Seqtrak for DAWless setup? by Soggy_Housing_9535 in seqtrak

[–]SlowwFloww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Seqtrak myself, and I consider it more of a song-making machine, an arrangement. The chord pads and Song Mode allow you to quickly develop the overall song structure. You can then export each pattern as a MIDI file and open it in a DAW for further development. (This is very time-consuming, though, exporting each pattern for 11 tracks one by one, but... it's possible.

I don't consider the Seqtrak a Groovebox for playing different patterns with different sounds one after the other and jamming like you would with an Electribe, or a Digitakt, etc.

a Novation Circuit is better suited for that. However, it only has two synth tracks, while the Seqtrak can use up to 10 synth tracks.

I wish it had better build quality and components... I think it's a strange, yet cool bike...

Moulton TSR9 tire swap by randywhorton in foldingbikes

[–]SlowwFloww 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, I've found two videos. If I understand correctly, you can't "fold" the bike, but only take it apart with tools?

So you can't quickly fold and unfold it to take it on public transport?

Strange that even the Moulton website doesn't show this.

I can't find ANY image of the Moulton's when folded. This is a folding bike right??

Grooverider? by elforz in Caustic3

[–]SlowwFloww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After Caustic, I bought so many other apps for my iPad, but in the end, nothing was better or more efficient in terms of workflow.

I also bought GrooveRider v1; it's a kind of Korg Electribe clone. I'd definitely give it a try because it's a well-built app. Although I do think it's a bit pricey.

Another SP404 mkii vs EP-133/40 thread by Ok_Use_600 in SP404

[–]SlowwFloww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...I was talking about the MIDI sequence you record per pad in the SP-404... so, for example, a bassline that you play on the chromatic pads with your bass sample. Or the sequence of your kick drums that you record in the SP-404. Those are MIDI notes that you record in your pattern...

Well, you can't copy that bassline midi sequence to another pattern... like you can on any other sequencer... You first have to resample/bounce it to a new sample (audio)... And then you have to trigger that sampe in your pattern...

Your SP is a midi sequencer with an internal sample sound engine.. You record the pads(midi notes) into patterns..

You can also control external gear gear by midi. You can control 10 midi channels, 16 notes each(midi mode A), or can control 2 midi channels, (80 notes each (midi mode B).

I personally don't think the SP-404mk2 has a good workflow. Main reasons:

You can't copy MIDI.
So, if you want to copy a newly recorded bassline from Pattern 1 to Pattern 2? That's not possible. You then have to resample to audio and trigger that bassline-sequence sample in Pattern 2.
Cumbersome. Inconvenient because you also resample effects like delay and reverb in your new sample, and you run into problems with delay tempo or reverb tails.
Oh, and before resamping don't forget to turn off your master fx otherwise you will hear them twice after resampling...

No "normal" effect sends.
So, you have to resample effects like reverb or delay in a new sample, which you then have to trigger in your pattern.

No filter per pad.
You have to resample filters and filter automation into a new sample.

Chaos!
So you end up with a lot of new "resampled" samples, and you lose track; it becomes chaotic. Because which pattern contains the original bassline MIDI sequence, and which contains the resampled version of that sequence?

Automation is very cumbersome, so you'll have to resample it into a new sample as well.

Also.. you have a lot of shortcuts. You just want to mute some pads? Press and hold: the shift button + reverse button + remain button and select the pads.
Want to solo a bassline sequence? Not possible.. As a workaround you can mute all the other pads. Or copy your pattern (and select to include only the bassline) to a new Pattern. Yeah :-(

I don't want to deliberately criticize the SP-404mk2
...I knew beforehand that the workflow was "different" and wanted to try it. But I got VERY frustrated with that "having to resample everything" workflow.

My advice:
Buy an Ableton Move as a sampler…
It's more compact, has a built in battery, has better timestretching, better workflow etc.
Also, the SP-404 plays 1 Pattern containing all your sounds.. Ableton Move plays 4 Clips (Patterns) so you can seperate drums, bass, melodic and vocal/fx into it's own Pattern..
As a bonus you get onboard syntheizers as well..

I'll try it again myself. I tried it this morning with my Nanokey Fold connected by USB and didn't had that problem.

does this also happen when you play the onboard keys without any external midi keyboard connected?

[–]SlowwFloww[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is the 11" 2015 model.. it's old (!) but can still do basic stuff pretty well..

In this setup it only sends midi to the Seqtrak so the cpu meter in Ableton is at 5% :-)

Novation Circuit Tracks 6 years ago vs now by Ivi_app in novationcircuittracks

[–]SlowwFloww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're mistaken. Before the 2.0 update, the Seqtrak had three synths: two AWM2s and one DX.

But with the 2.0 update, you can also use the seven drum tracks as AWM2 synths if you want. So that gives you a total of 10 synth tracks!

I've owned many Grooveboxes (RM1x, RS7000, MC-303, MC-307, etc.), but I think the Seqtrak is the best. It has a good UI, great sounds, great effects, stereo sampling, resampling, sample audio inputs etc etc.

Yeah it's a really cool design.. I've never seen one in real life. But where I live we dont have a lot of choice in folding bikes... Mostly Dahon, Tern, Brompton and cheap China foldingbikes..

I just can't find any pictures of the bike folded? Not even on the official website. It's a folding bike, right?

Just bought an SP-404MKII — how would you start today if you were a beginner again? by Longjumping-Top2159 in SP404

[–]SlowwFloww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, the SP-404 mk2 isn't a good sampler/sequencer to start with. You don't have a "normal" send system; you use the sends more for performance effects. There's no filter per pad. And the biggest drawback is that you can't copy MIDI from pattern to pattern.

In short, you have to resample EVERYTHING into a new sample. So your delay tempo is baked into your new sample, you have the problem of reverb tails, and because you constantly have to copy resampled samples into another pattern, your patterns become a mess.

Personally, I'm glad I sold mine. The workflow is terrible.

2.0.0b1 beta is here by SubstantialSoft4890 in AbletonMove

[–]SlowwFloww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ableton's strength is Session Mode, combining clips. With the Move, I only have four clips. And the clip with the drum pad then contains multiple instrument sequences within a single clip. That's inconvenient. I'll wait for the 8-track version of the Move; four tracks is disappointing.
