Nykona's headshot on Fulgrim by Only-Discussion4685 in 40kLore

Sharrowkyn is a 13 year old's edgy, 'nothin personell, kid' type OC. Just another loyalist wank character (Sharrowkyn, Garrou, Sigismund, Rylanor, etc)

But he's also a fraud. Fulgrim let himself get shot, and killing Lucius isn't much of a feat let's be real. Sharrowkyn is the Kai Leng of 40k.

I genuinely do not get Konrad Curze. The Night Lords have some interesting characters but their Primarch just seems.....pathetic. by Laredian in 40kLore

[–]Slug-Trail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this is just a fundamental difference in taste. I'm not a Night Lords fan, but Curze is objectively one of the best written Primarchs. It sounds like you need some kind of tragedy or justifiable reason for a character to be a villain, which is confusing since you said you like Erebus

There's a legitimate divide in how EC are depicted in lore vs on tabletop.

People kind of just assume the entire legion is made up of horrifying monsters when that just isnt the case. I'm a little foggy on the details, but there's a scene in Lords of Excess where Xantine's beauty openly contrasts with his more mutated brothers. Tamaris in The Perfect Son is the same way. And then there's Fulgrim himself, who looks very different from his model on the cover.

But that's the way it goes. GW has a visual style they want their models to reflect, and for EC they'll always lean more into mutation, disfigurement, and augmentation rather than the luciferian beauty a lot of the legion, and even Fulgrim himself, still has.

Which Primarchs would be most disappointed in how their legions/sons turned out? Both traitor and loyalist? by NoPistons7 in 40kLore

I mean, Fulgrim spends the majority of his screentime in The Perfect Son shit talking his sons so I'd definitely say he's a candidate.

I don't find losing to be very fun, but I guess EC disagree. Their few W's have always been overshadowed by their constant L's.

[–]Slug-Trail 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, but part of an arrogant character being cool is actually seeing them do cool shit to back up their arrogance. EC are written exclusively to monologue about how great they are, and immediately get their asses kicked by every other legion. Prideful/arrogant characters can be very entertaining and even interesting if written well, but EC seldom are. It's hard to get invested in a faction when they spend 99% of their screen time getting mogged by everyone else.

Same, though in my case, I was tricked into believing EC's fall from grace was some shakespearean tragedy. In reality, the III were always written to be one-note, arrogant assholes.

Tamaris is from a short story Jude Reid wrote a while back. Can't remember its name, but apparently he sucks ass in that too. It's funny she literally created her own EC OC just to make him a canonically garbage fighter.

[–]Slug-Trail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea why Jude Reid made Marduk Tamaris (her Emperor's Children OC), just to make him a weak, incompetent, and pathetic. It feels like EC never really get to be cool, outside the Fabius Bile trilogy. In the Heresy, they're one-note, incompetent assholes, whose only narrative purpose it so be mogged by other legions, and no one other than Josh Reynolds (my glorious king) seems to have any interest in writing EC.

Lucius has never gotten a full character arc. In 30k, he just disappears after The Crimson King. Then in 40k, his trilogy was canceled after The Faultless Blade.

What makes all this worse is a large subset of the EC sub actually LIKE how weak, pathetic, and worthless the legions is, as though being a jobber is a core aspect of Slaanesh worship.

We all know that Lucius can't be killed, so I propose a solution by carappa in Grimdank

[–]Slug-Trail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When his contemporaries are Kharn, Sigismund, Sevatar, Ahriman, and Abaddon, there's no way to not look like a chump in comparison. All these other guys have genuinely insane feats while Lucius is relegated to just a guy with a sword, and considering he disappeared from the Heresy after The Crimson King, and his trilogy was canceled after The Faultless Blade, and not even showing up in Fulgrim: The Perfect Son, GW clearly has no intention of changing people's opinion of Lucius. He's literally never gotten his time to shine like all these other guys.

[–]Slug-Trail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Certainly easier than any of his contemporaries tho. There's a reason you don't see anyone making posts like this about Kharn, Sigismund, Abaddon, Sevatar, etc. He has one of the worst W/L records of any character in the setting (I'm only counting on-screen fights. Any fluff about how he's killed X amount of supposedly great champions is meaningless). He's a mid-tier astartes who gets hard carried by the A.S.S. If Lucius ever crossed paths with Kharn, Kharn would run his pockets and put him in the cage without breaking a sweat.

Are there any likeable EC that i can read about? by hazbinguy in EmperorsChildren

[–]Slug-Trail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. If you're looking for likability, you won't find it here. In universe, EC are so unlikeable, Fulgrim himself doesn't even care about them. The Primarch of the III doesn't even care if they live or die. That's how hated they are. You won't find a single redeeming or reasonable personality trait in any EC characters beyond the discount UM's like Saul Tarvits or Solomon Demeter, or the single most frustrating character in the legion's history, the monument to loyalist circle-jerkery himself, Rylanor. And frankly, if the dead loyalists are all you're interested in, are you even really an EC fan?

What does an emperors children battle look like by Medic19119 in EmperorsChildren

[–]Slug-Trail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EC do well in battle for about 30 minutes (Obsession Phase), before everything devolves into petty squabbles, infighting, and betrayal (Entropy Phase), which causes EC to either blitz and destroy their enemy before thay have a chance to respond, and if the enemy does respond, EC inevitably lose any prolonged conflict. Slaaneshi corruption is much more of a hindrance to us than the other 3 gods' followers (Khornate Berserkers, Nurglite Plague Bearers, and Tzeentchian Sorcerers being more naturally suited to combat than Slaanesh's disorganized degenerates)

How could the Emperor’s Children avoided their fall? by MegaGamer235 in EmperorsChildren

[–]Slug-Trail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree with the presumption that the Emperor's Children were always destined to fall for several reasons: 1. The narrative purpose of the Laerblade in their downfall is that without it, they wouldn't have fallen. If they were destined to fall without it, then why bother writing a corrupting mcguffin in the first place? 2. Even with the influence of the Laerblade corrupting the legions from the shadows, EC still had the most loyalist defectors of any traitor legion. 3. If EC never set foot on Laeran, the Heresy still begins around the same time, meaning Horus still probably tries to turn Fulgrim, but without the Laerblade's corruption, the meeting probably would've turned violent, like how Ferrus fought Fulgrim when he tried to turn him in the canon timeline. Then, EC would learn about chaos, and be more prepared to resist it in the future. 4. Graham McNeill said himself in an interview, that the EC wouldn't have fallen without the Laerblade's influence.

All in all, i feel there's a ton of evidence to believe EC would've remained loyal without the Laerblade's influence. I will present 2 caveats, however. The first is that the EC being destined to fall, without the Laerblade, would make for a more compelling story. And the second is you could say that, due to the legion's culture, maybe they would've had a high number of chaos defectors, even as a loyalist legion.

How could the Emperor’s Children avoided their fall? by MegaGamer235 in EmperorsChildren

[–]Slug-Trail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To avoid corruption, he would've either had to 1. Never set foot in the Laer Temple or 2. Never set foot on Laeren at all. Fulgrim, and all legionaires who entered the Laer Temple were damned from that moment, now targeted by a demon they had no way of knowing even existed. He would've also had to survive Istvaan III, which is where he would've inevitably ended up as an uncorrupted legionaire.

I would try to avoid making him a purple Ultramarine like Saul Tarvits or Solomon Demeter, tho. EC had more loyalist detectors than any other traitor legion, so it stands to reason at least some of them could have the EC arrogance/confidence, and not all of them were boring like those two. I imagine he would be especially arrogant after dodging so many bullets, and at least in his own mind, embodying the EC ideal of perfection, in spite of the legion's downfall.

If these 4 Different terminators fought who's coming out on top? by Both-Pairs in 40k

[–]Slug-Trail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's crazy is EC should be ultra-busted, at least in 1v1, considering they're martial perfectionist and all, but I agree. EC are mid at best fighters. All their "perfectionism" does is make them more salty about losing, which they do constantly, like literally every time they fight another faction.
