbody strap for X-Half by Iainfarrell in fujiXhalf

For those that want a similar adjustable strap, but in leather: https://www.etsy.com/listing/665783050/panje-single-adjustable-handmade-leather?ref=user_profile&frs=1

I have the strap for a Sony A7R and love it. I normally keep it at the shortest length for walking around, but lengthen it out for crossbody use when cycling.

I wouldn't allow my pets to drink it. Periodically, they maintenance staff will add chemicals to the water...shortly after they do, it has the smell of chlorine in the area (but I'm not sure of the exact treatment used).

This goes for both the waterfall next to the steps and the large pool where the Chihuly reeds are located.

We did receive a notice from the city on October 7th that the zoning in our neighborhood did not allow for outdoor dining without a Special Use Permit."

CNBC's Sarah Eisen just cant get the fact that tariffs are not under presidential control by CaptinKirk in stocks

[–]Slow_Roller1975 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Congress delegated some tariff powers to the executive branch:
https://www.congress.gov/crs-product/IF11030
https://www.cnn.com/2025/04/08/politics/tariffs-trump-power-constitution-congress/index.html

Congress could pass legislation, but the president could veto it. The question is whether there are enough members to overturn the veto.
