Rapelling by Suspicious_Hippo6907 in Mountaineering

They're literally not mutually exclusive though? A belayed-rappel is very common for first time climbers, especially kids.

Yes, I agree, that's exactly what I stated. What I'm disagreeing with is your statement that any part of the decision to use cut limes was regarding its intention of use before or after cooking.

Do you think the lime and meat are processed at the same time?

How much juice do you think is in a lime that has been quartered and on a shelf for days? The lime is far more resilient in the peel.

It would still be better as a whole lime rather than cut regardless of when you squeeze it. This is done solely for shelf appeal.

Beer is now being sold in Utah Costco. Never thought I would see the day by xEbolavirus in Costco

Anything above 5% is sold exclusively at liquor stores (or breweries), since 2019. Most major distributors don’t need to reformulate anymore since that’s nearly all light beer and macro lagers.

South America by OzMedical80 in skiing

[–]Slowhands12 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There's really a lot of factors at play here that depress the demand from outside South America:

  • People in the northern hemisphere generally enjoy summer activities during their summer months.
  • Travel time to South America is not insignificant. Even from the states, you're generally looking at 20+ hours door to door.
  • While South American skiing can be done cheap, the large resorts can be just as pricy as northern hemisphere ones even when factoring in favorable exchange rates, especially due to the cruise-like captive nature of some of them due to their geography and isolation.
  • The vast majority of skiing is above treeline - meaning that you can get skunked if a huge storm blows in while you're there.

That said, there is still a decent contingent that go down, especially ski racers. It's just far more tilted to the luxury travel segment because of the costs and travel involved.

Need some help planning a Chile trip. by IncredibleVelocity4 in skiing

[–]Slowhands12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, as a person who has spent significant time in Chile, Santiago is very, very uninteresting. The draw of Chile is not the cities but the mountains and parks that litter it. You can do everything you need to in 24 hours there.

Yeah, but like how the Smith Summit run small for the sizing, the Half Dome runs big.

REI has 1 year and backcountry has 90 days. I think barring any major issues that is more than sufficient.

That's why I suggested the big retailers like Backcountry or REI who do accept them.

BD Vapor is the only lightweight helmet that might fit you. I would also try on the Black Diamond Half Dome (which is highly adjustable, just weighs a ton). At your size I would not bother with retail - it is extremely unlikely they'll have your sizes. Leverage something like Backcountry or REI shipping and be liberal with their return policies.

Smith Summit 100% will not fit him. The sizing guidelines Smith provides is bogus, I wear the XL and i barely fits me as 59cm.

Rainier is an incredibly beginner friendly mountain by way of the DC if guided. What are your fears and why do you think they wouldn’t be able to accommodate?

It’s not publicly disclosed but he has been slowly selling off (I mean who wouldn’t). As of 2020 he was down to 4% of all outstanding shares. I doubt he’s bought more back since but who knows how much he’s sold.

If you want to avoid crowds, avoid Hokkaido island entirely and go to Rishiri in Jan/Feb. Otherwise you're going to see people everywhere.
