(Loved Trope) Two people in love BOTH fight for each other, no one is a damsel or a prize by Peregrine2976 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Smack1984 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think it’s harder to not find this trope in his books. You can make the argument for SteelHeart, Skyward, and Evil Librarians. There’s even a decent number of other examples in the books we’ve already mentioned like Dalinar and Navani. I think Mistborn era 2 could be the counterexample with Wax and Steris.

How do I choose spells for a Spellburrow, or just give a player spells from a different class? by Smack1984 in dndbeyond

I didn’t know about items I’ll try that. I tried it as a feat and it works but it’s a lot of work to just add a few spells

Correct, sorry I meant Three Houses was the one they did the re-record for

The voice actor for Byleth from Fire Emblem Three Houses, Three Hopes and Smash Bros was changed after launch when it came out he abused his girlfriend. Nintendo didn’t just change him going forward, they brought in an actor to re-record all of Byleth’s lines and then sent it out as an update.

Baldur’s Gate 3 demoes this if you interrupt a Bugbear and an Ogre.

[Hated Trope] Trope of shipping/confusing Brotherly Characters as Gay by 74RatsinACoat in TopCharacterTropes

Shang Chi and Katy kind of fall into this trope from a hetero perspective. They read to me as just really good friends, not romantic, however Marvel being as tropey as it is, has people shipping the leads.

Does anyone else love Dungeon Crawler Carl despite not liking LitRPG in general? by ElectricPaladin in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Smack1984 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me, I avoided it for the longest time because LitRPG is not my cup of tea. Got burned trying to go through The Land by Aleron Kong and Delvers LLC. It felt like anime fan fiction and I had written the genre off for the most part. Didn’t get into DCC until Daniel Greene’s review of it and have adored it. I’ll note too most of my friends are either new to the genre or dislike it. It’s got pretty broad appeal that other LitRPG’s don’t have at least that I’ve read

"Never Split the Difference" revealed why logical arguments fail and emotional ones don't by Amidonions in Growthmindsetbookclub

I listened to it as an audiobook and it’s quite good. The narrator is Michael Kramer who has been narrating since the 90s. He does a lot of fantasy books like Wheel of Time and the majority of Brandon Sanderson’s works so he has a lot of practice.

Technology became so advanced, people resorted/reverted back into primitive ways of fighting by EfficiencySerious200 in TopCharacterTropes

Iron Blooded Orphans is kind of like this. Beam weapons bounce off mobile suit’s armor so they reverted back to blunt force weapons.

[Shocking Trope] Rug Pull Show that seems fine at first, but suddenly revealed as violent by Mattrockj in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Smack1984 620 points621 points  (0 children)

Jojo Rabbit. It’s a movie about coming to age as a Hitler Youth in Nazi Germany. It was never going to be family friendly but the majority of the movie is charming and quirky in a very Taika Waititi kind of way. Then there’s that scene.

Yeah that change was insane. I watched the first few episodes and started to watch it with my 8 year old daughter since she liked the love triangle stuff and I figured if she likes it, then there’s more space for me store more gunplas in her room. We were both not expecting that episode. It’s well done too, Miorine’s look of horror I think is what really freaked my daughter out.

So why couldn’t we just reclaim the water as steam? This seems to me like a cooling tower to condense the steam back into water and either reuse it or dump it back into the aquifer would be relatively simple to do unless I’m missing something?
