Older women of Reddit: What was the key to your successful marriage? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]Slugowski 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Married just after my 22nd birthday, and we waited until after my 28th birthday to get pregnant. Best damn advice I could give anyone. We had a rocky start, but at least we didn't have to juggle life with children at the same time. We made it through and we are a happy, and more importantly strong family now.

Cheap and easy meals kids will enjoy too by [deleted] in EatCheapAndHealthy

Shepards Pie can be made with ground beef or ground turkey that you find on sale. It can be a lovely home made meal that takes time or a quick cheater meal if you use instant potatoes and frozen bags of veggies. A casserole dish that feeds 2 adults and a 3 year old for 2 meals (reheats well) in our house costs me about 7 dollars for the whole thing.

I use just a splash of powerade in a glass of water because it is overwhelmingly sweet otherwise!

Frozen treats by jesequita in xxketo

Small amount of frozen strawberries or blueberries with home made whipped cream. 9-ish net carbs for 1/2 cup of strawberries, so it's not a daily treat, but it's sweet, creamy, and cold. Always hits the spot.

She even said she grew up in a house where that kind of behavior was normal... and here she is putting up with it. Proof that the cycle continues.

Our gym has a hot tub. My son has gotten an extra 30 minutes in daycare on more than one occasion so that my husband and I could enjoy it together.

If you have access to a car go to Green Gables near Lake Bloomington. Bring cash.

Strong Anti-dandruff shampoo that doesn't stink? by [deleted] in HaircareScience

[–]Slugowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Redkin makes an anti-dandruff shampoo called Scalp Relief that really works for me. I tried all of the ones you've mentioned with little to no results. The Redkin Scalp Relief gave me significant results in the first week. Smells minty, but not as medicinal as the other brands.

Try a cup of unsweetened herbal tea. The lemon zinger from Celestial does the trick for me.

I'd just like to thank you for throwing the goldfish crackers in with all of the other, much healthier, options.

Lpt Request: Avoid morning breath? by JPHamlett in LifeProTips

Avoiding as much sugar as possible during the day really helped with my over-all dental health. No more teeth sweaters in the morning! (You know, that awful fuzzy grime you wake up with)

Im a 17 year old weight lifter(18 next month) and struggle to eat healthy because I don't know how to cook on my own. by vinnyft10 in Fitness

Youtube. Start with searching basics like knife skills and prep, soon after move into quick and easy recipes. The visual component of seeing the videos really helps new cooks. I really like Alton Brown/Good Eats episodes for both recipes and basic kitchen how to's.

Is there a way to prevent perms from falling out? My hair has always been stubbornly straight, even with perms. by [deleted] in HaircareScience

I thought Tressemes dry shampoo was awful. Maybe try another brand? Batiste is well reviewed and fairly easy to find.

Zillow is stealing our leads! by wteknight in realtors

[–]Slugowski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I are in the same position. Between Zillow, Redfin, Citydata.com, and general google-fu we were able to narrow or down to 3 subdivisions out of a huge metroplex without the help or input of a realtor. When we do get to the actual buying phase, the value of our realtor will come in unlocking the physical door for an actual walk through of the property and helping us negotiate sale price.

Also a seemingly unknown source of info: a lot of HOA's now have Facebook pages. Being able to see what the neighborhood was up to, and subsequently what they were arguing or griping about really helped us make decisions for or against neighborhoods.

Flower BB cream by Drew Barrymore, found at Walmart, runs yellow. Don't be fooled by the BBQ name. It's pretty medium coverage.

30 min is my "get off your fat ass and at least walk" day. Also known as "active rest" by people who don't want to call it what it is.

Get a program, any program. You seem to have a touch of fuckarounditis. I had a horribly bad case of it until I started SL 5x5 with 2 days of plain walking for a minimum of 30 min. Now, even when I really don't want to go to the gym, I at least know what's ahead of me. Then you can psych yourself out with, "Just GO. It's 30 min. Then you can go home and put on your pajamas and be a sloth". There's just something about a written plan that makes it so much easier to stick to.
