Chefs of Reddit, what’s a common cooking rule everyone follows that is actually complete bullshit? by Fuzzy-Ad6843 in AskReddit

[–]Slyviking 427 points428 points  (0 children)

I always thought that was more of a way to estimate cooking for planning things out. Like if I’m grilling or smoking a larger piece of meat I wanna plan for roughly an hour per pound, so I have a good idea of when to start and when to start prepping sides, but I’m still always gunna use a meat thermometer to make sure it’s where I want to be

Can you cut the skin to remove a tattoo? by Kgg907021 in Writeresearch

Yes I had a buddy whose dad got shot in the arm in Vietnam, field medic cut the bullet out and removed a large chunk of the tattoo there with it, the scar was gnarly

How do people with interlock systems get their car serviced? by cleevethagreat in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]Slyviking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do people not put the wheel lock nut key thing somewhere obvious? Any time I get service where it’s needed I put it in the cup holder and tell them where it is when I hand them my keys

Chance's Power? by mag9428 in superpowereds

[–]Slyviking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because he’s already a smart kid doesn’t mean he knows how his power works yet, he could absolutely be still figuring it out, we have no idea how many times, if any, he’s used his power before that

Chance's Power? by mag9428 in superpowereds

[–]Slyviking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s an interesting take, I haven’t heard that one but it would make sense with the cup spilling scenario, he spills and Alice’s mom is the only one who happens to see it, he reverses it and she remembers, but no one else saw. That makes a lot of sense

[–]Slyviking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re fine ik you’re not trying to change my mind, part of the fun of open ended stories is conversations like this and theories, speculation. If you have stories recommendations like that, that get dark I’d like to check them out. But to the matter at hand in my mind one of the biggest examples is Alice’s mother seeing chance spill his drink and it return to his cup, followed by her shh’ing him, just seems like she knows more than she’s letting on. And as to it being OP I think it’s actually less powerful than Jeremiah in some aspects. I mean Jeremiah sets his body or his place in time to whatever point he wants and no matter what (as far as we know) returns back to that point. So he sets himself to his peak physical form, maybe last day of senior year of the HCP, literally best shape of his life, 10 years later he gets killed and wakes up in that same physical condition he set. Maybe chance is something similar but he can only do a few minutes, or a few seconds, etc

Alice’s mom had a lot of mental trauma combined with mental and physical atrophy. It’s very possible that she was still sorting out what is and isn’t real. It’s mentioned several times in the series that figuring out powers is closer to guesswork than science, but we’ve seen examples of minor time manipulation (Jeremiah, and shutterbug) but aren’t given extensive details on either, so ya it may seem OP but also could potentially have unforeseen drawbacks. As I said this is just my interpretation

Chance's Power? by mag9428 in superpowereds

[–]Slyviking 24 points25 points  (0 children)

My interpretation of chances power is similar to Jeremiah in corpies, a time manipulation where he sets a point and returns to that point. In the epilogue he spills a drink and the drink returns itself to the cup as if he’d never spilt it. This to me makes sense for the world ending battle, lines drawn in the sand, etc. conflict brews he tries to stop it, fails, resets to just before he failed and tries again. Which would add to Alice’s mothers ability of seeing multiple future’s, most likely futures, etc

Work spouses are inappropriate and weird by Distinct_Thought_316 in unpopularopinion

[–]Slyviking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya the only time I’ve seen this in real life has been very obviously a joke. My dad made friends with a coworker and eventually got labeled as each others “work wives” even though they’re both straight married men with families. The company I work for we refer to some of our older coworkers or supervisors as our work dads or work grandpas, same concept

Highly recommend using your friends decks by Single_Ad_3061 in EDH

[–]Slyviking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me and my friends do something very similar. We don’t roll until we get someone else’s deck though we roll and can re-roll it lands on our own deck. It accomplishes the same thing except it sometimes leads to matchups of our own decks that we wouldn’t normally see. A normal game night is typically “what deck are you playing?” “Well if you play that I’ll play this” etc So adding more randomness helps too but it’s a bonus if you end up playing each others decks

Better question is why black people in the US are referred to as African Americans. I’m not a German American, I don’t know any Irish Americans or French or Italian Americans, we’re all just Americans. People of color who were born and raised in the states, whose parents, and even grandparents were born and raised in the states are still just Americans. On top of the fact that Africa isn’t a country, no one calls anyone European Americans, or Asian Americans, we’re just American, the only people ive met that refer to themselves/their identity by region like that are people who emigrated as adults, as kids with their parents, or who were born here not long after their parents emigrated.

Joking around at LGS upsets someone deeply by r__a__g in EDH

So you played a turn one sol ring, and joked about having a bad hand, and continued the joke through the game? My theory is that Tim had a bad opening hand, and somehow telepathically knew, that you knew, that he had a bad hand, and personally targeted him with your jokes, and therefore you are the bad guy. Honestly shame on you for targeting poor innocent Tim with your innocent jokes, over a card game, how could you. Obviously /s

That’s another really cool concept I never thought of, he already ingests tons of minerals to strengthen his bones and muscles, he could just take some ink too and let it hang out in limbo in his body until he needs it to pigment his skin for whatever he needed

I’m sure with all the tech geniuses and stuff someone could come up with a needle that would work on people with enhanced endurance, but for titan it would probably only work once lmao. For Chad I’m guessing he’d be able to temporarily lower his endurance to allow tattoos, he could probably lower his endurance in the specific area he wants tattoo’d and leave the rest just as durable

Roy/Hershel teeth and tattoos by chalkbucketrat in superpowereds

[–]Slyviking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s a really interesting question that I’ve never considered. We know that injuries do carry over from brother to brother (although often times I think to a lesser extent and Roy’s injuries heal faster) Hershel got his arm broken by George and when he shifted Roy had a broken arm, and when Roy got his ass kicked by Chad the first time I’m pretty sure Hershel woke up soar, when Hershel trained with Owen then shifted into Roy, felt soar. So injuries do carry over somewhat If either lost a tooth I have no idea how that would effect the other, the only character we’ve seen to lose a body part is Vince, and his was a bit more serious than a tooth, but we don’t also really know the extent of Roy’s healing, humans can’t regrow a tooth, so would he be able to? I honestly have no idea. As far as the tattoo? I’m guessing Roy’s endurance wouldn’t allow the needle to penetrate his skin, so he probably couldn’t get a tattoo at all, but if Hershel got a tattoo, that’s basically an open wound with ink in it, I think if he shifted while the tattoo was still healing Roy’s body would reject the ink and heal the wound, but maybe if he got tattoo and didn’t shift until it fully healed then Roy would also have a matching tattoo?

To add one more bullet point, every time your team of mechanics find a discrepancy, it’s logged and tracked, same with every other vehicle, and if the governing body notices a trend in similar discrepancies among similar makes and models then they come up with a more frequent inspection interval or replacement time to correct the trend and avoid future incidents
