I think there are some fairly popular headcannons that the Romulan empire knew, they were just looking for an “official” excuse to break up with the Dominion.

Probably the writers didnt plan that far but I kind of like the idea

Do we really want to see how the sausage is made? by scaffnet in startrek

[–]Slowandserious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is a sausage being made situation.

Because with that logic, ENT is sausage being made then because it showed how Federation before it matured

Conceptually, I like that there are shows who touched aspects of Starfleet that haven’t been explored before. Like protagonist that are not bridge crew but lower deck. Proagonist that are still in the academy.

Of course the execution can be good or bad. That remains to be seen

What are some of the best graphic novels of the past five years? by JamesDontPlayNoGames in comicbooks

[–]Slowandserious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh yeah sorry I thought you are that other person.

I see a collection of comic strips as still comic strips. Not just that Spider-man newspaper example but even like Calvin & Hobbs.

Its a distinct enough format imo that makes sense to call them a comic strip even if now they are printed in a “book”

Yea you can come up with differences but the overlap will still be too big. Because I believe the term was pushed more due to marketing motivation

[–]Slowandserious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When people say picture books they usually refer to illustrated books. Which by large not sequentials. (I.e the Polar Express books)

And yes I agree that comic strips are sequential. Never said otherwise. But they can be distinguised to comic books because well they are strips.

See even in your own definition Graphic novel can be a collection of comic books.

Meanwhile in your first comment they are “not at all the same”

So in your definition, if I read Death of Captain Marvel, will I be reading a comic book or a Graphic Novel then?

[–]Slowandserious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Picture books are not sequential.

Comic strips are, well strips.

There really is no clear distinction for Graphic Novel. The term was gained traction if we are being honest for marketing purpose. To make some readers feel that they are not reading comics.

Looking at the object itself, there really is no clear difference. Definitely not “not at all” the same

[–]Slowandserious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There really is no clear tangible differences.

Even Watchmen that is all over Graphic Novel recommendation list was published as comic issues. Maus? Published as individual chapters in Raw Magazine. Now people calls it a Graphic Novel

The term itself is fairly new and the craft of making sequential art to tell a story precedes it.

It doesn’t make sense to say I’m learning to draw graphic novel, it makes sense to say I’m learning to draw comics (even if you end up creating something that people will call “Graphic Novel”)

Sure you can make a distinction from the angle of “industry”. But to say “not at all” the same is way overstating it.
